The amount of times we play with the thought of it being our last visit to a field but always end up venturing back just incase. You'll have that permission for life Gareth keep doing what you do matey👍🏻
Hi mate, I totally agree with your comments, but when you have detected a place 70+ times and your not finding anything exciting, its kinda time to spend what precious little detecting time I have on other more fruitful areas. I aint getting any younger and have such little time, so have to concentrate on new areas and new permissions
Finally got to watch this video. A plentiful field of smaller finds. A gorgeous field to hunt on. The coins finds were definitely varied. See you on the next, Gareth. Enjoy your week ahead!
Hi Martin, I just got your email. I'm about to leave work to head home. I will be going for a run, then straight to the cinema with a couple of work friends. I shall reply to your email as soon as I get chance. Hope you are OK buddy
Helloo, I agree, no place is ever hunted out, but when you've been to the same place so many times and not found anything exciting for a few years, it feels like time to concentrate my efforts elsewhere. Maybe I will drop in an annual visit here still :)
Hi there, thanks so much for visiting my channel and for taking time out of your day to watch this video, I really appreciate it. I work really hard on my channel and the content I upload, it makes me very happy to see people are watching and leaving me comments. It inspires me to continue doing what I do. If you haven’t already, then I would recommend you watch this video next which shows 2 of my best ever gold finds found on consecutive weekends on the same field: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VasQozqHfyo.htmlsi=lsoIIZsz_q2_wYmW Metal detecting is definitely a unique hobby, and if you have plenty of time on your hands and a love for history, then yes it can be appealing :) Thanks again, and I very much hope to see you on some of my 300 other metal detecting videos on my channel. Gareth
Hi Nick, ahh yes, that is the word I was looking for "sprue". My memory is dreadful and I can never remember anything haha. Thanks as always for the channel visit and hope to see you on my next episode
A wild and wonderful landscape, with expansive fields of trees & pasture….targets still there & will always be. Great seeing you as always Gaz mate, looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks. Ps, no such thing as a friendly Llama!🦙
Hi Marcus, thanks as always for coming. This location would be available for our weekend if you wanted to go there, but its a well hunted out place and difficult to find silver! But as I'm sure you know I have had 2 dream gold finds from there and people keep telling me there will be more! Not seen or heard much from you on RU-vid recently, hope all is OK? x
Great to see you Gareth and hope you're well. Very much enjoyed. It is a beautiful place and it's easy to see how much you love it. Another brilliant short story adventure. Couple of nice bits too 🙂
Hi mate, yeah all good here thanks, yourself? You are right this place is special to me, but it is time to move on I think, maybe drop in a couple of annual token visits. Thanks as always for the visit. G
As you said Gareth a field is never done, that buckle was a lovely find for sure with the crown on and the medieval token. The drone footage was superb while you were having your lunch. Well called on the pound coin. Until the next one take care.
Hi John, it has been a great permission over the years, but with upwards of over 70 visits, I believe it is time to move on. In fact I saw 2 other detectorists on the fields during this day, they had not found much at all, and I wouldn't expect them to as I've done such a job on that place. BUT of course there is still stuff there clearly :) Thanks as always for coming along
Still some decent finds and such a beautiful place to detect. There are still plenty of finds as you have a better machine and it will get what you must have missed. You also had some great drone shots.
Hi Dave, as always thanks for your positive feedback. It is a great place and a place that holds special memories. I have done this place to death, but still I am making finds here. I'll still visit now and again, maybe a couple times per year. Maybe I should arrange a group dig with the landowner to clean up everything else I've missed
Great hunt again, some great finds, a tone of coins, you can't ask for much more on a field you've done over and over again. Hope you and the family are well, keep it up as always
Hi Sam, yeah I have hammered this place beyond recognition, still make finds. But time to find pastures new (literally). Thanks as always for tuning in
Hi guys, thanks so much for the channel visit. I do enjoy sharing my videos from this place, it is an amazing place and a beautiful place with some great memories. Thanks again. G
Great video and it's good to see you out on the beautiful George Hall grounds. I'd have probably got a soaking as I never know when to stop 😊 still plenty of finds I'm sure you'll find some silver soon ❤
Hi Stephen, cheers buddy, this place will always be a special place for me, but time to find myself a new hall ground that will give me many more years of joy, and hopefully some more gold finds. A little birdie tells me you found a bronze age axe head recently? Congratulations to you mate, top bucket lister!!
