The Violent Sleep of Reason was inspired by a Goya painting called "The Sleep Of Reason Produces Monsters." For the cover, the band once again enlisted Keerych Luminokaya who created the artwork for Koloss and The Ophidian Trek as well as the new images for each of the 7 albums and 3 EP's featured in the 25 Years of Musical Deviance box set. The album was produced by the band and was engineered by Tue Madsen of Puk Studios in Kaerby, Denmark.

This record has the best sound ever recorded period! Very round, thick, and in your face sound. Not compressed. It’s a masterpiece! Cheers to whoever recorded/ mastered it because they kept the essence of the live vibe alive!

The new Meshuggah album is delayed due to Covid-19. Their plan is to do the final touches on it Summer 2021.

Rob Scha Nay Nay they still used axe fx for koloss mixing with cab impulse responses and effects from Cubase's dedicated modeller. I don't know man I personally prefer TVSOR over Koloss in every aspect but especially for production. The newest album sounds phenomenal!

Koloss was a bit disappointing. Some great tunes but some left me underwhelmed. Violent sleep is strong all the way through in every aspect. It does have more energy as a result of recording live. Its closer to the way they are on stage.

I love that these guys are trying new things and are excited about their projects, and the album is really fuckin awesome. But imho the live approach doesn't really produce the best sounding Meshuggah. My favorite album of theirs, and for a lot of fans, is Catch Thirtythree, which went the complete opposite direction of this, stripping all "live" and "human" elements, even doing all programmed drums. The mechanical and inhuman sound that creates is way more cool and interesting and definitely gives them more room to experiment with doing crazy shit. I'd love for them to do another Catch Thirtythree type album

It certainly is not. This is not the tape days, and having the WHOLE BAND nail a take is harder than getting one at a time to do it, so you're not going to benefit from a time standpoint.
