Mertle gotta be the worst bully ever. Like remember that scene in the second movie where all the girls start talking about how their moms will help them make costumes and stuff and Mertle keeps saying Lilo is gonna fail because her mom died?? Like even the other bullies tell her to chill down!
Yeah, they all knew to chill, but she kept crossing that line. You don’t just bluntly mention someone’s dead mom like that! That’s a one way ticket to a world of pain.
Literally in one episodes of the series, the hula class is going to be doing family pictures. And even though Mertle has a single mom, she makes fun of Lilo and says her photo is gonna be the worst cuz she won’t have either of her parents in it. She literally mocked Lilo for being an orphan and tried to make that seem like an embarrassing flaw of hers
Pretty sure Myrtle is just seeing Lilo as an easy target since her parents are gone. She's also trying to make up for the fact that her dad left her own family.
@@Skullhawk13 last time she was seen I believe was Leroy and Stitch though she doesn't appear in the anime sequel series but tbf only a handful of characters return in that and most were not the human characters (except Lilo for one episode)
What's worse is that she's not just normal mean girl but most likely a girl raised on prejudice due to her family. Her family is known for running small local businesses into the ground and she doesn't take much care into the actual traditions that she's been put in (The second movie shows this)
Plus her family ran one of those big box places that run mom and pop/ indie stores out. She's also part of a family that doesn't really care for the Hawaiian people or their culture instead just seeing it as a gimic. Also, she brought Lilo's dead mom into a fight you don't cross that line!
Myrtle's mother at least is more ignorant than intentionally hateful and racist. There's several scenes during the TV series where Myrtle's mother at least *tries* to be polite and kind to Lilo and the locals, and even scolds Myrtle for bullying Lilo. Which does raise the question of how bad Myrtle's father must be, given how Myrtle is clearly mimicking _someone_ who is deliberately hateful, rather than being a bigot from blind ignorance and entitlement.
If I was Nani and my little sister's teacher told me that she got in trouble for beating up a girl who made fun of our *DEAD* mother of course I would be pissed... That the girl was not punished too
Let's not forget. She likely takes after her Dad, who apparently abandoned the family and their business if he didn't die like Lilo's parents. So yeah, maybe her garbage personality is all he gave her along with possibly debt if he left due to money issues.
Didn't her family turn out to be one of them stores that run local business into the ground by such great deals? From the second movie her dance was deals from her family's store.
….Oh dang. I need to go back and watch that part with subtitles (auditory processing disorder, I don’t catch a lot of words sometimes) to see what she says. But that would explain the teacher’s reaction😮😅
@@christinedge7627 It is...all of it is about her family's store. Lilo deserved to win that competition, hers was about their own island's history (albeit a myth) and about how love is more powerful than anything else including death. Myrtle was just an ad, Lilo had a better and more beautiful idea and dance.
@@carlenecolson7204 well Mertle didn't win. Lilo didn't win because she didn't dance in the competition. I think the girl who did the pineapple dance won.
When I first saw the movie. I thought she was just mean. Because Lilo bit her. But looking back. She was mean always. Like Princess Morbucks from the Powerpuff Girls. People don't spoiled your kids too much. Since everyone in the class is mean to Lilo. She should go to a different class with more friends and less jerks
The scene that made me hate that girl was when Lilo tried to play with the girls and they made fun of her homemade doll. Myrtle denied Lilo a chance at comradery even when Lilo was trying to be civil, just because she was poor and couldn’t afford a nicer doll, let alone that she was happy with her homemade one for sentimental reasons
@@oswaldfriedman7116 That's very creative of her. Other girls would have beg for a doll. Sometimes making things is better than getting at a store. I Sometimes make my own costumes and they turned out great
This reminds me of the one time someone on twitter said lilo was a horrible character for attacking mertle. Everyone on twtter just rallied against them, to the point they had to go private
People also found out that same person was racist based on their Tumblr posts too. So this person didn't just have an unpopular take. They were kinda vile.
Lilo came to class late, soaking wet and went on about feeding a fish the right sandwich because it controls the weather. And then jumps myrtle after being called crazy, even though that is a little weird. I feel like Any kid would’ve said that. Myrtle being cold towards lilo after all that made sense. I know she’s been through a tragedy, but you can’t just punch someone’s lights out for calling you a name. There’s no way lilo would’ve gotten away with that. However, that is only for the first movie. After that myrtles whole existence is being an unlikable brat to Lilo at every turn with her teacher as the enabler. I am very annoyed that not once in the series, they never got to bury the hatchet and make amends.
@@snowbird1381 wasn't it implied that Myrtle had been bullying Lilo for a while before that? At least from what I remember. Because if that's the case, then while still not being right, it's at least more understandable why she would react that way
My only tear I shed for Mertle was during the second time around, she held such longing for her pet that she fell hook line and sinker for the headset, all that trust for nothing Like hamsterveil genuinely didn’t feel the slightest bit of remorse for it either he just genuinely was blinded by “let’s catch some Pokémon today” and off he went.
I never liked Mertle and looking back to her character, she literally does remind me of my cousin who would bully me for being 'weird' (yep, one of the reasons why she bullies Lilo) and also spoiled af.
