“Fashion’s Biggest Night” just happened and I stayed up for you to watch the Met Gala live stream and media coverage. This year’s theme was “The Garden of Time” and in this video, I am going to discuss the outfits we got to see on the red carpet. Overall, it was a bit underwhelming (sometimes tough to not fall asleep), maybe even disappointing. But, fortunately, some guests saved the gala - even if it was only a very few. I discuss the highlights (quite some surprises among the winning outfits) and the lowlights and I share what I thought about this year’s Met Gala and the future of the event.

For me Tyla was my fave. At the end of the Garden of Time short story, it is said what was left was only statues that turned into sand. Loved that they focused on that than taking the easy way of flowers. How also they included the theme because her dress was so fragile it can only be worn once🙌🏼

I enjoyed this video so much. So interesting! Really appreciated all the research and detailed information you shared. The Lewis Hamilton outfit really surprised me as your favorite, but I see why given all the research and planning that went into it.

I think it’s probably not a “typical” Met Gala outfit people would expect as a winner because it’s not shocking or big and it’s one which many people probably didn’t even notice. But I really appreciated the thought and that this strong message was more important to him than a few seconds of additional spotlight because of a ridiculous outfit without a meaning.

I'm no connaisseur of fashion, but I'm interested, so I watch the Met gala each year, and I watch the vlogs with the highlights. I too hope that your vlog gets picked up by lots of viewers, because I like the way you approach the Met gala as a whole. The importance of giving young, new designers a chance, the contradiction of H&M versus emphasizing the importance of vintage and reuse, I can go on. I enjoyed your vlog very much, so thank you for your time and effort!

Great video. I enjoy your knowledge about the different outfits. I am disappointed with Nicole Kidman, despite the fact that it is vintage, but that she is promoting Balenciaga. She must know about their reputation, and their children's advertising. Love from Denmark

Thank you for your kind feedback! I understand your point, I am also a bit surprised that it has become very quiet around that incident and Balenciaga's reaction to it. Apart from that, I also did not find the dress itself that great, I love the original and this was just another very literal copy of an archival garment on the red carpet.

Maybe the T-shirts are in reference to re-using materials and doing it with natural fibers like cotton?

I read after making the video that this was indeed one reason and an interpretation also of the time perspective and the “reawakening” of fashion.

Thank you for your lovely comment, this is so kind. I agree with you, many other channels or the media focus rather on the celebrities than the clothes. I am not sure why but it may be because this triggers more emotions than talking about the garments and emotions result in clicks, engagement and money. That was why I started these videos because I looked for content to learn more and could only find a few and I appreciate it when people appreciate fashion and want to learn more.

Another fashion commenter linked the wet look to belle epoch (the era of the theme story) and society ladies who supposedly died of pneumonia because they were into wearing thin wet cotton muslin dresses outdoors at night. But Doha said nothing about that, maybe the designer had that reference in mind, maybe not.

@@kathydurow6814 that‘s also an interesting point. I think they should make it a point to not only photograph the outfits but ask more questions about them on the red carpet but I guess there is no time for that

@PinkLookbook You often learn more when the "get ready with me" or similar stories are published online. Emma Chamberlain did one which was fascinating, showing initial meetings with the designer & her stylist in Paris through to final fittings & getting ready.

I was terribly disappointed this year too. Lots of gorgeous gowns, but hardly any were true to the theme! There were some winners, Zendaya, Gigi Hadid, and a handful of others, but way too much of the same thing we've seen for the past few years.

Yeah, it is getting a bit boring. It’s a bit of a shame. And yeah, there were many beautiful outfits but missing it. I wished the focus on the social media effect was less, then the fashion would be better I guess

Wonderful, dear Liz! You have shared some very insightful observations and insights into the gala. My only point of disagreement would be with regard to Zendaya. I thought her first outfit was absolutely brilliant, perfectly capturing the exalted "woodland nymph" theme. Her makeup was perfection. And she presented the look so well. I see why you like her look. I think for me it was similar to JLo, it was beautiful but somehow did not click with me. And I also feel that she was on the red carpet quite early, so maybe I had much higher expectations. I do think that Law Roach and her are a really good team

@@PinkLookbook I actually liked the first outfit Zendaya wore - the way I interpreted it is rotten fruit (passage of time) and still life paintings of the great masters - here I assume the short stury takes place during the same time period as when still life was at its highest. Also, the French term for still life is nature morte or "dead nature" which is also really fitting of the dead garden at the end of the story.

@@PinkLookbook I know that, obviously. But his style is not Margiela, why is he using another brand to make sort of copies of himself? This was not a meet half way situation. I love Galliano. I wonder what is the talk under the courtain since Anna wanted to make the exhibition about him, which resulted in this rushed uninspired thing.
