Dean this is a great idea. I remember when i first started playing i would do this, Just learn a part of a song and move on, For some reason i have moved from that and focused on full songs, which has slowed me down a lot. I am, because of these videos starting over if you will. Thank you for the idea. Please keep doing these.
I’m honestly kinda impressed that meshuggah is still super technical for Dean! Shout out to their rhythm section. Those rhythms are really tough to grasp.
That's an amazing part, it's especially powerful in their live version. For fun Pete Peterson did a cover just of that part m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T_k5xdjVe-c.html
I've been learning Meshuggah riffs all year so far and seeing you have to pause and take time to learn as well makes me feel a whooooole lot better hahaha! Rock on Dean!
Kalmah - Hades (intro) Be'lakor - Countless Skies (from 7:35 to the infinity) Divine Heresy - Facebreaker (intro) Ulcerate - The Lifeless Advance (from 1:07 to to 1:35) Mors Principium Est - We Are The Sleep (from 3:27 to 4:05) Quo Vadis - Point of no Return: Mute Requiem (intro) Beyond Creation (tapping part from 3:10 to 3:30) Warforged - Nightfall Came (from 0:13 to 0:34) Gorguts - Obscura (any part will be good) I will piss my pants from happiness if you try any of this small list
welp, after watching your videos the last couple months, went out and bought my first guitar since like 1999 (only played skate punk back then) googled easy metal songs, so sorta learned as i lay dying confined, and avenged sevenfold unholy confessions in a few days. *sloppily and painful* but ya, thanks for the inspiration to pick up guitar again my dude. ps...if anyone has any suggestions for moderately easy beginner metal songs, please lemme know!
SOREPTION - KING OF UNDISPUTED NONSENSE just a reminder, its what everyone truly desires, deep down also The Zenith Passage - Deus Deceptor both these intros are solutions for loose fitting pants IF YOU CATCH MY DRIFT
For your next video, I'd love to see you play Scar Symmetry - Ghost prototype I Measurement of thought. The solo is long starting at 2:36 but the goosebump inducing part for me starts at 2:56.
This was really awesome. It is cool to see you nonchalantly learn some riffs that might take others days or weeks. I would love to see more and extended videos following this concept from you.
Animals as leaders - Tempting Time 0:44 Riff with the cool picking and the sweeeeps there's a video of tosin playing it live at namm that you can check for help :3
My dude kills it once again!! You should try the solo at 2:17 in Buried Monuments by Job For A Cowboy next time. I've been working at it for weeks and would love seeing you nail it in 2 minutes 🤙🤙🤙
Dean! fellow Canadian here! (Ontario) I'm a huge fan of your videos! (hi Claire) one of my favourite metal bands of all time is The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza and Josh Travis uses 8 string guitars as well! Song: You Won't Riff: 1:55 that riff is the sound of all hope leaving humanity forever. it is pure evil. Cheers bud!
The keyboard solo in Limb from Limb, would be suuuuuuuhweeeeeeeeet! I remember when I met them back in 08, Luke told me they said it was too hard for guitar, lol. I wonder if anyone has attempted it. This was a while ago.. so I hope someone has tried
I feel like Dean’s RU-vid content with and without his wife has helped him grow as a musician/guitarist! Not that he wasn’t brilliant from the beginning!
one thing about the opeth riff (mikael seems to do this a lot) is that between the octave G# he plays the open A string. He does the same on the middle riff of Master's Apprentices
Transylvanian Hunger by Darkthrone. I know, you can probably play it left-handed with your eyes closed, but I think it's entertaining watching really technical guys playing very simple riffs.
