and blessed hundreds of thousands (possibly even millions) metal heads with a nonstop barrage of killer music through the years. So much history behind that label, I'd love to chat w Slagel one day, dudes seen some stuff!
Hey Brian you look great! This is John Deeds from Woodland Hills. Thanks for the great video,I have some of the promotional stuff that you showed and I recently stumbled on an old business card wallet with your old silver business card when you had an office on Ventura blvd. Merry Christmas can’t wait for part 2.
One thing I'll say about Metal Blade that's different than other labels, no matter what band I was in or however many recordings we submitted for consideration (trades, distribution, getting signed) you guys always responded! Mad respect for that (among many other things!)
Thank you Brian for that amazing trip down memory lane. It's so cool to see all of the OG items on display and to see it all preserved as amazing pieces of metal history. Also, I must extend a huge thanks and praise for the Sacred Reich and DRII reissues!!!!!! Please keep the reissues coming, we all want /need them!!!!! What are the possibilities of Metal Blade getting the rights to reissue DRI's album Full Speed Ahead? Just planting a seed!😎 Thanks for everything and cheers to you and your team!
This is so COOL! Seeing the original film for Hell Awaits and also learning why those damn CD long boxes were made. Can't wait for part 2! Need to see more!
I always wondered what the deal was with those long boxes. I vividly remember Metallica's Black Album being sold in those, nice to finally know the history of them.
Slagel complimented me on my Witchfinder General shirt when I was hanging out at a metal bar in L.A. in the late 90s. I didn't even know who it was at first, but a friend (whose band was signed to MB at the time) introduced him. I was like, "Ok, cool, thanks!"
Really like the Cannibal Corpse drumset at the beginning. Looks like the one Paul used onstage at the Huntridge Theater in 2004, shortly before the theater closed. Cannibal and BDM was the 2nd to last metal show there if not mistaken.
Consider signing Post Mortem Superstar... Amazingly unique Eccentric Blackened Death Thrash Doom w/smatterings of Deathrock, Glam and Horror soundtrack! They are from Hardlyweird, Ca. P.S- Lizzy Borden and Cannibal Corpse rule! I also commend Metal Blade for signing Dead End back in the mid 80s. Stellar Japanese metal!
I really hope there's never a true end for physical media. It is a big part of the experience of music and to deprive people in the future of this just because of technology seems tragic. Streaming is cool, but just not the same. I still have some of the long boxes I bought back in the day, probably not in good condition but I did like that brief moment in time when they existed. Not as nice as vinyl of course.
But Wikipedia states dat Robert the Doll is an allegedly haunted doll exhibited at the East Martello Museum in Key West, Florida. So dey gave the doll back? 🤔
Pardon me for "judging a book by its cover," but, despite the fact that they ARE "old school," some of these bands look "too ordinary" to called "metal," TODAY. Yes, "people change/grow over time," BUT, BUT, if some of these were to release (new) music, TODAY, I WOULDN'T BUY IT. WHY? Their "look doesn't 'match' the music." In other words, I'M more for "TRADITION," rather than CHANGE."
Was all the past, Nowadays these records co belong to museums or still to some naive band. Open your website, have your cd professionally done for sale on your website. Make few pro videos dd them on your site. Upload some on youtube. Then the worthy record co "will come" to you. Do not come to them.
