Meryl Streep speaks as part of the award presentation to Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award recipient Debbie Reynolds at the 2015 Governors Awards in the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood, CA, Saturday, November 14.
Her Granddaughter is so cute and looks like Debbie back when she was starting out! She inherited her mother's sense of humor as that seems to run in their family. As sad as the last few days have been, I think things happened as they were suppose to! Carrie and Debbie took care of each other and as sad as it is the loss to soon of Carrie, at least Debbie was spared from having to bury her daughter. They will live on through this beautiful talented young women having two Angels watching over her now. Carrie has now entered the white force with her Mama singing in the clouds.
Lost And Broken Nobody is supposed to die. It's our inherited imperfection that causes us to die. Our mind has infinite potential to learn and store information and in a perfect state our cells could continue to renew themselves. We're meant for eternal life.
Kat Kattington I'm assuming from the way you speak you must be a Scientologist, regardless check out Bright lights on HBO it's sweet, touching and funny and sad. Also Wishful drinking, very funny.
When Billie said at the end, "I think it's next to the ruby slippers" she reminded me of Debbie so much! My heart breaks too, Debbie is, it' so hard to even type this, but she is getting older and probably will not make public appearances anymore. Last time she did, you could tell she needed direction as to what was going on and it just saddens me. Have been a fan since I was a little girl.
Billie Lourd is an incredible girl. She is going to go so far in life, she has a great head on her shoulders and is incredibly beautiful. Carrie did a wonderful job raising her and Debbie was an amazing grandmother. I know both Carrie and Debbie are incredibly proud of her. It makes me smile to know that both Carrie and Debbie will live on through Billie. I thank Carrie for bringing Billie into this world to carry on her legacy and Carrie will live forever because of Billie. Debbie and Carrie, you will be deeply loved and missed forever. :(
Completely well-deserved. I'm so happy she finally received an award that's been long overdue. It's sad to think that she's one of the few living actors who have lived and experienced Hollywood's Golden Age. I hope the Academy will honor more Old Hollywood actors before they pass like Gene Wilder and Doris Day.
+Theresa Nguyen That is so accurate. Look how fortunate it was that Maureen O'Hara was presented with her honorary Oscar just months before she passed. They need to get a move on.
+Joel Brookes I know she hasn't passed yet but it still would be nice to see the Academy honor legends like her. And that's a shame that she refuses to accept them publicly because she and many others like her deserve it. She did accept the Cecil B. DeMille Award, granted that was over 20 years ago.
What A duo Debbie & Carrie were. Carrie was never without her can of coca cola in her hand or a cup with a drink of coca cola... they lived a regular life in their family relationships with each other although it was different than many people's lives because of their involvement in show business. I watched the documentary on HBO "Bright lights" which was awesome & showed the family in their everyday lives. It was actually nice to see how down to earth this family was and all the while they were in the spot light as "stars' Debbie & Carrie were so close, it's quite eerie that they passed one day apart. That is what was meant to be, there are things that we as mere mortals do not know or understand. Forces and powers bigger than us, we will see when we pass what we don't understand here on our planet earth. Peace & love to all
Oh now I just realize that their names were so cute by their generations in their family. In their names they are always "ie" in the last. ms.debbIE reynolds ms.carrIE fisher ms. billIE lourd
How nice, never saw this award show. The most unthinkable happened when daughter Carrie died then her mother Debbie died the very next day. Heartbreaking.
Miss Chamorro I know Miss Reynolds & her daughter just passed away recently over a week ago, what I really wanted to make a point is the fact that the academy recognizes celebrities while they are still alive Doris day ,Joan Collins, and few more that escaped my mind honor them in life not after they are dead,Joan Crawford used to tell Cristina " Tina bring me flowers while I'm still alive they won't do me any bit of good after I'm dead"
+TheTerryE I beg to differ. She has continuously been an advocate for women's rights, environmental issues, and other causes (women's rights is her main focus, however). I think she would be a great candidate for a humanitarian award.
Also, Meryl Streep has had an amazing career. She is considered one of the best actresses of all time. and she has a total of 19 Academy Award nominations and she has won 3.
+POTTERHEAD Sorry... Glenn Close deverves much more than Meryl... She created an organization - BRING CHANCE 2 MIND - and works in many other campaigns.
She's a national treasure. As a librarian myself I know how sacred her collection is :) I hope the powers that be in Hollywood will provide her with the means to preserve that history as long as it can possibly go... :)
+gmfd76 She no longer has the collection it was sold off a few years ago. She put it up as collateral when she was trying to get her museum built, the deal fell through their was a debt to be paid she sold it off.
@@kayvickery6247 Oh yeah definitely the shape going downwards, just not the color. Debbie had wonderful green eyes, and Carrie had beautiful brown eyes.
