el34 is much smoother , less unwanted hair in the tone. el34 also has a much more open natural clear sound. the 6l6 is more compressed and sounds more blanketed than el34s in comparison.
I was never into el34's until I purchased a mesa badlander which comes stock with el34's. I have to say I'm really loving the tone they provide. They are less gritty and have less hair than your traditional 6l6's. Now that I've broken in the tube for a few months the Amp sounds more brutal than when I had purchased it.
Cool. Hard to tell how the pre-amp change affects the change between the power tubes sound. Nonetheless the tube change sounds fresh & crispier as it should
EL34's aren't turning out to be as bad as what they've been made out be. 😂 I'm still curious about trying a hybrid amp with a mix of EL34's and 6l6's. In my case I have an EVH Stealth and a Dover DA-50 in my Livingroom right now. I know there's a difference between these amps, but the Dover has and awesome, clear, forward mid-range that the EVH lacks a bit but the EVH has a nice low-end that is very vibey. I suppose some of that low-end might be normally rolled off in a mix though..
Hybrid tube setup is intriguing indeed! It's surprising more amp builders haven't explored this, I know the Hughes & Kettner Triamp can accommodate a mixture of different tubes but I can't think of any others that do.
@@DaveKlussmann Mesa Road King and any Mesa amp that says "Simul-Class" (includes some of the Mark series) can. People usually report that they like all 6l6 in the Marks usually though. It could vary by amp I suppose.
If you move the switch from el34 to 6l6 it will run the tubes a little hotter and greatly improve the tone.it won't hurt a thing if you just want to try it and see what it sounds like !! but if you leave it in the 6l6 position it will shorten the life of the el34's.but it will take a while.my friend has a mesa bad lander and he does this and it sounds way more brutal in the 6l6 position.but I find it strange why the e34l tubes don't get any recognition because I prefer them over the el34's.
