Miku, the Rhythm guitarist, is the one responsible for bringing the band together, it was her vision to form a Rock band - dressed as Maids so as to contrast their appearance with the hard rock music they would be playing. The Maid idea came about because Miku was working in a Maid Cafe to supplement her income from singing. Band Maid are not a Studio created band. Miku may look very cute and angelic and sound so, but she is definitely all Alpha (if that is not too crass to say). Being very confident and very driven both on and off stage Miku is more often than not the band member to take the lead during the bands promotional interviews - but not taking over if you know what I mean. Originally the lead singer she realised her voice wasn't 'rock' enough and so they decided to bring Saiki in as lead singer. At this point it was felt by Akane 'Drums' that the addition of a Rhythm guitar to their mix would improve their sound and so Misa was taught by Kanami the Lead Guitarist how to play Rhythm guitar. Akane (Drums), Misa (Bass) and Akane (Lead Guitar) all received formal training from a very young age, so don't be too hard on Miku who for all intents and purposes had to learn Rhythm guitar live on stage and is now quite an accomplished guitarist in her own right. This band never fails to make me smile and I have yet to hear a song I don't like which if you knew me you'd know that is quite an achievment.
The band gave her solos early on as well as she was still learning guitar, making sure she got a chance to be in the spotlight. The fact the band did that for her shows they love what they are doing together. The supporting vocals are great and and the Rhythm guitar frees up the bass. Akane knew what she was saying with the Rhythm guitar.
One of the best live bands i have ever have ever seen. Caught them in LA last September. I have been to over 300 shows starting with the Seeds and the Doors in October 1966 and my last show was Aftershock here in Sacramento with Tool, Korn and Babymetal. The only show I would rate better was Jimi Hendrix at CalExpo in 1970. No shit this band is that damn good. Anything you come across from Line Cube Shibuya 14 Feb 2020 is the new standard in Band-Maid concert footage. And I am sure that will be exceeded at Budokan next year. Sacramento loves Band-Maid!
Boomers were good for something :D. Grew up in Detroit in the 50's listening to Little Richard and Jerry Lee, my first show as a teen was Little Stevie Wonder and the Supremes 1963.
@@TomClark-Futoura l saw the Dead 36 times. You have to realize SF had a killer act somewhere seven nights a week between 66-76 or until when the Winterland shut its doors. I have significant high frequency hearing loss. Hands down the loudest band was The Jefferson Airplane. They set their amps at 11.
Welcome aboard, Timotato. You are embarking on (along with many others) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of rock n’ rollers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (nearly 100 songs with new album, “Conqueror”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uds7g3M-4lQ.html Their later songs drive even more - Rin’ne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series! And many are represented with over 25 well produced music videos. ru-vid.com Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (sample “Domination” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QbyQCJn6rYg.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-__1th7ctgMo.html, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4uIYBkAybCI.html, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-usWZvlGGDSs.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.). Saiki Atsumi “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience. Miku Kobato "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 28 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!! Kanami Tono “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 28 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party! MISA "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
And more or less play their songs end to end with a shortish intermission which usually involves Miku or other band members remaining on stage to keep the audience involved.
BabyMetal sing and dance with a band...Band Maid IS the band! Unusual song choice for a first reaction, then again most of their songs rock! They're one of those rare bands that really shine LIVE, with extra solo's and battles!
I recommend *_Puzzle_* A lot of their HD Live clips get taken down and then re-upped, so end up with low view counts, hence harder to find the good ones!! I have a playlist on my channel if you gonna react to more...Chur from NZL.

As a Japanese it's funny to me most reactions to Band-maid refer to BABYMETAL and all the members are female. No Japanese think of BABYMETAL in association with BAND-MAID. They seem totally different in appearance and music. No Japanese doubt female musicians performance because more and more girls bands come to the stage and show their talent. I hope people enjoy just music genuinely. Of course, their cuteness too because they are so kawaii.
I'm so glad I've discovered Band-Maid and BABYMETAL and some other japanese bands like Ironbunny or specially Ningen Isu. There's suge a huge sectrum of very good bands AND Idol-Bands-it's awesome! Keep on going, Nippon!!!
Two different genres and acts. Babymetal could be a Vegas floor show. Or a Vegas residency. Band-Maid is a rock band in the more conventional sense writing, arranging and performing the own original music. I saw Babymetal and l liked the show alright. Band-Maid is a quasi religious experience.
LOVE that you started with the non-fiction days. It is such a great song that gets buried under some of the popular songs for reactions. This song is a complete showcase of the maids in all their glory.