Young Billie Catherine LOURD daughter to Carrie Fisher & Bryan Lourd and granddaughter to Debbie Reynolds & the late Eddie Fisher is a class act. She has the talent pool in her genes and no doubt with her voice could sing deper as her mother used too. Well deserved honour to Debbie whom I hope recovers her health ailments. A true dedicated entertainer thru & thru ith singing, comedy, drama, live shows ect ....
Debbie would be so happy about the new academy museum that just opened this year 😄but I wished she was still around to actually go & see it also I hope there is something about her in the museum cause she worked hard & paid a lot of money to keep everything ❤️
Kudo's to Debbie...well deserved. i also would like to mention another actress, deserving of this award, thou posthumously, Hedy LaMarr. It was her contribution to our government in a partnered collaboration, to help during the second world war, but also being used during the Cuban crisis's. I understand that actress Susan Sarandan is bestowing such an honor in a PBS "American Masters" documentary sometime this year, 2016.
Anthony was speaking about the beautiful, very brilliant Austrian Hedy (Hedwig) Lamarr, whom many have considered the most gorgeous woman to ever work in films. She and composer George Antheil developed and patented a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes that used a code (stored on a punched paper tape) to synchronize random frequencies. This technology was called frequency hopping and is now known as spread spectrum that is used in satellites, cell phones, and other electronics. Who or what is Hedley?
Funny, Rachel Weitz was to star in a movie based on Hedy's life, called "Face Value", written and to be produced by Robert Redford's daughter, but the script needed bad rewriting, so it was cancelled and that was about 3 years ago. Personally, I could not see R. W. ( an English actress ) in that role.
Yes, Hedy's invention enabled us to be where we are now in all areas of instantaneous communication. While Rachel is a wonderful actor and a beautiful woman, she is so unlike Hedy in looks that I cannot imagine her in the role. There have only been a few women with similar form and features that come close to her physical perfection, even though she was (apparently) distressed at having a small bust in an era where there was a wide range of looks. As for a possible candidate, I can only think of one woman who would be similar in looks - and who is very intelligent - yet is from India: Aishwarya Rai. Although she has a lovely accent, it is not European. Blue tinted contacts and a dark rinse to her hair would strengthen the resemblance.
i live in El paso when I was very young and finally in sept 2017 I'm going back to where I always consider my home since I'll be retired by then in contrast with Miss Reynolds I'm not famous, but why does the academy always fails to honor great & talented people like Miss Debbie Reynolds??? why wait until they die???
I fucking love Billie. She acts the fuck out of her roles on AHS and she seems like a fun chick to just hang out and have a drink with. Fuck, what I wouldn't give to get a few shots of tequila in her and just pick her brain. She must have amazing stories.
Squeaks the brilliant Jean Hagen’s Lina Lamont in _SitR_: “If we bring a little joy into your humdrum lives, it makes us feel as though our hard work ain’t been in vain for nothin’.” Certainly not in vain for nothin’, or even anythin’, was the weepingly hard work that was put into the movie by a 19-year-old Debbie Reynolds, who once said, “_Singin’ in the Rain_ and childbirth were the two hardest things I ever had to do in my life.”
My prayers are with you Billie. I grew up watching Debbie and she had the ability to light up a room. And I am sorry about your Mom as well. It's unbearable now but I assure you that someday it'll get a little better each day and your two best friends ( Grand mother and Mom are always with you.***********
not much is mentioned today about Eddy Fisher-- who was a great singer>>>once upon a time OR Liz Taylor--- the most beautiful woman>>> and famous in her time>>>>> LIFE IS IRONIC--- but much is honoured for Carrie and Debbie... whady' ya think about that Eddie..........
AND FOR THE RECORD "WE ARE MORE HUMAN THAN YOU" by injection! What you folks are so trying to lose for selfs?, I am wondering as a Hispanic of "Dean" here: fashion. secret..
I have watched Debbie Reynolds in many interviews and read her book. She is not "Miss Nice" I can tell you that. She is phony and nasty even in interviews. By the way that marriage to Eddie Fisher was on its way out when Elizabeth Taylor came into the picture. Elizabeth (who was a wonderful and authentic woman) did not break up that marriage. Go read the book. Read Eddie Fisher's book as well.
Laurie Solomon You're coming off as a jealous hag. Debbie and Elizabeth got over it years ago. Maybe you should let it go, but just to clarify...if my best friend got involved with my husband, even if we were going to possibly split up I wouldn't have handled it as well as Debbie Reynolds did. Please tell me, where are these interviews that you are speaking of. The ones I've seen Debbie appears gracious and genuine, if a little aloof, but you can't possible fault her for playing her cards close to her chest if people like you are going to judge her motives. I guess, what I'm trying to say is, go fuck yourself and let the rest of mourn her loss in peace.
