The fact he was a known gangster driving a known vehicle used in a shoot out, and of course gave chase when the police asked him to stop can be safely ignored, after all he was just a construction worker with a bright future. Never let the facts get in the way of a good old institutional racism story eh.

This what a witness, September 2022, told the London Evening Standard what happened next. " Armed police jumped out and shouted at the man Kaba to get out of the car. It was at least a dozen times. The guy Kaba in the car had lots of opportunities to stop but he refused. he then started driving towards a police car and smashed into it, then reversed. He just wouldn't stop the vehicle. Legally, it's going to be based on the threat to life. In most jurisdictions the police are allowed to use lethal force if someone is driving a vehicle at an office outside of a vehicle. If they are driving at low speed at an officer inside a vehicle that isn't considered a threat to life. That's basically what this case is about. The British armed police are actually trained to be far more aggressive than police forces in other countries (possibly due to their relatively poor training - the met police's firearms course is only 5 weeks). For instance they are trained to point their guns directly at suspect even if their isn't an immediate threat visible. This really increases the chances of accidents happening.
@Mark-delta5

End of the day, you've got uniformed armed police shouting continuously to stop... get out of your car etc and then he rams into other vehicles trying to escape. We'll the outcome isn't going to be ideal. Now is it???. If this was a white man, there wouldn't be any riots. It's just an excuse to blame the police like in America. Get a grip.

If Mr Kaba were white this case would have been closed. How can there be protest just because the man was black, ramming a marked police car then trying to run a policeman over are not the actions of a peaceful person, now we have a political trial of a man who was doing his job, no one is thinking of the effect this will have on the policeman’s family, nor on the morale of his colleagues. I am not a supporter of violence by the police or anyone else for that matter, but hampering the police in the pursuit of their duty helps no one.

It's interesting how they chose not to mention that Chris Kaba had recently completed a 4-year prison sentence for firearm possession. On the night in question, he used his car to forcefully escape from the police vehicles that had surrounded him. While he might not have had a weapon in his car, he was using his car as a weapon against the police officers, putting their lives in danger in an attempt to escape. In this high-pressure situation, the police officer acted in self-defense to protect not only himself but also his colleagues' lives. He had only a split second to make a decision, and he made the right one.Why does the media consistently present us with biased and one-sided stories?

Kaba was driving an Audi Q8, not registered to him, which was followed by an unmarked police car occupied by armed officers.[5] The Audi was believed by police to have been linked to a "firearms incident" the day before through automatic number-plate recognition.[5] The police car following did not activate their lights or sirens.[5] At around 10.07pm, Kaba made a left turn from New Park Road onto Kirkstall Gardens.[5] A marked armed response vehicle was waiting on this road.[5] Police vehicles were said by witnesses to have boxed the car in, and witnesses claimed that Kaba ignored repeated orders to get out of the vehicle, and was trying to ram the Audi through the roadblock.[6] Armed officers exited their vehicles then approached the Audi on foot.[5] According to the IOPC, a police officer fired a single round at Kaba through the car's windscreen, striking him.[5][6] He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries just after 12:00 am the following day.[7]

As an officer in the UK, this is unfortunately extremely standard protocol. If someone is shot there's an investigation usually led by the IOPC, if not, by the internal professional standards department. IOPC are usually more critical and direct the CPS to charge the officer especially if the suspect dies. As with all court cases, the jury and judge will hear the facts of the case, witnesses will be cross-examined and all evidence scrutinised. Any body worn video footage or CCTV will be played in court to tell the full story. There is no doubt in my mind, with just the facts presented alone here, that the jury will find the officer not guilty.

Chris' history is just being caught with a toy gun 5 years prior & going to a youth offenders for that. Which is a fairly minor crime anyway. Had he not be freed early for good behaviour, he'd have still been inside, not murdered. The officer saw no gun. And no gun imitation or otherwise was ever found. When boxed in by police cars Chris chose to try to ram his way out. He was not risking anyone's life. The officer chose to shoot to kill. He's guilty of unlawful killing AKA murder. Simple as that. Perverting the course of justice is the only way that officer is walking free. I hope he goes away for life. But if he does go free, sadly it wouldn't be the first time police get away with murder.