Love Band Maid. Only found out about them last summer and was lucky enough to catch their show in NYC. Miku (rhythm guitar) started the band and was supposed to be lead singer, but didn't think her voice was strong enough to sing the songs they wanted to play, so they recruited Saiki for vocals. Miku found Kanami (lead guitar) on youtube. Kanami is also Miku's guitar teacher. Kanami knew Akane (drummer) from playing together in some backing bands, and Akane knew MISA (bass) from going to the same music school. Anyway you should check out there song "Domination" from their World Domination tour. Their are extended solos in that one. Even Akane get a drum solos, she is so good. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QbyQCJn6rYg.html
This was the last song of the concert, over 2 hours of pure energy. They absolutely give you money's worth. And they are all very nice ladies. Rhythm g's sound is lower because (the reason) Miku started guitar from 2014 and Kanami (lead g) is her teacher. So, Miku has gotten a lot better but the sound engineers have been keeping her sound slightly lower than Kanami's. But, it's getting better. Their most current live videos show they keep Miku's sound higher now. Oh, and Kanami is a genius; she took guitar during her junior high years - but she's been educated in piano since the age of 4~5ish. She composes all of their songs. Miku writes all of their lyrics.
Interesting tidbit. The official promotional video for this song was filmed in late Feb/early March in 2016. The filming was done on a beach south of Tokyo, and it was in the 30's and windy that day. The filming had daytime and night time elements, so they were there all day. It was, by all reports, freezing. If you dig around the band's social media pages, you can find photos of the ladies huddling around in ankle length parkas between shots. There is pyro in the night time shots. In one comment, one of the band members (I believe it was the guitarist, Kanami) said that they were constantly being told to not get too close to the flame projectors, but said it was hard because it was so freezing cold, and it warmed up near the flames. During the course of the day, while huddling around a space heater, the drummer's parka started smoldering. Below is an article about the PV filming that includes some photos from behind the scenes: j-generation.com/2016/04/band-maid-the-non-fiction-days-mv/
Dude, you’re going to love them... Continue your journey with “Blooming”, “Domination” (live version), DICE, Secret my Lips, Play (live), Moratorium (live), Freedom (live), and then Onset at Zeppelin Tokyo.... after that continue to wander their musical landscape.
Impressed that you were able to pick up on Kanami’s rig! Absolutely correct, PRS and Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier! Same amp as Pat O’Brien of Cannibal Corpse! 🤣 I love that little similarity.💪🏻🤘🏻
Band Maid really took me by suprise, I love the unexpected. I'm usually kind of a prog snob but I love a lot of pop sensibilities too. Best when technical and accessible meet. Hey man would love to see you check out Sleep Token if you haven't heard of them. Very well composed fusion of genres. "Higher" gives a lot of oomph but "Calcutta" let's the music really breathe more if you prefer
Please more Bando-Maid, try Domination live or Onset. Actually there's more better band than Jinjer, try Mergingmoon and Broken by the Scream, you'll see /,,/
I definitely subbed since this is your first reaction to BAND-MAID. There will be more to explore and you'll not be disappointed. Stay safe and keep reacting to BAND-MAID!
Whoo my favorite Band-Maid song! They are amazing live. I suggest Domination or Moratorium live performances next. If you want an instrumental, Onset live is a good one as well. I suggest sticking to live performances as much as possible since they’re great live!
It's always so fun to watch people react to BAND-MAID for the first time! Bonus that it's to one of my All-Time Favorite songs of theirs that I hadn't seen live yet! The Non-Fiction Days is also an Ultimate Pump-Up Song!! Thanks! 🤘🤩🤘
The name Band-Maid denotes what the Japanese call "the gap" meaning the difference between what you are seeing "Maids" vs what you are hearing "Rock Music". Miku (rhythm guitar, lyricist) founded the band in 2013 and started by finding Kanami (lead guitar, music composer) on the internet. Kanami called Akane (drummer) who she had worked with, who in turn called MISA (bass). They knew each other as students at the Tokyo School of Music. They decide Miku did not have a strong enough voice for rock music, their agency suggested Saiki (lead vocals) and after a audition. She joined the band. Their breakout MV was Thrill. It got 2 million views in 2 weeks and when they checked it, they found that huge number of the views were American and European. They have been building an international fanbase ever since. One last thing Miku did not know how to play the guitar when she founded the band, they wanted a fuller sound. So she stepped up, Kanami is her teacher. Everyone BE SAFE, sheltering in California.
BAND-MAID only gets better the further you go. lead guitarist is also the primary songwriter(not this song tho).. solos are always tasteful.. as are the bass and drums. everyone gets to shine. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wKZbzcUdY1g.html YOLO MV.. live versions are out there something different: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3KdjPIRrYZs.html 88 Kasyo Junrei - 霊界ヌ〜ボ〜♨ (Spirit World Noodle Bowl is my guess on the title)
@@TimotatoReacts Miku Kobato is the rhythm guitarist and founder . She has now been playing for 6 years. She realized she didn't have the "pipes" to sing lead on the hard rock sound so they brought in Saiki as lead and Miku started learning guitar from the lead guitarist Kanami and does backing vocals. She started with Rickenbakers but now uses Zemaitis. She recently showed off her new V shaped Zematais. And just to close the loop, Kanami uses PRS exclusively, and the bassist MISA is sporting her Black Cloud custom 5 string "Black Smoker". She also has her own Black Cloud Private Reserve MISA signature that has been sneaking in to some videos lately.
