Quest 2 is fine for now, and as it has sold over 20 million units, developers aren't gonna stop support anytime soon. Meta will continue selling it as the cheaper option (quest lite rumors might change that though but what it is , is yet to be seen). I'll wait for a quest 4 until passthrough gets REALLY good. Until then my quest 2 will carry me along for a few more years.
The Q3 doesn't feel like a massive jump like the Q2 was to the Q1, I almost exclusively play SteamVR using the Quest 2, so I see no point in upgrading for a while aswell.
I have both and the quest 3 is a huge step up in comfort and the cameras are a huge upgrade for someone who needs to see their mouse/keyboard frequently while "flying"
I agree except for a new VR user, I would recommend Q3. I've found that new VR users don't understand the lens sweet spot and Q3 is so much better in that category.
I’d recommend the 2, I have friends and family both with a VR headsets they rarely use anymore. I mainly use mine to watch movies now in the Big Screen app. I’d say get the 2 and if they end up liking if over the course of a year of two. Sell it and upgrade, or it’ll just be a big paper weight.
I feel like a new VR user should test whether or not they will even like the VR with the Quest 2. There are multitudes of things to consider when having a VR headset.
@@KanoogI use the Quest 2 and no. Videos look low res, everything looks blurry unless you found the perfect spot, peripheral vision is distorted and blurry. I rather pay more for the 3
I really can't recommend a Quest 3 over a Quest 2 since there's a big price gap between them 300 eu for Quest 2 and 550 euro for Quest 3. 250 euro is a lot of money to be paying extra for minor changes.
THE most important feature to me which for some reason VR reviewers never touch upon is FOV. Ask yourself what is the point of VR? Its to immerse yourself. And what better way to immerse yourself is there than to take up your whole field of vision? Rather than feel like youre looking through goggles. Its really a no brainer yet its often ignored. So if this headset does not improve field of view, then its not worth an upgrade from the Quest 2.
I agree, FOV is the most important thing. Meta 3 got a boost to 110° (up from 89° on the Meta 2). I've used a Valve Index too (108°) and to me it makes all the difference.
I like my Meta 2 but I might get into a Meta 3 down the road. I had the chance to compare my Meta 2 (89° FOV) to Valve Index (108° FOV) and the 19° increase in FOV makes it that much cooler. For me, immersion is more important than resolution and framerate. Meta 3 got a bump to 110° FOV.
Holy shit this thing has a wider FOV than the valve index? That might sell it for me, I want to use it for war thunder sim so that extra would be so nice.
I mean, The Quest 2 should be able to handle Quest 3 exclusive games if they're also released to PC, as the GPU of the PC would be doing most of the processing, and as long as you have good wifi and/or a good cable for streaming to the Quest 2, then buying a Quest 3 immediately is nothing to worry about (besides, Augmented Reality takes up a LOT of battery power on the Quest 3(90 minutes of AR playtime) The Quest 2 is also still getting updates for optimization despite the Quest 3's release, and has longer battery playtime than the Quest 3, (Q2: 2.5 - 3 hours, Q3: 2.2 hours playtime comparison)
I have a mid range pc and decent wifi but I don't feel like spending lots of money on the quest 3, do you recomend that i get the quest 2 and do pc vr with it?
@@FreshExp as long as your pc can run the games smoothly, the quest 2 is still a good choice for pc vr Its cheap as well compared to the other vr headsets on the market, I've had my Quest 2 for about two years and it still works great.
with quest 3 exclusive games he meant mixed reality games, which quest 2 can't support. games that appears and you can interact with in the real world.
Good video, but you didn't touch on battery life. The Q3 is a bit of a battery hog. They added a battery saver mode to get it closer to the Q2, but the Q3 really needs a battery strap to make the runtime adequate.
I'm buying the quest 2 gamestop has a black Friday deal where you get it new for 250 with a 50$ meta store gift card, I'll get the 3 at taxes plus I hear the quest 2 has way better battery
I want a Q3 but I have a Q2 and honestly the quest 2 is awsome still . it does everything i want to do in VR right now. never been to much into passthough and never have i done mixed reality. But i just upgraded my PC memory to 32 gigs of DDR4 and now my steam VR is running awsome. playing HL Alyx for the first time and man o man is it awsome. so sticking with the 2.
I got the Quest 3 and the optics and AR are amazing but when a Quest 2 used is $169 like the one I sold to get the 3, it makes me wonder if I should go back. I’m just not using VR enough to justify $550 vs $169. Not sure what to do.
