Thank you. These types of podcasts are very encouraging and also confirm that I made the right decision to change to low carb lifestyle to remit my diabetes back in Oct 2021. I am now metabolically healthy (confirmed by tests and scans as well as reduction in weight; lost more than 20% of my starting weight without trying and lowered blood pressure), 65 yo F with CAC of 0 (I doubt that this is related to going low carb but only my first test so no benchmark unfortunately) and cardiologist and GP want me on a statin because my LDL increased (last test it was 300), yet my trig/HDL ratio is good. My GP who graduated in 2018 is not using the trig/HDL ratio and says that I am at a high risk of heart disease. Interestingly even though she knows I am low carb, she didn't suggest looking at my diet to consider if something I am consuming is causing the increase in LDL. And I said no to statin and have decided not to change my diet and wait to see what my next test is. I'm also hopeful that the hyper-responder trials will show that high LDL is not an issue.
Point out how poorly the current treatment does not improve the status of the patients in the long term, that they continue to decline. Time to change the way the medical system thinks.
After a year of complaining to my previous doctor about neuropathy in my legs and having unending thirst and passing out bc I assume low blood sugar I was tested for diabetes and tested positive.my doc said he resisted bc i wasn’t obese and was fairly active. I was put on fast and slow acting insulin which made me feel terrible .That was 15 years ago. I read how bad metformin was for patients over 60 so I stopped taking it I weaned myself off insulin and started more exercising. It took me 8 years to get off 3300 mg gabapentin which was awful. Once I forgot to take them before bed.I am convinced that if I didn’t have them it would have killed me. It took 3 days in order for me to feel right and function. I am trying to follow a ketogenic diet but have not been very successful. I just rarely eat. My new endocrinologist will not give me a cgm meter bc I’m not on insulin or metformin. My doctor disagrees with my food choices who by the way is a diabetic and wears a glucometerand a cgm monitor. Since I’ve come to a standstill on the meter I thought I would focus my attention on what I heard you say or I thought. That your diet can affect your mental wellbeing. I have a bipolar diagnosis. Can you tell me where I can find material on foods that I should be eating in order to combat that diagnosis. I’m already on some meds but Id prefer another way. Thanks so much for your time . Be well…Do no harm.