Hi Troy, yes mate, was good to be back there, but I'm not a fan of the lamas and their pathetic appetites, the grass was long and tufty. The cows used to do a much better job !! Thanks as always for tuning in
good to see you out Gareth ,as you no a field is never done i love that buckle with the crown on top and the token with the cross and lots of coins well done thanks again cheers
Hi James, cheers mate, ye was good to get back up there, but I genuinely feel like my time there is done. Maybe a once per year visit in deepest darkest winter. Still shocked I've never found a single hammered up there in 70+ visits !!
Hi Mark, thanks as always for tuning in and taking time out your day to watch. Yeah am sure there will always be stuff to find on there, but I feel like my time there is done. Who knows, we'll see what happens.. Thank you for your kind words, I will catch you on my next episode. G
There's a couple places I kept going back to because I refused to believe it was over and there was nothing left to be found. Good luck on the next hunt there!
Hi Jacob, as always thanks for tuning in. I often wonder at what point do you completely stop metal detecting on your favourite land? As with anything in life, all good things have to come to an end sooner or later. If this permission got deep ploughed, I'd be very interested in hitting hard again to see if it brings up some more stuff. Never gonna happen though
Hi Ryan, yeah it sure is a beautiful place and I reckon I've filmed 40 odd videos up here and had a couple of dream finds. But after 70 visits I believe my time here is almost done. Maybe a couple of annual token visits. Thanks for the channel visit
That was a great hunt, I particularly love the crown buckle. Remember, we get better each year if we detect a lot. Also, a property that big, the very best detectorist is bound to miss relics and coins each trip. Keep after it man!
Hi there, yes I agree, we do improve and perhaps become less picky on signals on a well hunted place. But I just feel like I have found the best things that were here including 2 amazing gold finds. I am not getting nay younger and feel the need to spend my precious metal detecting time at other locations
@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire I turn 70 this week, and still hit it hard, of course I train hard to stay fit enough to dig all day. Keep fit, and God willing, you will be digging many years as well. Anyway, years back I had a permission to dig an old Militia training ground here is the US. But it was only 4 acres. It was my best spot ever, yielding Spanish silver, English King Georges (1, 2 and 3's ), US Federal coins, hundreds of buttons, some shoe buckles, and 10 coins they call the 30-year coin, American silver 3 cent piece or Trime. My point is, hunt it until the finds dry up, that little Militia field took me 3 years and about 100 trips in that time until it gave up no more. Keep hunting the Georgian Manor, there is more gold there ................... !
Hi buddy how are you doin? Apologies for the slow reply, I have hundreds and hundreds of comments to work through, but as always I reply to all. Hope all is well
Hi mate, thanks for your comments, much appreciated. I seem to spend longer and longer editing these videos that it takes me around 2 weeks to complete each episode. I don't have enough time currently to do all the things I want to do. But I keep trying
Glad you got some nice weather in the day Gareth. Congrats on that crown buckle. Ripper find. You did well on the coins. There will still be more stuff to find for years to come. Take care mate 🦘🦘😁👍
Hi Andrew, I have no doubt there is still cool stuff to find here, but I just get the feeling my time here is done and I should concentrate on other areas and other permissions. Perhaps I will visit here once or twice a year going forwards. As always thanks for coming along
So. It's very hard to find hammered coins in fields like this, because of the amount of rain. A HUGE thing to remember is the grass in fields like this breaking down each year easily adds inches of soil per decade. Brutal truth about this combo.
Hi Jake, thanks so much for visiting my channel, for watching this video and for your feedback. You are right there, and due to lack of ploughing, these old finds simply sink deeper and deeper underground due to gravity. It doe snot take long for mother earth to consume the things we drop. If you place a tennis ball on your back lawn and leave it, within a couple of weeks the grass will start to consume it. Leave it there for a few months and it will probably be gone. Gotta love physics. Thanks again
Hello, thanks for visiting my channel and for watching this video. It would be awesome to be able to find gold in UK streams, but I very much doubt anything could be found here in Derbyshire. Would probably find lots of lead though :)
@@rastaralph7154 wow thats awesome, in what part of England? I love the idea of prospecting for gold. I sometimes watch Dan Hurd on RU-vid, his videos are so interesting
@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire I'm in Northumberland. I'll tell you a great channel to watch that will give you gold fever. Tassie boys prospecting. He finds ounces sniping and detecting in Tasmania 👍 I'm a bit too ill to do as much as I used to but if your ever up this way I can take you to find your own gold with my knowledge and experience 💚💛❤️
Thanks Gary, another silver-less session! However I can confirm in the last few weeks I've bagged 2 new permissions and bagged half a dozen or so silvers :) Thanks as always for watching
Hi mate , we all know a place is never hunted out it just gets harder to find anything good as the months and years roll on but as you did we still manage to weedle something out and that's because of all the time and hard work we put into it , i think the buckle was the best find mind you i do like a good buckle ATB Rob .
