It's widely known (and apparent) how influenced they were by Metallica early on, but DAMN this is so much more tight and musical than Metallica to me. To my ears, they eclipsed their main influence on their first release. Crazy.
Agreed! A true sign of how well influenced a band is, can be shown by what they learned from said influences and making it their own realm of art - as opposed to ALWAYS imitating our favorite artist (today's biggest problem). By the time I learned of them in my second year of guitar I already thought they were in their own creative stratosphere. But their back catalog ain't half bad either.
I didn't know that they were that influenced by Metallica but I never followed them that much, but ya Cadaverous reeks of Justice now that you put that in my head. Reeks in a good way. Edit:this whole demo is clearly influenced by justice, maybe a bit of puppets. I hear disposable heros all day on the last track
Big difference. While this might be a bit boring and derivative of other technical thrash of the period, you can still see how they made a natural evolution from this stuff, and they can still pull out one of these songs with their dignity completely intact. Pantera on the other hand did a 180 from embarrassing hair metal to tough guy rock and then pretended the first era never existed.
Much more NY Hardcore or Thrash than some of their early stuff... fuckin LOVE this shit! WOW. Its no wonder they rose to such great heights considering they began here.
Aren't these all remade in Contradictions Collapse? Very nice old school thrash by the way! I love this stuff almost as much as I do their recent works.
for the people who say how different it sounds, it's really not that far off from "destroy erase improve" in my opinion. i think all their material is pretty much the best heavy music ever made.
The Debt of Nature I discovered sometime in the mid 2000s either in the very early youtube days or on some other place. It was so rare to find this but that song kicks ass. Their Metallica inspired era.
Wow no Tomas or Dick... and it’s kinda weird that the drummer here shares the same last name as the company whose pickups they used in their guitars in the mid 00s... Lundgren. Killer demo here, can’t believe the leviathan they’ve become lol This is one band that continues to make Metal the best Music in Human history.
Niklas on drums👌 at that time he had a isolated cage on the upper floor at his mothers house when he practice. 😅 i always wondered what the neighbors was thinking!
@@jamesftwyaheardme1445 Much exaggerated. The drum kit sounds good and the part is well played but the mics and the acoustics sound amateur, not to mention the mix. (At least you can hear the bass) These guys are incredibly talented musicians and songwriters so they can still write an album similar to ...And Justice For All and pull it off even with a low budget.
@@luke666808g No, this is definitely Metallica-influenced specifically. The vocal melodies (not just the voice), the specific rhythmic patterns. This is very much a continuation of the ideas and styles on ...And Justice for All.
@@jsebasvm GODVERDOMME, the figure that this name is supposed to produce is a cross between the greatest composer in the western tone system, dressed in a red-haired wig in tan obesity-fighting guise of Ruud Gullit with a thick white mustache of cocaine on the soccerfield hahahah!!!! 1
It’s funny how some don’t hear Metallica when basically the entire thing is a AJFA derivative. 😂 There are some solo stuff that are not similar to Metallica, but the drumming, rhythm guitar and singing is very similar to most of AJFA.
I heard in an interview with Tomas when the band was first offered a record deal and the prospect of touring the world opened up, Niklas basically stepped back from the band, sold his drum set to Tomas (!!!) and went back to living in his mountain cabin or something.
It sounds like it's inspired by ...And Justice For All, and Ride the Lightning, while simultaneously being inspired by all thrash, and even hardcore punk, of the same era.
I mean listening to a mediocre Metallica clone from 1989 still tops listening to a mediocre Metallica original from 1989. Also, gang shouts. Meshuggah should so very much bring them back.
I love the gang shouts too, but I don't think they would fit very well with the style of metal they play now. I don't think they've used them since DEI.
All you chatting shit about Metallica and AJFA are fucktards... that album paved the way for technical thrash ala Mesh and is a masterpiece of progressive music. "due to Metallica being good at pop metal and rock, but not really at epic compositions" could you try and be more edgy please? Metallica INVENTED the epic thrash metal composition with MOP and had already laid the groundwork a couple of years earlier with songs like the Call of Ktulu. The existences of MOP, Orion, AJFA, One and To Live is To Die implore you to retract your statement and stop being a tryhard elitist, thanks a lot
