It's 2024, and coincidentally, it's April, it's my first time hearing this song, thanks Meshell, I'm going through a break up 💔 and somehow this song makes me feel better, it's my lullaby ❤️
@@kellyanne4207 no she talked bout how meeting Prince was awkward and that he wasn’t used to meeting women like her. I think Prince judged her because she was g@y.
Works 4 me. Prince always said a cover shall give a different take on the original. That s why he loved D Angelo version of she s always in my hair. He would gave love this version 4 sure
From opening to close, sonically mesmerizing. Gutting, yet comforting in dealing with life and loss... For 7:05 insatiable seconds. “Thank you Meshell and band Ndegeocello.”
Everytime i hear this song, i think about his movie and this song plays when the boat sails away after the cops killed him...Prince would've definitely love this! Huge fan of Prince and your work as well..
Among many Prince songs this is one of my favorites! Mishelle's version is ethereally beautiful. I equally love Native A's version-french duo from Martinique. Prince was skilled in so many aspects & his genius will be sorely missed
Beautiful cover. Prince would have approved. Because it's an honest cover. Her honest version of the same song. Plus they had mutual respect. Genuine. Love this cover. R.I.P. Prince.
From the first note I heard the love and care put into this tribute/rendition. I love that it feels as if Prince dispersed his energy to Me'Shell and a rare few others who share his musicality.
Really lush and beautiful in it's stripped down gorgeousness!! Been loving you since Plantation lullabies and thankfully saw you a bunch way back in the day..the last time being your show at summerstage here in NY ..hmm..was it last summer or the summer before? lol pardon me..I'm forgetting at the moment. But either way..please please please add another NY or preferably Brooklyn show sometime this year... a show at Celebrate Brooklyn or Lincoln Center out of doors would really be the shit!! Le poisson Rouge sold out so fast it was impossible to get tix. So please.. for all us long time fans from NY.. please add another show somewhere here in NY on this tour. I'm aching to see you play this album live... it's not what I expected but it's definitely incredibly beautiful, gorgeously arranged/composed and so perfect in the way you reinterpreted all the songs. It's easy to see how much work you put into the album and how well thought out everything is! I know you haven't been playing your real old stuff for awhile now but imho you have some other lush and beautiful tunes from the 1st few albums that would fit perfectly with these if you'd be down to bust some of them out in concert. Either way I'm really praying that you add another NY or preferably Brooklyn show sometime on this tour cause I know at least 10 people who also got shut out of the gig at Le poisson Rouge due to it selling out so quickly. Gotta figure those 10 people also know 10 more people who are dying to see you again so 1 more show would be so appreciated!! Hope to see you soon. Best wishes
Woke up this morning and it was snowin here in Ohio...April 17th. I just happened across your video by chance at the end of my day, and the realization struck me. Beautiful rendition
Meshell emerges mid-COVID 'the consummate artist! Centered in the who she is while never losing perspective of the world her's included about her! Love what she chose to say about the gender question and validation of her work by others who see through such eyes! Long Live This Queen!