Hi mate, I totally agree that a place is never totally hunted out. But after 70+ visits, I feel like the best finds here have been made and time to concentrate on pastures new. There are 2 other guys with permission here now, I bumped into them on this day. I told them where the hotspots are and showed them pictures of my gold finds from here, they were blown away. Might drop in a token annual visit as it is such a wonderful location. Thanks as always for the visit. G
Hi there, thanks so much for visiting my channel, watching this video and for your really kind comments. Nice to hear from a fellow D2 user, I hope this machine has found you lots of amazing things down under !! Hope to see you on some of my 300 other metal detecting videos
Hi again, thank you for visiting my channel and watching another of my episodes. Been really struggling to find the time to edit my videos recently, hence why I have been uploading less content. Trying to complete my next episode this week :)
Hi mate, all good things come to an end, been in this hobby 10 years now. Its all starting to become a bit of a chore at the moment with the enormous amounts of time I spend on editing, and all for a couple thousand views at best. Found myself wanting to spend my precious free time with my family rather than in a field finding naff all
Hi buddy, thanks so much for watching my latest episode. Its been a struggle for me in recent months trying to find the time required to film and edit these videos. It takes me so long to edit a video. It doesn't help that I've taken up running after work 3 or 4 times a day after work, which tires me out and I never want to edit afterwards. I've also started playing on my xbox again on a Friday night. So all my editing is done on my lunchbreak at work. Hence why it is taking me 2 weeks to complete a project
Morning, I know it does right, this place used to be so magical though with short velvet like grass. Seems to be much longer and clumpy now and new fences all over the place to house the lamas. Also, I bumped into 2 other guys detecting, one of which works for the landowner. So I almost feel like its time for me to move on and let them see what they can find. I even showed them what I had found on the day, showed them photos of my best finds there and told them where the hot spots were. They were so impressed!! Maybe I will visit once or twice a year purely to remenis. Thanks as always for watching
Hi mate, as always thanks for tuning in and taking time out your day to watch. Thanks, I enjoyed making it :) I hope to catch you on my next episode. G
Absolutely love these vids. Thank you for enduring the elements to create such magical content. Don't laugh (as my question is grade 1 amateur fare). I can understand how on ploughed fields why Queen Elizabeth II coins can be discovered at a spade's depth or more due to soil disturbance, but on seemingly unploughed fields, some more historically recent coins manage to become buried quite a depth below ground level? My uneducated guess was the soil conditions allowing metal coins to sink through the layers ect...Decided it best not to guess and ask a guy who'd know.
Hi, thanks for your kind words and thanks for the support. That is a great question and something that fascinates me. If you drop anything on a grass field, it only takes a few weeks for the grass to grow around it, then the item becomes pulled under ground by the roots of the grass. Depending on the type of soil, gravity works it magic and the item slowly sinks over time. Worms, moles and various other things can also affect this. I have found ancient finds only a few inches deep, but then on the same field, modern coins 7 or 8 inches deep. Thanks again for watching
Hey Bobby, thanks for your kind words, always appreciate you taking time out your day to watch what I upload to RU-vid. I'll be back here again in deepest darkest winter
I was out today myself I keep finding spoons lol but I did find a few coins oldest was a big old 50p , I had fun out in the sun.i see you got a meal deal , excellent finds btw ..
Hi mate, long time no see, I thought you had packed up and disappeared off RU-vid! Just had a nosey of your channel and seen you have some recent gold panning videos. Awesome, I'll have a watch when I get chance. Imagine if Britains waterways were jam packed full of gold nuggets, we'd all be loaded !!
