As a Roman Catholic who likes Metal, it pains me to see and hear that some of my fellow Christians literally try to label the genre as Satanic, when in fact some Metal songs talk about what humanity faces on a daily basis, among other things. I'd argue it absolutely has a place in the House of Righteousness. Deliverance and other Christian thrash bands used to play in church basements. It's a good outlet for kids who like metal but don't identify with the anti-theistic or satanic aspects.

They think that death somehow evokes evil. I've never understood the fear of death. It's a part of life. Everyone dies eventually. When I die I will accept it and move on to whatever awaits me. In my twenties I had a t-shirt and a bandana that had skulls on them. People would accuse me of worshiping death. I had a spiked leather collar too and religious people would ask me "who is your master?" They just didn't get that it was a look and nothing more. Judgmental people are stupid.

As a hispanic person. I grew up listening to Reggaeton, Bachata, Norteño, etc. . When I was about to turn 16 years old, I started listening to classic rock to metal on the radio. I realized that most lyrics from reggaeton & bachata talk about sex, drugs, & crime(back in high school I was surrounded by a bunch of pregnant teen girls at least the age of 15 because they're influenced by that crappy music). I also knew that most metal lyrics talk about love, war, religion, politics, fantasy, history, etc. Most moms(especially my mom) thinks all metal is satanic. The only type of satanic metal is Black metal. Modern pop radio is hot trash. (God is a woman?!?!!? SERIOUSLY ARIANA???) When I was 18 I started playing the guitar. I haven't own an electric guitar yet BTW because my mom doesn't trust me because she thinks I'm gonna play 'so called-devil' music. (I grew up in a Pentecostal household when I was 12)
What's truly important is the MESSAGE that a song conveys, not the choice or style of music. There are Metal bands with positive messages (ex. Demon Hunter) and there are soft lullaby-style songs with deadly evil messages. Until we realize that, we will just keep having these same arguments and going in circles.
RnR is blues music for sex. Metal can be about anything, really. But it's not necessarily Satanic, in that sense. Typically, metal wants to challenge you to think, challenge authority, and challenge society.

I love the Lord, and I love metal. I do stay away from the metal that is dedicated to satan, but I can’t ignore how amazing so much death metal is. I largely grew into Christian metalcore and deathcore as a kid
I am a younger, questioning/ex Christian, who has extremely Christian parents. Even though some of scripture stuck with me, (although not so much scripture, just beliefs and values) I don't usually get freaked out by satanic/bloody, gory, violent lyrics. [As some other people said, they're not usually promoting evil, just ACKNOWLEDGING it] But when you hear about some of what goes on behind the scenes, (or rather upfront, as they are quite proud of it.) especially in black metal, it can be a little disgusting. I don't believe in disrespecting anyone based on religious beliefs, identity, or any sort of culture, so the church burnings that happen sometimes make me a little uncomfortable. Even though I am not a Christian, (and not that I have any issue with people who are) I sometimes get put off by burning churches and bibles. It just reeks of negative energy. [Maybe I'm just a little spiritual?] Almost like a demon trying to pull you in just by watching it happen. Again, as other people have mentioned, metalheads are proven to be happier, less aggressive people, who lead much healthier lifestyles. You can't blame music on events such as the case mentioned in the video, that was clearly the work of two mentally unstable boys with those intentions already implanted in their hearts. I’m a Christian and I’m no different from any other metalhead I’ll say that it’s what u sincerely believe in ur heart that makes u Christian everyone sins and metal is most definitely not satanic maybe old metal but I listen to a lot of megadeth,a7x,korn,slipknot ect. And their lyrics are always a completely different subject to being satanic maybe not slipknot or korn SOMETIMES

All of their lyrics are metaphors that compare their emotions of a topic to something horrendous(in this case, the devil). Me and my family used to go to church for many years and stuff, but that Pastor is full of crap when it comes to rock/heavy metal period. I was born into metal, as my parents loved rock and older heavy metal already. My older siblings also like metal. I love stuff from classic heavy metal all the way to Brutal/Slam Death Metal. Me and my siblings seemed to turn out just fine from any sort of metal we've heard. My love and enthusiasm for metal will never go away \m/.

@Cosmo Kramer I'm with ya, brother. Born in the early 90s, I caught the back-end of that wonderful generation of metal, but I'll always remain faithful to my beliefs. Regardless of the lyrics, sound, or following, it's an art that appeals to my ears. One of my favorite songs is "The Root of All Evil" by Dream Theater. It explains many of the things we find immoral, even outside of religious standards. The song has deep meaning, but does not have me committing any of the things mentioned within the song. Art does not label my faith. If anything, it explains much of the things within it might have many of us seeing what is wrong, while appreciating the composition in which it is performed by these bands...
