Tombac buttons from 1700's and the design I believe is the rising Sun over water, which might have been an image true to their homeland , ie Scotland or Ireland. I really appreciate the work you put into your videos. Keep it up, you are doing the hobby great justice. This is what the community needs, not a single mention of a Patreon account or how you can support my channel. Don't change one single thing, thanks for the video and be well!

Thank you for the information and the suggestion of the design. Thank you for your kinds words, I try my best to keep my channel "real" and base all my actions as a normal detectorist without any pressure from a manufacturer, sponsor or desire to make this into a money making deal turning my videos into sales ad's. This is fun and I'm going to keep it fun. :) Thank you for your support as well as commenting. Take care.

Another great video. I am really surprised how much competition you have there in Ohio to find sites that have NOT been detected before.....maybe I'm just being naive.. Makes me think of the Casablanca saying, in all of the farm fields in Ohio, you have to show up on mine....or something like that. Seriously though, in this video and past one's you take us to places where I would never have thought a detector had ever been to, and yet there has been. I was also thinking, it would have been fun for you to do a side by side comparison hunt with the other guys Minelab, especially since you are thinking about buying one. Probably not in the cards for that day.
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
Thank you. I too and surprised by the detecting pressure here but it's true. I travel a lot between site locations doing surveying each day and I spot a detectorist almost each week. I've ran into two separate detectorists on the actual site I'm detecting during the time I've been making videos of detecting... I hadn't every had that happen during my whole time during the hobby. I'm glad I met the fella that I met during this video... he really enjoys the history and the finds which include everything and not just coins and jewelry. I will someday get another detector and compare, hunt the same patch and give honest opinions about the experience. I don't have a manufacturer telling me what I can and can't say on my channel so what I will say will be honest. Thanks for checking out the video as well as commenting.

Thanks! Yes, those "eye" buttons are really awesome... I was surprised to find two of them. Anything like that which is personal are my favorite finds. Those old "Rich Orange" buttons are a sign of an awesome site dating way back in years. Hopefully you can still get out to that site and check out to see what else is there. Thank you very much. The "Eye" buttons are Tombac buttons and are early 1800's and possibly into the 1700's but I'm not a button expert. Where did you acquire the blue “finds” pouch in the vids ? Is it custom design or modified name brand. I like the all together design and wide open top. Your attention to detail in video and teaching / explanation of why things work is great. I have learned a lot about my MX Sport and MX7 settings. Carry On my friend.
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
I’m glad that you are gaining info on your sport and enjoying the videos. It’s a pleasure sharing what I’m doing when planning as well as when out in the field detecting. The blue pouch is custom made by myself... I’m on the third version with the fourth half way sewn. Eventually I will get these out for sale since there has been an overwhelming interest in them. I made my first pouch through necessity because I couldn’t find a pouch that was very good... then things kinda went from there. I’ve made these to support other RU-vid video makers in the past so I could get feedback on the performance as to improve. The problem I’m running into is time available. I bought an industrial leather sewing machine and have everything ready to go but making one bag takes 6-7 hours and I’m really picky... so it has to be me making the bag to know where the double and triple stitches take place because I’ve experienced the weak points when detecting. It’s kind of a long story... lol... I just want to make them so I know they are done right I guess is the best way to say it. I may do a release of some soon and there would be a video to announce it. You can also email me at squarenailsquirrel @ Gmail so I can remember those who are interested.

LOL... I didn't know what to do at first but decided to just share what I knew. There are a ton of folks around this area that detect and since I've been detecting up here on two sites I've ran into another person detecting. The think I like about this encounter is the fella was nice and really interested in the history. I like it when someone finds something and they are asking about what it is and where it came from instead of how much it's worth... shows great character. Thanks for checking out the video and take care.

Do you know if a preacher lived on this site?
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
I'm not certain on that but I don't believe so.. I was first thinking the site was a school of some sort because of all the buttons but some information I gathered yesterday shows folks by the last name of Lilley obtaining the land from the US government in 1813 and being the first settling landowners. Neither of the two could write because when the hand signed the deed they both just made a mark, an X, to show they signed their name.

The 800 with a 15" coil (Amazing) is only 3.3lbs.. The 3Vi with stock coil is 4.5 lbs. I can swing all day in mud and not have to worry about my shoulder or getting water in the 800. I am planning to lighten the V3i with a carbon box and rods, and your battery mod.

That 75 vdi was such a heart breaker..I thought seated dime for sure. I sold my Nox 600 for the V3i just couldn't get used to the tones or vdi range. You sure have a knack for finding buttons! I'll be honest I might have not dug a few of those.

I was really hoping for something silver on that target but I can see why the machine hit the way it did. I have heard that the Minelab machines take a bit to get used to due to the compressed scale... I'd like to get an equinox eventually. They interest me a lot but I'm not sure if the 800 is worth the money to get two more frequencies although I still have some time to think about it. Haha! So far 2019 has really produced a lot of great buttons so for now.. I guess i'm button King. :) need to turn up some coins soon. Thanks for checking out the video and take care.

I second the Tombac theory mentioned just before me by Garnet...Ok...well...fact, not "theory" rather. Those are no doubt made of Tombac material. A good many of the Tombacs were made with arsenic , the rest contain lead...not much but I wouldn't let a toddler play with them...Impressive video. I subscribed about 2 minutes in. Looking forward to more

@@squarenailsquirrel9638 yea...I had the bright idea to detect at the boat ramp while the lake was down. Thank you for the info... I had tried researching the Masonic order symbols during initial research although I quickly patched into the Providence symbolism. Your spot on in reporting your observation... I really want to try this site many more times due to the age of the site although I have some new sites I need to get to. There is another fellow which was mentioned in the video that has been detecting out there quite a bit and has found some coins since this video was made. I know there is still stuff to find and since the fields will be plowed soon, I’m hoping some items get stirred up. Thanks for checking the video out as well as commenting. Good luck with any hunts you may have coming up soon.