@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire cheers mate appreciate it, yeah been a while but hoping to get the ability to get out more and hopefully with a detector as well 🤞
I know right, probably 18 months since my last visit, amazing how much can change in that amount of time. Such an amazing location, although a little bit annoying now with all that fencing and the lamas
Hello Jillian, as always I thank you for taking time out of your day to watch my latest upload :) I appreciate it very much, hope to see you on my next episode

Cheers for the entertainment Gareth as always a great vid! Big game tomorrow as you know and believe it or not I actually want Arsenal to win! Good luck to you and good luck Arsenal! 😊
Hi Stewart, apologies for the slow reply, it takes me a long time to reply to every awesome person that leaves me a comment. Arsenal have had several big games since you wrote this comment and come through all of them :) Just need Spurs to do us a massive favour tonight
@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire Tonight Gareth unlike all of my Tottenham mates I want a Tottenham win! They don't want Arsenal to win the Premiership because they prefer Man City I can't understand why they think like that!
Hello, thanks so much for visiting my channel and watching this video. I really appreciate you coming along and for leaving me a comment. I hope to see you again soon :)
Ended up being a really nice day plus you found a handful of nice old coins and musket balls. How do you think all those coins ended up way out there anyway? Mike in sunny Florida
Hi Mike, yeah it did turn out OK to be fair and its such a beautiful place to spend time. There has been 1,000 years of habitation on this land and huge amounts of activity in Georgian era times (1700's - 1820's). A lot of people have spent a lot of time working this land and traveling through this land on the old footpaths. I would expect there to be thousands more targets there, most of which will be too deep to detect. If this place got deep ploughed I'd be all over it !! Thanks as always for watching
Hello, thanks for visiting my channel and thanks for taking time out your day to watch this video. I too feel sorry for the worms, but did you know there are more worms on planet Earth than any other species? And I believe if a worm is chopped in half, they do not die, they re-grow as 2 worms..
Hi mate, that's a great question. I've been using the D2 now for getting on for 3 years I think. I've used every version of Firmware. I tried 1.0 and 1.1 but the machine was suffering from false signals, chirping and giving good signals for pieces of iron. When I took it back to 0.71 I could not believe the difference. For me on the land that I detect (clean pasture) 0.71 is the correct Firmware choice. Although coincidentally when I tried one of the newer versions I found that Edward VII Sovereign haha, but I would have found that with any version
Hey up 🖐️ sorry for late reply been busy with work ,Yea doing good buddy not been out for a couple of weeks been doing the “WIFES” to do list 🤣🤣 got myself a 13” coil not used one before so gagging to get out hopefully out Sunday for few ours so 🤞 all the best buddy 👍

A lesson in persistence mate .But I am not too amazed by it as done the same thing myself .Bet there is still even more on there and a hammered somewhere too .great vid as ever .
Hi mate, yes it turned out OK, but as always it would have been nice to bag a bit of silver. This place is almost impossible to find silver on and never found silver hammered in 70+ visits, how bizarre is that???
hi 👋 duke (is it okay if i call u that) i just got my first metal detector 3 days ago and u are one of the reasons i did. i haven’t found a ton, the coolest things would probably be a morgan dollar(it is in good condition and is detailed with list of mint luster PLUS it has no mint mark and it’s from 1887, which i think is good for a beginner, i freaked out about it.)although it has some rust on one corner) and a pretty big full on bullet! (i wonder what gun it’s from?)i did it where i live in temecula, california which has a LOT of rich history! but one of the problems i kept having was rock hard dirt that i kept running into, which probably formed because it’s always so hot out.:( and i had to look for green grass because the dirt is softer, which i felt a bit bad about digging. luckily it is normal to do so i should get used to it. i did dig in a circle and put it back nicely so hopefully it’s not damaged. anyways that’s it about the finds. i’ll try to comment in some of your videos more about my finds, maybe i should start a channel when i’m more experienced, although i might need to learn how to make my videos engaging for metal detectors if they watch it. but it might be a bit slow because i’m only 13 and i can’t drive to places. i do have some farm fields next to my house i could ask the owners to dig! thanks for reading if you did 😁
my iphone 13 is not letting me write more… so i’m gonna do it here. i just was gonna say i sent the morgan dollar to global certification services, inc. i’ll upload a youtube short of it when it comes back and i’ll try to comment about it here if that’s fine with u. again, thanks for reading.:))😃
Hi there, thanks very much for taking time out your day to visit my channel, watch this video and leave me such a well written comment. Wow 3 days in the hobby and you find a Morgan Dollar?!?!? @@TheDukesOfDerbyshire thanks for replying! i completely forgot about uploading the video but it did come back from grading so i will do it when i get the chance. soon i should be going to this old abandoned school house from the early 1900s to detect. plus its next to a lake so i can do it on the shore there too.
