Hello Everyone!!
I'm back, and this time with a WW2 Metal detecting video!
It's been a long time, and I know a lot of you have been waiting for another detecting video, so here it is!
We were invited by Mike to do some Metal Detecting on the famous 101st Airborne Drop Zones of Operation Market Garden ( Netherlands / Holland )
We found some really interesting stuff, and especially on a location like this, it's priceless!
We had a good time, and what a great experience it was.. Visiting a location like this gives you a feeling you can't describe!

My great uncle went into market garden as a British Paratrooper, I’m not sure if it was in a glider or parachute but I know he was a different man when he returned according to my mother! He saved a Welshman who was injured by swimming the Rhine with him on his back, brave men who should never be forgotten! His name was les Blackman.🇬🇧

Thank you for these videos! My great Uncle was killed during Operation Varsity in a glider. Seeing this and getting a little understanding of what he went through is sobering. He is buried in Margraten Cemetery. I was blessed to be able to visit his grave and meet the family that watches over him. The people of the Netherlands have a special place in my heart. Thank you again!

Definitely go back if you get the chance. You did a good job of describing things and putting them in historical context. The melted coin might be a Canadian quarter. The word CANADA is along the rim above a moose head for that time period. There were Canadians involved in Market Garden on loan to the British and even a few in the 1st Airborne. Hard to tell for sure with the melting, but I couldn't find any British or American coins with those letters.

At 24:57: The item you are looking at is a turn-buckle adjustment fitting for 2 ends of a cable to adjust the tension. they are normally used to adjust flight control cables in an aircraft.

I still think its weird that you would check out a Minecraft stream, but what made me even more confused was that you talked on your main account. usually my brother changes his account when he's doing other stuff so nobody is sitting in chat wondering why a verified beat producer is on a live stream about whatever he watches these days... just wanted to clear that up.

Yeah I just like to chill on YT sometimes and talk with people in live streams, it's fun :) And I understand it's weird seeing a History RU-vidr in a Minecraft stream.. But the thing is, I've been playing minecraft too when it was just brand new, and before you know it, you are 26.. But still like minecraft ;)

The item that you didn’t know what it was is a turnbuckle used to connect 2 cables together and tighten to a designed tension on the cables looks like the one’s used on aircraft flight control cables. I am a licensed aircraft mechanic with 42 years experience. Wonderful video

The footage of the plane crashing, you can see paratroopers pulling their chutes @21:49 & 21:51 just before the plane explodes into the ground. Imagine how lucky they were and how unlucky their buddies still inside were.

@@dannyengineer9862 Watch the shops from the east countries. Like Bulgaria. There are selling a german helmet for 150 euro, or medic uniform for 35 euro. It is cheaper then west Europe.

It makes me both incredibly happy/appreciative, but also very sad at the same time, that you have more respect, appreciation, and reverence for the Americans who made those jumps and gave everything they had to help save the world from a madman, than American citizens who take what they have available to them for granted. Again, thank you for what you're doing and for the respect you pay to these artifacts that represent those courageous soldiers.

In England we sometimes have markets on fields and stuff. If we are lucky we sometimes have planes from ww1 and ww2. Last time we had a hurrican a spitfire and a Dakota.

I believe a friend of my Dad took part in this. That friends name was Peter Macphee. Peter lived close to the township of Linicro where Dad was born. This is on the North end of the Isle of Skye Scotland. Peter survived WW2. He first saw action in Italy, then D-Day followed by Market Garden.

The piece of metal that you have in your hand at the 25 min mark that you think is ripcord material is from the crashed aircraft....The aircraft is a DC3...The "thing" is called a TURNBARREL...IT has tread cut in at both ends...the side with the groove around it has left hand thread while the other side is normal thread..it is used to attach 2 cables together. The hole in the middle is to turn it and wind the treads in to tension the cable to a preset value...By the size of it I would guys it's from the trim system or engine control cables...I did my trade test on the DC3...Those turnbarrels are still used today and made of brass.

I have a pair of those "Mae West" life jackets that belonged to my parents. Last time I tried them, about 30 - 40 years back, they still inflated properly. Some of the powder from the U.S. Civil War, 170 years old still burns just fine One man was killed when an artillery shell of that period exploded while being disarmed. 25:39 is a lead cell jumper from a lead acid battery. likely from a jeep, or it could have been from a radio in a glider or airplane. Great finds.

@25:04 is a handle for a cleaning rod,from a rifle cleaning kit,the rod sections would screw together and the handle would screw onto one end of the assembled rod,a bore brush or patch eye would screw into the other end. At 25:46 is part of a lead acid battery,it bridged the cells to increase the voltage

There were Canadian troops who served in the British 1st Airborne division under the CANLOAN system as they had a surplus of officers and the British were short of them. Flew into Arnhem in gliders where they would have been sitting ducks. Polish airborne were also involved as in A Bridge Too Far and suffered very high losses. Gene Hackman played their commander in the movie.

This is incredibly interesting. You may find it interesting that, in the 1960's, the airline KLM was doing aerial surveys of the areas involved with the glider landings. They were astonished when they observed that the outlines of the gliders were still visible from the air some twenty years after the battle. I'm still looking for the photo I saw in the book I found it in originally.

The handle you are around 25:15 is a handle from a M1 Garand cleaning kit. A rod screws into the middle of the handle to clean the bore. Great vid. Keep up the good work. From the good ole USA.

I just replied to a comment of yours on another channel. This is cool to watch. My Dad and Uncles fought in WW2. My Dad was nearly 60 when I was born and died when I was 6 so I never got a chance to talk to him about the war. One of my Uncles told me a lot before he died a few years ago.

The thing at 25:57 is a lever for a bowden cable to pull on a shaft. One end is slotted for the bowden cable, the other end has two flat sides to engage with flats on the shaft to be rotated.

It seems like cordite stays good no matter what the situation might be. Even from the British ships that were sunk in the Gallipoli campaign. There's a documentary here on YT about the campaign, and they dove down to the wrecks. There were bales of cordite lying all over the decks, (for the ship's guns), they brought up a handful of it just to see if it would still light off. It seems they had no problems at all in making it happen. Apparently cordite is immune to deterioration under all sorts of different conditions, it seems that it will even ignite after a century of being openly submerged, as the sticks of cordite they brought up & lighted flared up nicely, then the cordite sticks that were lit were tossed overboard, and were still burning on their way back down
