@@cjmpyt we’re on the hunt for a possible new drummer so kinda slow on the FoM camp at the moment. Maybe I’ll do some play through videos. I haven’t made a lot of videos lately.
Interesting. This ended up going back because, while this video sounds pretty good, it was definitely sounding off in the room, and the output control wasn't working properly.
@@thewrathofraf NAH. i used to always place my MkIV combo behind my 4x12 so no one could see it. When asked what amp it was i would lie or deflect. lol.
@@jakebenigni lol why? Be proud of the amp you're using! If people are asking, that probably means they liked your tone. No reason to be stingy about the info.
@@thewrathofraf thats how things were back then. everything was a secret. plus we were a thrash band and we didnt want to be viewed as a Metallica ripoff band. it was viscous in those days. there is so much to it though. even ty tabor used to hide his amp. once everyone knew it was the gibson lab the price skyrocketed. all these amps go through cycles. you have to have a red stripe. mark iv A rev C is the one to get...blah blah blah. most of these is based on something someone did somewhere.
I always struggle to decide between harmonics and mid gain, any opinions on that? I have a bit of option paralysis with this amp hahaha it's my fav for sure though! Edit: also, I would usually set this in simul class and pentode mode. Any suggestions to try? Thanks!
Yeah, Simulclass and pentode is the way to go for full power, volume, and balls. Mid gain seems to have more gain than harmonics, so I tend to use that option. But yeah, I do switch them around from time to time to see what's what. Hard to really give opinions on settings to people because we all like different things.
@@jaboozled probably peavey 5152, definitely the evh 100s, fortin modded uberschall that a friend of mine owns…that amp haunts my dreams! lol. 5150 212 combo. Not sure if it counts having 3 versions of the 5150, but they just do what I want them to do.
@@thewrathofraf nice man. I have a 5150ii and 100S as well, and agree they’re both awesome. It’s almost too easy to get great high gain tones from those amps! Why a 5150 212 combo?
@@jaboozled The 212 combo is sort of in between the 5150 and 5152. Much tighter than the 5150, closer to the 5152, but with shared EQ. It was my favorite amp for a number of years.
The VII is much more modern sounding...Brighter, tighter, way less low end...it doesn't thump the same way the IV does. The VII has more gain and a much more narrow, focused sound, which I don't like as much as the IV. Unfortunately, I will have to return this one because it appears to have a couple of issues and I am not really willing to send it out to Mesa to deal with.
@@sheldonswan45 No I don't think I ever liked it better than the IV. Better than the V and JP, definitely. But after the IV, they took away the lead drive control, which is an important part of the Mark series sound, I think, and that definitely changed the amps in a way that isn't quite as big sounding as the older ones. Still a great amp, but I prefer the IV.
I'm sure you already know, but careful with those Sprague 10,000 caps as they tend to leak when they go. I have my IV at Mesa Boogie right now getting a cap service. Such an amazing amp though, my favorite so far. Good to see you posting again!
@@bluesriffinb1746 Yeah, this is my third Mark IV. My old A had to go back to Mesa twice, second trip was within a month of the first. And shipping from Florida is painful haha.