Me and sone friends have a quest 2 and tryna get more friends to get them so we can play together so I really hope the 2 is supported long enough with new releases. i find a lot of the games in the store look underwhelming so it would suck if when they finally release stuff i want it ends up on the quest 3
I just got my quest 3 today after having my quest 2 for 3 years. It is a difference because the battery life of my Q2 has almost degraded to around 30-45 minutes of gameplay, from an advertised 2 hours. Yet the Q3 is around only 1 hour due to the immense battery hogging of the high-performance XR2 Gen 2, I could also notice the heat. I recommend the Q3 for new VR users due to the compatibility with coming games and older games.
I'm a 38 year old single guy that lives alone and I'm on a tight budget. I used to have a Samsung Gear VR headset many years ago and I thought it was cool, but then I upgraded my phone and stopped using it. Since then, I've been a VR virgin. I mainly want a headset to use to watch movies on and link it with my new Bose QC headphones. I'm not a gamer or anything like that. If I was to use it for anything other than movies or RU-vid, it might be to be able to see my computer desktop and control that, but I don't think that's essential. Anyways, which do you suggest I get? I just want something to support my new headphones to block everything out. Should I go for the Quest 2 or Quest 3?
Quest 3 or the meta quest pro the quest 3 is the sequel of the quest 2 which are both meant for gaming quest 3 has better performance and more user friendly than my meta quest pro but the meta quest pro is more for adults for the lack of gaming hardware on it its meant for business / mixed reality and more for everyday use instead of entertainment purposes so either quest 3 or meta quest pro
Tell you the main advantage of the Quest 2 over the Quest 3 is the price! Quest 2 in the UK is £199 and the 3 is £469.....It's not worth the difference.
This was vary helpful to me because I was just about to buy the quest 2 but that decided to look into the quest three. The first video that came up was this and it was the only video I needed. Thx
Really big. Sadly the 3 has no OLED so when the screen fades to black it does not really go dark like the 1. Other than that it is so much better. Everything is faster, a lot faster, resolution is way better, much more comfortable especially with the BOBOVR headstrap. I am really happy with the 3. @@jairpenaloza9784
This seems like the New Nintendo 3ds VS the 3DS XL. Sure the the newer one is better but the upgrade is not at all enough to justify upgrading. I think I'll keep my Quest 2 for now and then get a Quest 3 when not having one hinders my experience. I love my New Nintendo 3DS but it isn't THAT much better than my old one.
From what i gather, the quest 2 is still great, and if you have one already its not a big deal to drop another 500$ to get the quest 3 unless if you are very serious about vr, but if youre looking to get a headset and dont already have a quest 2, the quest 3 is worth the extra price.
Why in the world would they drop the price before Christmas? Pretty sure anyone in the marketing team that suggests that will be unemployed for Christmas. 🤣
I own a Quest 2. Watching movies and or RU-vid inside the “Big Screen” app looks great. Moving forward… We all know that the Quest 3 provides an improved visual experience, but is this limited to only new content that is updated and/or created for the Quest 3. Has anyone purchased/used pre-existing apps such as (Brinks Traveler, Jurassic World, Star Wars Pinball and/or Spheres)? Are the visuals within these app much clearer and sharper?
The one thing i hate about my quest 2 is how much it falls down on my face and that sweet spot disappears and its frustrating. With the quest 3 being slightly heavier is that still a problem with it?
Get a better strap with a battery pack so it can work as a counterweight for your 2. The official pro strap is $100 but Amazon has a million battery pack straps to choose from that are waaay cheaper. Just looking at the 3, you'll still want a counter balance but the fact it's thinner will keep the weight far more in check.
@@shanekeene947 oh I brought the bobovr M2 and while it has helped, the headset still falls down my face unfortunately. I'm going to get the battery pack version to try and balance the weight and see if that helps.
In my opinion the game library just isnt big enough just yet to even justify the quest 3 so the quest 2 has all the good games you can play on the quest 3 so good choice on the quest 2.
Tbh speakers don't matter when im using my razer nari ultimate Headphones which I highly recommend you get if you want to be fully immersed with the haptics on them it makes beat Saber so much fun with bass heavy songs (kracken v3 hypersense and pro models are also amazing I just prefer the ultimates because they have really big ear cushions and swivel ear cups which makes it the perfect fit)
7 minutes into the comparison and you have not mention the storage difference or that Meta 3 do not have OLED screen. I see Meta 3 as too little of an upgrade to be worth the cost. A Quest 2 128GB i can get for say..200£ used. While a Meta 3 128gb is closer to 400£. The "Upgrade" is just too little to deffend the price.