The police could have made themselves known to him (put on your blue lights)and arrested him if they wanted him ....they didn't, they shot him dead. It's a closed case of murder as far as I'm concerned

So, young black man associates with black criminals who had been involved in a shooting, driving the car that wasn't his but that had been used in that shooting, refuses to stop for police when lawfully ordered to do, ends up getting shot for not obeying commands. Got it. And then the black community protests, cries foul, cries racism, parents declare man's innocence, entire community blames the police for their own behaviour and thinking that laws don't apply to them or that they can pick and choose the ones they want to obey, and then wonders why these events continue to happen. Here's an idea; don't treat the police with disrespect, obey a lawful order, don't associate with known criminals or anyone involved in gun crime, and then you won't get shot. Not really a hard concept to grasp, but of course being black is a get-out clause for anything these days.

I have every sympathy for this man's parents. He perhaps didn't deserve to die this way. However, I recall a well-known phrase, which reads: "live by the sword, die by the sword". Although Mr. Kaba was unarmed at the time of his death, he was not an example of a clean-living, morally upright citizen. He had been known to carry firearms and associate with others who did the same. The fact is that he was a criminal, with a considerable record behind him. Again, I say that he should have been provided with 'due process', but guess what? I have never been shot by the police - why? - because I do not mix with criminals or commit crime, and I do not resist or antagonise the police, even if they are egotistical morons! I do not expose myself to, or engage in behaviour which will attract the attention of the cops..... This will simply re-open an old wound, with Mr. Kaba becoming Britain's George Floyd (who was incidentally, also a criminal of the lowest morals - I think the words normally used are "a piece of sh*t" - another who perhaps should not have died the way he did, but I refer you to the phrase I quoted in my second sentence above, regarding life & swords. Finally, what do Messrs. Rodney, Duggan & Baker have in common, along with Mr. Kaba? This is what builds the statistics, which don't look good for anyone involved - police or black people.

I don't think you understand how charges work. If you shoot someone, (or by another means for that matter), and they die - you're charged with murder, it's nothing to do with whether the "shooting" was justified or not, that's what the jury are there for, to determine a person's innocence or guilt. In the majority of police shootings, the firearms officers usually always get charged, especially when someone dies, but in the vast majority of cases the jury deem the killing as "lawful" having heard the evidence, being presented the facts of the case and hearing the circumstances, and witnessing the officer(s) and witnesses being cross examined.

My worry in this case is whether a fair trial is even possible for the Police Officer after a continuing demand for 'Justice' for Mr Kaba. Justice is a two way street, it must be applied blindly, and not tainted by passion. The defence to killing mentioned by the News caster and the Solicitor is of course that defence set out in Sec 3 Criminal Law Act 1967. (as amended) The same Law that governs how we all act . It is not ,as so often impled, a law for the Police alone. It is not a new Law and the bar is set , quite rightly very high. I suggest that the reason no Police officer has been convicted of an unlawful shooting is because they followed the Law correctly.

The jury are selected from a panel list of people, they have no involvement in the incident and they are screned prior to the trial to ensure there is no obvious undue bias towards him being found "guilty" or "not guilty" (i.e the jury member isn't just "anti-police" and will find the officer guilty no matter how good or poor the evidence is).

Well how much extra pay do you get for being armed in the UK police, answer is nothing, the same you do for driving a Police car, its not a requirement of joining. I am well retired, having worked on the London Met Police Special Patrol Group, I and others were armed on some operations. Always at the material time the gun was in my hand. You don’t have to shoot, but if its required , being in the holster is just not an option. My wife asked could I shoot someone, well dear going through a door, where its suspected that the suspect is armed, of course. I have taken armed suspects into custody, without firing the gun, but incidents happen so fast, and you must react. The question is why has it taken so long to charge the Officer with murder, I suspect that political considerations are at work. The CPS having looked at all the evidence, have signed off in this allegation. I just wonder what reaction other armed officers might have. Can we please have a Trial in Court and not in the media.

De Menezes was summarily executed on a busy train by officers who had decided he was to be shot dead. The police didn’t declare armed police and gave no warning as testified by every witness questioned although bizarrely every witness was told at the hearings you must be mistaken. De Menezes was murdered. On 3rd March 2012 Anthony Grainger was shot dead by Manchester police as he sat with two friends in a stolen parked car. No warning was given. Grainger had been watched for one month after a USB stick with informants details had been stolen from the kitchen of a serving police officer (seems very unlikely). Grainger was not seen with a gun or associating with a gun in the surveillance operation. Grainger was posing no threat, he didn’t know he was being watched as he sat in the car and was summarily executed by officers who decided he was to die.