@@TimotatoReacts Also, on their earlier stuff when you see Miku with the Rickenbacker you'll also sometimes see Kanami play lead with an Addictone. As Badllama said, Miku hadn't ever held a guitar before the band formed, so everything she learned about playing one had to be done on the fly. If you look at their first MV 'Thrill' you can tell she's just basically holding on to it...sometimes. The vid to which you reacted is from a recent-ish concert (Studio Coast) but Miku has broken through a wall in the few years since then and is playing really solid rhythm work now. There are two more recent concerts with official vids on RU-vid (Zepp Tokyo and from just a couple of months ago at Line Cube Shibuya) where you can tell how much she's improved from this one. She still has the same tone because that's what the songs call for, but her performance level is way better now and it's a lot more clean. She even battles the bassist Misa during one song at Shibuya (no official vid available for that one, it's off the Blu-Ray release), which is something that Kanami traditionally does on lead. A lot. So while Miku's not the best guitarist out there, that's not her job...that's Kanami's job. But she's become pretty damn good in a relatively short time. I don't think many people would have the stones to learn an instrument while playing it in concerts.
You are about to be bombarded with responses and other songs to check out haha. To get a feel for just how musically talented they are, check out Onset. It’s an instrumental and really showcases what they can do.
I'm 68 and have listened to all kinds of music but stumbled onto Band Maid about 6 months ago and never looked back, if you want to continue on this path of Japanese rock and metal i would suggest trying "Love Bites - when destinies align", amazing band with dual guitar leads or "Unlucky Morpheus-Dignity of Spirit ", that should get you started on the all girl bands, "Mary's Blood" "Aldious" and the one that started it all in 1988 "Show Ya"

I'm old and I've heard many fantastic bands over my many years. Countless bands have released great songs but none have released as many as Band Maid. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say they are truly a miracle. The reason I think they are the best rock band in history is not only their songs but their Humanity. I honestly mean better than the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and so many more. The previous all have great songs but they have many that I skip over. Not so with Band Maid. Those other bands have nothing regarding their Humanity and love for their fans like Band Maid does. As far as I can remember none of those other bands have ever written songs dedicated to their fans. I love them because they have brought music back into my life. I had given up on music many years ago because it wasn't interesting and didn't appeal to me. I wish they would have come out 30 years ago so I would be able to hear 30+ years of Band-Maid. Thank you Band Maid for existing. I dearly love each and everyone of you.
I suspect that a few songs in, you will be the newest serious music fan to become a Band Maidiac. Nice reaction/review style! PS: regrettably, I don't have nearly the # of concerts under my belt, but I've been around and paying attention for a good while and Robert, like me might be something of a Band-Maid fanboy, but is on target: this is one of the best overall rock bands playing today, or who've played since that Hendrix concert he was so lucky to have attended! Look forward to seeing if you end up agreeing with us!

What is great about Band-Maid is their musical arrangements, mainly thanks to Kanami, MISA, and Akane. It’s so JUICY. Men, these girls know how to bring out fun and joy through out the music that they play.
There are a lot of good Japanese bands out there, but don't get the recognition they should, mainly due to the language difference. Try: Unlucky Morpheus Black - Pentagram (this band hit like a freight train and keep going) The Gazette - Ugly

Have fun finding your favorite BAND-MAID song, this one wouldn't have made my top ten, but they always Kick Ass! It's hard to compare Girls that play all the music and do it amazingly well, opposed to singer/dancers fronting a bunch of guys.
Don't stop there are a lot of songs and this is not their best song by a long way. Try the live version of DOMINATION that came out a couple of weeks ago from the line cube concert in Shibua. Dice is probably their best song. MUTANT MONSTER is big fun try NO WAY FROM THE HONG KONG ROCKS CONCERT or the video KAMISAMA. BRATS have a new song MRS DOWNER and BRIDEAR have a couple of new songs as well. It's all good stuff. I'm 60years old so I've had time to think about it And I think I like girls too. All the band's I've just listed are girl bands.
Miku Uses EVH amps. I've seen them live where she uses a Marshall and her tone cuts right through. super growly. EVH is fine amp, but in this band it does not let her tone cut through. it gets lost. I hope she switches.
Band-Maid, so it is going to be good. First time seeing a reaction to one of their songs that would be hard pressed to make it on the 'B' side of a single Dive a little deeper. I hate seeing people compare band-maid and babymetal, completely different kind of music. Babymetal is trying to do something different from the rest and band-maid is focusing on doing something that already exists and being pretty good at it.
people are not comparing the genre between the 2 bands, but the poeple that made up the bands and the story behind the bands. baby metal is definitely good at what they are doing, like dancing and the showmanship, the whole theatrical stuff while band maid is good at playing and making their own music and playing it live.
