Metal gear is basically where sneaking elements in games started. Also probably the best story in a game ever. Super underrated even though it’s popular. Metal gear solid 1 is the best place to start
Metal Gear Solid 1,2,3 and 5 are available on ps5, do them in that order, you will see the gameplay improve gradually, (MGS 3 and his remake delta are the first in the chronology).

MGS 3 is an origin story about Big Boss, the antagonist of Metal Gear 1 and 2 on the MSX. The story is easier to follow and more grounded than the others so you can get in and enjoy it without knowing anything about Metal Gear save for some Easter eggs. You can get it as part of the Metal Gear collection vol 1 on PS5 now.

Get the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection for PS5. You can skip Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2. (They are the really old Nintendo versions) Start with Metal Gear Solid. Then Metal Gear Solid 2. And finally Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (prequel to everything)
The woman in the trailer is called The Boss. She’s the leader of the Cobra Unit Snake goes up against in the game. (there’s around 5 of them). She trained Snake until she switched sides (she’s pretty badass in the game). Snake is essentially tasked with k*lling her. MGS3 is arguably the best PS2 game, so I hope they get this right.
Bro u need to play this game As a kid this is all me and my brother and friends played...and I'm 36 lol first game I played of this series was metal gear solid for the original Playstation u would have to start there...Straight Classic!
You should start with metal gear solid V, it’s the most accessible in terms of gameplay and it’s still pretty early in the metal gear solid timeline. It’s usually on sale on the PlayStation store.
Tyrone, I played the original game on the Playstation 2 and for me this is the best game in the franchise, the Remake looks incredible too, even for you to know
if you want to get into the story I suggest starting with the metal gear solid master collection vol 1. some of those games were on the ps1, ps2, and the snes so the controls are kinda...... primitive. but it goes mgs1, mgs2, mgs3, mgs4 , mgs peace waler , mgs ground zeroes and mgs v the phantom pain. That's The Boss the mother of a Special forces. Tyrone you got to Start with this or Metal Gear Solid 3 they're technically the same game. But they're canonically first in the franchise.
If you want to play in chronological order in terms of canon I’d recommend playing in the following order: The MGS 3 remake (delta) as seen here MGS5 RU-vid or wiki story line of MGS1 (unfortunately they don’t have a playable version of this game that I’d think you like; it was originally released on PS1 and they really only have this game with PS1 graphics; they did a remake for GameCube called twin snakes a while back; maybe they have that remake in PS store?) MGS 2 remaster MGS4 If you want to play in order of games that were released real time then just google release years and play them that way. Good luck!
Yo Tyrone I gotchu if ya wanna get into the series there's an MGS 5 deluxe edition containing Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain as well as a recently released master collection with Metal Gear Solid 1-3 and even the OG NES Metal Gear titles. In terms of which one to play first you probably MGS 1 or 3 but u can even play 2 or 5 first because u technically play as Solid Snake for the majority of 2 and there's a reason for 5 but then I'll be getting into spoilers
Man I cant wait for this. Mgs3 is one of the greatest games ever made and the remake looks faithful while also updating the gameplay. Looks like it'll play similar to MGS5. Also bro check out the live gameplay demo for Phantom Blade 0. They showed off the combat and 3 different boss fights.
I can hear they’re using the same voice over work 1:1. The visuals and gameplay though are amazing, and I hope they go through all of MGS in order with these new visuals. Edit: This is a perfect place to start, since it’s the beginning of the Metal Gear Solid timeline. If you want to play the older games, then pick up the volume 1 collection.
I think you can actually play this game first to start your MGS dive. I think this is chronologically the oldest story of the franchise. This game introduces a lot of the established characters. This is a remake/remaster of MSG 3.
They recently released the 'Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1' that they recently released the first 3 games, I think it wasn't that great at launch but from what I've seen they fixed it and keep updating it so I think that's probably the best way to get into it. Although this remake is for the third game so when you finish the first two games in the collection it's up to you if you wanna play the third one 'Snake Eater' or wait for this remake. Also I'm exactly the same I absolutely love stealth games and stealth sections in games!
Maybe start with the OG snake eater (it’s on the master collection for PS5) to get you hyped. It’s the best place to start story wise in my opinion. MGSV is def the vibe if you are going for gameplay!
I envy you because you will enjoy an experience that you will not forget in all respects. The story is the dynamic combat, stealth and boss fights. If you want a complete experience, start with this part first, then complete the rest of the parts in sequence.
If you want to play the series in the times it released I recommend starting at Metal gear and work through towards Metal Gear Solid V now if you want to play the series in chronological order then I recommend the original Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater or the new Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater as a start of the series
the boss looks like some timid 30yr old lol. doesn't look intimidating at all and she's supposedly able to smack snake around for most of the game till the end. her design is the only thing i didn't really like. was at least hoping she'd be more buff and more imposing looking. ah well.
One of the best game series of all time!! You can either get the PS5 Master Collection or start with this one and wait until the other remakes are released.
Fun fact: Metal Gear Solid 3 ( which is being remade as ' Delta ' here ) is the first game in the chronological order of the franchise. So, my bet is that, if this game does good, we could be looking at more remakes of the MGS games in chronological order.
Master Collection is definitely the best way to start. Not only do you get to see the 3 games in the series that made it massively popular, you also get to play them in release order which is how they were meant to be played. But, if you really don't want to play PS1/PS2 games, you could always wait for this remake to come out since it is the beginning of the MGS timeline.