I never had a vr headset ( apart from google cardboard) I was thinking of buying the quest 2 cause of the price difference But that piano demo really looks cool
If you are connecting it to a pc either through cable or air it really does not make a difference. All oculus pale vs pc connection with it. Between the 2 and 3 there is not enough difference to bother paying out another bundle. AR is better and in colour sure but as far as graphics very little. Just get a 2 and the upgrade headstrap and save money.
I had a Quest 2 for which I spent a lot of money on upgrading the headstrap situation, adding prescription lenses (wearing glasses with the Quest 2 is NOT enjoyable) and custom foam, and it still was not my cup of tea. I found it uncomfortable if worn more than a few minutes, and I ended up referring to it as a $300 headache machine. Even my 2 youngest kids got over it pretty quickly. I ended up giving it to my oldest son. At least he enjoys it. I think VR is not for everyone, and as much as I wanted to like it, I just couldn't. I would still like to try out the Quest 3 just to see the differences firsthand.
I'm considering buying either of these (neither my boyfriend or I have ever had or used a vr set). The quest 2 is currently £248, however the quest is about £480. I'm not sure I can justify that for the 3, but is it worth getting over the 2?
@@zaylek6568i have had a quest 2 for years and personally i dont think the extra money for the 3 is worth it especially as an introduction, the quest 2 is still a marvel
I'm also looking to buy my first ever VR set because I'm really interested in virtual reality and all that. Never used one as well. I don't know which one to buy. The quest 2 is already very expensive for me but I just wanna know the 3 is so much better that it's worth me sacrificing all my money for it.
Ill answer the question for you, just get the quest 2 its not even a question. Wait for them to make the Quest 4 and hopefully there will be some actual improvements that isnt intended to sucker you out of your money. Do yourself a favor and with the money you save from guessing the q3, get a portable charger for your q2 because they decided to force an update to make the q2 useless in terms of battery life.

My first concern is the health of my eyes having screen displaying si close to my eyes... And how about people wearing glasses? Can they keep wearing them at the same time as the VR headset?
VR is healthier to use than a phone screen or monitor. The focal distance when looking through vr is about 6 feet though yeah eye strain is still an issue
Eye strain can still be an issue, but when you put virtual displays at a distance, you're not focusing your eyes as close up. Yes, there is an included glasses spacer with both headsets, so you can wear glasses while using them.
Not all the points. Missed one tini tiny detail. The quest 2 has double the storage of the $500 quest 3. Kinda an important point don’t ya think? Of course unless you want to compare $750 q3 vs $200 q2. This would have been a good point.
The biggest thing for me is the price difference. One is kind of manageable. The other out of many people's reach. It's a hard choice because most would want the quest 3 but can't afford it.
well I mean, the quest 2 now have a great deal from Amazon of £249 which is a £199 Quest 2+ £50 gift card bundle, so it is makes Quest 2 a really sweet deal thou, It would be more worthy to wait for next opportunity for Quest 3 to lower the price to about £300 and at that point you could choose Quest 3 for the MR :)
I am not interested of games or virtual worlds at all. I am curious about Mixed Reality. I am hoping if I could do programming using glasses, so that I can see the REAL keyboard, and 2-3 VIRTUAL computers screens/windows at the same time. Can this work well with MQ3? Also, it seems no one touch the issue of using glasses while wearing the set. If it is difficult to wear glasses under the device, then it can be a big nono...
Plus price drop of quest 2 to $250 really makes it it tough decision buy, like getting a elite strap and battery pack would still be cheaper than quest 3, good luck on decision either way have fun
That's what you took away from this? No. I have had my q2 for a couple years, and just got my q3 yesterday. The q3 has way better tracking and overall performance. If you play fast-paced sword fighting/boxing games like I do, the q3 is the one you want.
i used to have a vive and it was super comfortable, I would easily play hl alyx for hours with it, then I got a quest 2 and it was super uncomfortable, no matter how I adjust the straps it was just putting so much pressure on my forehead and around my eye. can any of you who have it tell me how much better is the quest 3 when it coms to comfort on playing for hours?
Still though, 2 releases that will both run on the previous generation. SImply a throwback to the 3ds in 2011 with the AR stuff with a few extra features. My opinion save the hundreds difference or stick with the 2.
looking at that i am sure they got influencer quest 3's with better cameras, my quest three doesnt look like this also not on the 2 dimmensional mirror image, by the way i am pretty sure that the quest 2's resolution dropped by 30 % since the release of the three, can someone confirm that?
