My grandfather told me he used to break up old cast iron pots and use the pieces as shot for his slingshot to kill rabbits during the depression.

Great to seethat you aer out-and-about again. You have been missed. All the charcoal you have been finding could be residu from burning brush , etc. from clearing the land or from making charcoal. A lengthy process that had to be done several times each year. Great video.

Great Video Beau! I thought you were on to an awesome dump with all that pot material, buckles, and such in that small area. Hope you get back there and dig like the beast you are without a camera, love seeing you dig, but if you did not worry about us I think the finds would mount up, and way beyond the 12th Georgia regiment.

The button with the cross hatch was a light plug cover, that even in the modern, a lot of the florecent lighting, the long metal style has holes that you punch out to install your select light bar and wiring. The "bullets" that are rubber look like pnumatic covers. I'd say your're excavating near an old factory that made lighting. :)

I've got one of those "cooking" pots on my front porch. I think it was for making Apple Butter, and scalding chickens and hogs... It's missing a half moon piece from the rim... About six inches by four... If you ever find some pieces big enough, I'd purchase them and repair the Cauldron. I recently purchased a whole one a friend found for me. They're beautiful works of the iron founder's skill. My 'new' old cauldron was probably used to render Lard. It's very greasy inside. I'll be using it to scald chickens to ease the plucking.

The good thing about the cold is that there is no thicket, here in Brazil, it is bad in many woods because the bush is 2.5 meters high, with no conditions to pass, and there are not as many coins as there lost, and when has to be of mixed material, the soil ends with them.

I think someone blew up the cooking kettle! Cook must have been terrible! I often wonder what level of disaster the loss of the all in one cook pot would have on an isolated colonial homestead, it would have been a major inconvenience for sure. Great digging nice coins and buttons and that pewter rat tail, that was a prized and very personal possession at one point until it just wore out. As always it’s a pleasure to watch you doing your thing Peace Charlie UK 🇬🇧

Oh..One other observation. Your 2 inner parts to "shoe" buckle-y" things. I believe the larger one is a shoe buckle center and the smaller one is from a knee buckle maybe?...Hard to tell sizes of things sometimes the way I watch these videos on a 50" TV. Large cents look like dinner plates from here.

Congrats on all the finds! That Enfield with the 57 does not mean that it is a .57 cal. What it means is the mold went to a rifle that was last modified in 1857. Same goes with one with a 56 in the base or 58 in the base. The 57 and 58 are the most common Enfield finds. Also Enfield rifles were not exclusive to the Confederate Troops. There were a few Union Troops that were issued Enfield rifles. Great video as always! ;-) Dave

I thought of that also. But then he mentioned the railroad. They had a tool to lift the track. While others pulled and replaced broken ties. Sometime in the mid to late 1800’s and the turn of the century. But I could well be wrong.

@beepseatsfindingfoodtreasu8756
Great find! That adze was for timber framing! Not the usual Carpenters adze it's wider and as you felt considerably heavier. Judging by the shape it's mid 1800's too fancy for colonial days. And the way the handle was shaped looks like the blacksmith was making axe heads and was asked to make it. Pretty unique piece. Thanks for sharing your dig with us Beau. Beeps.

When I worked in Texas in the 90s we had a teenage boy come into the hospital! A few days before he had been mowing a lawn when he felt something brush his right cheek! He brushed his hand over it and didn’t see anything but a scratch. A few days later he had a large what his mother thought was a boil erupt over the same place! Suddenly it broke and hundreds of baby spiders started crawling out! 😳
