Hi again Tim, glad you got my reply. I did pretty good yesterday, gold in every pan, most small but some good size flakes. I used the shovel for the first time & it worked good, very strong & doesn't come loose when you tighten it down like other folding shovels, the only thing you might not like is the head spade is flat, not curved like other spades, but I was able to shovel out a lot of overburden, it works for me. It was good to get out there again, the American river still has lots of gold, most small, but fun to find, lots of exposed soft bedrock & crevices to work. One of these days I'll come across a nugget hopefully. Thanks, Serg

Question, how come you're not using the whites detector to help discriminate out the hot rock, and using the graph it gives you to determine the metal it is detecting. I have the same model, same head and a Whites GMT as well. Granted I defiantly don't have the best experience metal detecting though. I'm located in Southern Oregon, was wondering where you're at.

Look like a block to hold a steal cable, and all those nails, I'd say there was a wood bridge up stream at one time that's been washed out.
@wildernesseric
@wildernesseric Год назад
I think that's a good guess on the block even though there is not a bridge nearby I suppose it could have floated way down on some wood. The nails appear to be from at least a couple different era's in time. Definitely need to do some exploring around the area to see what I can find when I get some time.

@wildernesseric Год назад
Yes you're right. In fact I did some exploring around the area and found a really old mining camp! I'm going to show it briefly in my next video probably and then scour it with a metal detector later on. I enjoy detecting for relics more than gold detecting because it's more fruitful. I haven't given up on gold detecting though, I'll be back at it.

Pretty sure you will have the same luck with a gold bug or other detectors like the goldmonster. I have had the same issue's whenever I've been out in northern California with my goldmonster. As a rule of thumb I just start panning or sluicing wherever I find a bunch of iron now. There or here in the midwest. As for that big piece of iron...no idea. The small piece was cool. I thought a warn down lighter striker, but its too shiny. Maybe some kind of jewelry. Is it magnetic? Look's like some kind of precious metal.
@wildernesseric
@wildernesseric Год назад
That's what I'm guessing about the detectors. I've only used VLF detectors and have not tried a pulse induction detector yet, hoping to get my hands on one to test as they work differently. Another viewer seemed to think the small piece as part of a fishing lure, I thought it looked kind of like a body piercing stud. It's not even slightly magnetic.

@wildernesseric
@wildernesseric Год назад
Yeah, I tried to look it up after that but couldn't find any information on how old it could be. It definitely looks old fashioned as no modern tire weights look like that. I'm finding square nails and round nails so I'm thinking maybe there is stuff from the 1800's mining days and the 1930's. Either way it was a long time ago because nothing is left but wilderness and pieces of metal.

I've tried all 3 modes and get the same results. I did some testing and put a small nugget in with some black sand. The nugget reads as a hot rock because of all the mineralization(black sand) around it. I think this is the main reason I'm not finding nuggets with the detector, and there are way too many actual hot rocks to dig all the "hot rock" targets. I'm gonna have to try a few different types of detectors and see if I can find one that will work in this area.