I have a question. When you get a permission how do you work out with the landowner who gets to keep what? Do you give the first pick?
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
Typically large farms like this aren't concerned with the finds. I will meet with the landowners after the hunt is finished and show them what I found and if they take an interest in something I usually give it to them. If it ends up being something like one of the "eye" buttons in this video I just let it go because if that one button which means a lot to them means having a place to return to for years to come.. .then that's very worth it to me. I will have many more chances to find many amazing things doing acts of kindness like this. If the land owners are concerned with the finds then I show them what I find and hope for the best being able to keep at least one of the 5 silvers. LOL. Most people won't take them all and realize you put out a lot of effort to find what you have. Some people really focus on making a deal before doing any detecting although i've never taken this approach. There are other cases where the finds aren't discussed that I have ran into and at the end of the hunt the land owner wants everything... not a great situation but I give it to them. There are tons of personalities out there that you run into while detecting, just hope you don't get too many of the latter.

I found out from other viewers that those are made of Tombac, a metal which is arsenic in it and comes out of the ground in that condition. Comparing the British buttons and the Tombac "eye" buttons.. this is most likely the oldest site I've dug here is Ohio so far. I'm going to hit the site again with the 6" Detech and see what I can pull from the iron debris field.. it's really thick in one spot. I am sooooo..... subscribed to your channel. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of maps and the lay of the land. I live in eastern Ontario Canada and will put your theory into practice. Happy hunting!

LOL... thank you very much and I greatly appreciate it. I gladly share in hopes that folks watching can get the hang of what I'm doing to better their hunt and discover some cool finds. I find the excitement of the adventure exploring the fields trying to locate the house just as much fun as detecting the house after it's been discovered. It's awesome to explain that there used to be a road and houses out in that field to people that spent their whole lives living next to the field not knowing about it. Thank you again for subscribing and thank you for checking out the video.

Thank you and I’m glad you enjoy them. It take quite a bit of work to do these and it’s been a ton of money and pulling my hair out figuring out how to do everything. Lol. It’s all worth it though and i’ll always try to put out good video versus just a bunch of video that’s so-so. Thank you very much for tuning in to check out the video as well as for your kind comments.

Thank you very much. Not a problem man, we both have permission out there and we can work together this year and following years to raise all the history we can as we discover sites out there. Things may look like a clean slate at this point finding the other homes but the angle at which the road turns south my be 200' west or east because the scale of the right of way plans are totally distorted. The house I did find that you visited by the stick.. I really lucked out in pinpointing it fairly quickly on the first hunt. Typically I don't tie down a home site like that until the second or third trip. I am hoping the other houses can be placed quickly since farming activity will start up very soon and then we will be out of business until fall. I will keep you posted on any advancements out there. It was nice meeting you and keep in touch. Thank you for checking out the video and take care.

Thanks and glad that you enjoy what I’m doing. Hopefully it’s helps folks out there with finding cool places to have their own adventures on. This hobby is a lot of fun but the hardest part is figuring out a good place to to detect. Seems to get harder with every year that passes although better machines and out of the box thinking seems to provide opportunity. Thanks for checking my videos out, greatly appreciated.

Great information, vids are great. Question, can you use a standard set of headphones on a pro detector?
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
Thank you and i’m glad that you enjoy them. Dealing with the headphones regular headphones can be used on any machine, there isn’t a difference besides some ranges of what you can hear although in modern day... headphones aren’t as much of an issue as it was 30 years ago... pretty much a 10.00 set of headphones cover about the same as a 100.00 set. The main thing that won’t allow a direct connection is how a set of headphones connects such as by a 1/8, 1/4 or something like apple’s dedicated lightning connection. Just make sure you have a converter or have the cennection that directly works. I’ve used grey ghost brand for years and they are great but there is only an advantage of using them due to the length of the cord, the mono channel and the Limiter switch. Not all machines accept the limited switch or the mono channel switches. Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks for checking the video out and if the above wasn’t clear just message back with further questions.

Thank you.. I'm very happy with the buttons. Seems like this year I'm the button king.. LOL. With each site I go to I leave with lots of buttons although not often do I leave with hand engraved ones like the ones found in this hunt.. very happy about that. :) Looking forward to the hunt you invited me on coming up soon. Thank you checking out the video and talk soon.

@@squarenailsquirrel9638 Im sure, you will have success ) Main clue on beaten fields - is to search in those spots, where is no one can try detecting in sober mind ))) That helps me alot many times. When i came with the map on popular spot, i think - what direction will be most unusual ? And go there. Often that spots is field edges or regions that is highly close to houses etc. And by the way, what Do you think of giving a name for your detector ? I am giving one to mine ) Its just like ancient swords have great names and attract victory on their blades ) Name it and write on it ))) Not so bad idea as it seems )

Thank you and glad that you enjoyed it. Just watch the ground filter settings, depending on your location you may not get away with 7.5 band pass. It's my "go-to" filter which works for me most of the time. If the 7.5 does work for you it requires a slower sweep speed of around 2-2.5 seconds with the full sweep of the coil from one side to the other otherwise it won't be as effective. Good luck with you hunt this weekend and thanks for checking the video out.
