Awesome! Thanks for this series. Very nice to see our northeast practice area from down low in a Heli. Lots of interesting details that we don't pick up from a fixed wing up high. We usually fly over that area around 3500ft to 4500ft etc doing maneuvers in fixed wings. Very nice.
Your video production gets better every time! Breathtaking quality and content. As an avid pilot(fixed wing) I am inspired by your generosity of your lifestyle, and lifestyle. I like to take little dogs flying too but, she is a spastic pomeranian(redundant). You inspire so many people Maria!
I was reading somewhere that helicopters generally don't fly very high like over 800 AGL feet even on long distance flights because if there is a problem want to get on the ground sooner then later. I would imagine want to be high enough to give some options where to auto rotate but not so high like 5000 feet where it takes longer to find a place. I could see this thinking where have an engine malfunction then a fire starts up. Last place you want to be is at 5000 AGL when a fire starts. We have Mountain goats here in Arizona horns curl into a ram around the Canyon and Saguaro lakes. If you go to Horse shoe lake when they have runoff during the spring months you can walk under the spill way watch the water pour over you it's really amazing to walk though that little pathway. I was kind of surprised they allow people to walk in there but they do the trail leads down from the parking lot.
I don't think it's true about getting on the ground faster. Helicopters generally fly lower to avoid other traffic. I do it for that reason -- 500 to 1000 feet off the ground -- and so I can see what's below me. There's usually no reason to fly any higher than that.
