It’s crazy how meshuggah released one of their best albums so late in their career.

If you want a MEAN, "sounds like something is coming for you" sound from the guitars, CRAZY drumming, check out nostrum. If my all time favorite song by them. Drum playthrough version is a MUST. Thomas does the work of 2 drummers. Its BANANAS what he is capable of. Also, never stop rockin out you two🤘🤘

LOL WHAT no they're not. They're the influence of everyone who influenced anyone. I wish more people would listen to them, sure, but it's extreme metal. They've found a lot of success considering how hard their music is to get into for most people, especially non-musicians.

Well, now you have to do "God he sees in mirrors", my fav track on the new record along with this song. Pay real close attention to the rhythm of it and you'll see why it's (literally) one of a kind (no other meshuggah song has done the same as it has).
@Egoblivion
@Egoblivion Год назад
I’ll go ahead and start the spoiler…the riff cycle is like 15/16 or 17/16…something like that (help me 😬!!), so the feel of the groove doesn’t repeat once. Not just feel, but the placement of the notes on each and every bar is unique, not to mention strategically placed slides, bends, sustains, etc.

I'm probably the only one on here that thinks this, but oh well. I just can't get deep into them no matter how hard I try. The droning djenty syncopation along with the monotone scream vocals just don't do it for me. I get that they are heavy and extremely talented and loved, but there's just no soul and groove in it for me. When I first heard this song a few months ago, I thought it was the epitome of all of those things for me. But that's just my personal opinion, and I wish them nothing but the best.
@Steveskies

Meshuggah take some getting used to, like a negroni cocktail or dark chocolate. Revisit them from time to time and they might start to get under your skin a little more. While there's a common thread through their albums, they're all quite distinct from each other and listens can depend on mood. For example, sometimes I'm in a Catch 33 mood - other times, a Contradictions Collapse mood. As to the 'no soul' part, I see where you're coming from and I agree to a degree. Meshuggah feels like sentient machines from the future making music, but I think the groove is something that will again make itself apparent over time. How long that takes differs from person to person.

@Steven Cobain Good thoughts. However, I don't think it will ever happen for me, though I could be wrong. For my three favorite "modern" bands (Gojira, Opeth, Mastodon), I was hooked from the first minute of the first song I ever heard of theirs. My love and appreciation for them only grew intensely the more I listened and explored. I've tried this with Meshuggah for at least 5 years and it hasn't happened yet, so I think that window is closed. 😉