I’m still waiting for an *All Grown Up* Lilo&Stitch adventures. I would def had liked to see Mertle as an “evil” henchman of Hamsterviel’s and none of that “oh this has gone too far let me tweak the plans so they fail and somewhat save the day but be blasé about it evil” I want “I’m bout to take this rodent’s job and do better at it and take over the United Galactic Federation evil” 😈😈😈😈😈 like Tammy from Rick&Morty lolllll
Yeah, that'd be cool! 👍🏻 I'd love to see more of Gantu and that yellow alien dude that just made sandwiches all the time! He's the best character! 😅🤣👌🏻
Exactly, I couldn't stand the teacher. Can't tell if he's worse than Mertle herself. Probably because he's an adult seeing what really goes down yet doesn't hold Mertle accountable for anything nor make an effort to stop the bullying. He has time to call Nani on Lilo yet doesn't bother to call Mertel's mom & tell her she needs to put her daughter in her place because he's not tolerating disrespect. Like, dude, grow a pair and learn to do your job right. I know it's just a cartoon but so many teachers are like him in the real world, it's tiring. They ironically preach about anti-bullying during anti-bully week with posters or something , yet they stay quiet when they see the actual bullying happen right in their face. Of course, the only time they react is if the victim retaliates. It's pathetic and those types of teachers shouldn't be teachers to begin with.
Mertle is like a spawn of Satan. She literally ran her mouth and began to mock Lilo’s dead mother without any remorse. I would’ve hoped she felt bad for doing that, but after that remark, Mertle became an even worse bully towards Lilo
I remember this episode, it had the best line i ever heard after a successful job interview from Mertle: "Fine, I will work for you. But i don't work on holidays, weekends, at night or when i just don't want to"
I felt so bad for Lilo her parents died and she’s being raised by a older sister that’s not taking care of her and then she has this bully that is actively trying to sabotage her every chance she gets
I kinda don't like how they turned her into an actual full on bully after the first movie. In the first movie she was just a normal kid who didn't understand Lilo's strange behaviors and didn't like her because she had gotten bit by her. in other movies and the series she was an evil jerk hell bent on ruining Lilo's life. Thats not what her character originally was though, she was still kind of a bully but due to misunderstanding more than intent.
i agree with you there. they really took away the nuance of all the characters for the sake of cartoon gags. they straight up made Gantu an evil henchman instead of a zealous arrogant cop (same thing though right? jk jk) and generally took a lot of the heart that the original movie had. god why did they make a BABY evil?
It's amazing how you can tell at a glance which of them were scenes from the movie and which of them were scenes from the TV show made by a team of Korean animators who ate nothing but rice and gruel.
It would be funny to see adult Myrtle become an evil henchman for Hamsterwiel. Lilo is already sort of an ambassador/official caretaker of the experiments, so it would make sense as Myrtle's ultimate life goal seems to be to torment Lilo. I'm guessing she's jealous or insecure about Lilo being more creative than her and also being prettier or "more Hawaiian" than her (note how Lilo always shows herself more in-touch with Hawaiian legend and culture, and how she's he spitting image of Nani and her mother who were considered pretty). Bullying Lilo gives Myrtle leverage and popularity in a place where she might not fit in otherwise, and I don't think she'd abandon that anytime soon with how well it's been working out for her.
It’s really saddening that Lilo generally tries to get along with her bully, despite that she thinks she’s better than her. In the first movie, she does call her “a friend” before apologising for her violence. I also remember one episode which involves her dreams and that Myrtle was acting very nice towards her, before the experiment turned her back into her toxic self.
Because when you have no friends and are lonely you don't want to admit it and it's easier to say the girls who only went along but didn't actively do it on their own were her friends
those are called fake friends. They r just friends with them due to popularity and status. That’s all it is. I bet u if Mertle had a low status like Lilo then she wouldn’t be where she is now
If Mertle's father never comes back to see her and her mother again, she continues to be a spoiled selfish bully and brat and doesn't want to turn good/be redeemed.
It’s a shame that Mertle does not get much consequences for her bullying throughout the series. And each time there is conflict, LIlo is always the one in trouble like literally no one puts her in her place not even the teacher who he knows Mertle is a bully and yet he doesn’t do crap. I’ve seen a lot of bully characters on shows that even if they are bullies some can even be empathetic, like they are not bullies all the time, but she is the worst bully in the show I’ve ever seen. And it seems like no matter what episode she never learns anything she still stays her same bully self.
Everytime I rewatch the first movie I always think "Damn lilo could really a big brother who's there for her." I know such a character would not be good for the film as it is, but still. I'm the oldest of us 4 sons in my family and it really hurts seeing lilo so sad I the beginning. The scene where she throes her handmade doll away, but few moments later returns, hugs her and walks home alone just hits me Everytime because I know how that feels. I never had a big brother, but I can be the best big brother to others
In my opinion she didn’t deserve forgiveness or deserved to be saved from mind control because she was literally awful to Lilo especially after knowing what poor Lilo went through 😠
As an adult, Myrtle character is so deep it almost scares me. In Stitch has a glitch, we see in her dance performance, she advertise her father's store, which is full of USA products. I can safely assume that Myrtle's family are one of those white immigrants who stayed in the island and are highly problematic for the islanders.
