12:05 Jason, did you notice one of the military officers behind you had picked Possessed *Seven Churches* ? Never thought I would see the day that a currently serving military officer would be buying one one of the most classic, influential death/thrash metal albums of the mid 80's and all time. Especially in a place like Hawaii haha. PS: The guitar player of that band Larry Lalonde went to join Primus shortly after that band. The vocalist is also wheelchair bound and still doing amazingly well.

Oh man those Book-Off stores looked really awesome, so well-stocked with games! Tell them they are welcome to expand into Europe as well, preferably my country, I'd love to have them around. 😁

We used to have a bunch of videogame shops here. Toys N Joys (of course), Jelly's (comics, music, games, etc.), Discount Outlet (block away from Toys N Joys), and more. Most closed because of slower sales, high rent, new business ventures, and in certain cases drug abuse (by the owner). BookOff used to have pretty competitive prices when they were in Shirokiya and Don Quixote, but now they seem to price items at whatever the highest price is on eBay regardless of condition. Toys N Joys has roots from the Swap Meet as well. They grew from there and had two stores, one in Kaimuki, and the other in Aiea. Yeah....I really miss them.

Neven been to Hawaii myself but back in 2000's I loved this online store named Toys & Joys in Honolulu. They had almost everything you could ask gaming or anime related specially japanese imports you couldn't even find on Ebay. The owners and employers were really helpful. Sadly they closed their store a couple years ago. Looks you both really enjoyed that trip :) Great video and beatiful place.

I couldn't believe how strong the sun was there - it felt super intense when we visited in late August a few years back. Great video! I miss Hawaii!

I lived in Oahu for 4 years. This brought back a lot of memories. I would love to go back some day!

About Book Off, there are a few in California, but there are also 2 in NYC. One of them opened up in Brooklyn fairly recently and is apparently completely dedicated to anime, manga, and Japanese import items. The Manhattan one is standard.

Oh dude, I was in Kauai a little over a year ago (first time to Hawaii), and I was shocked to see the wild chickens EVERYWHERE. They were even in the KFC parking lot, which obviously I found hilarious.

Moved from NYC to oahu 19 years ago. It is simply amazing here, love everyday!

I was in Hawaii last week and visited RetroMax at the Aloha Swap Meet because of this vid! He really is a cool and chill guy. He said a lot of mjf subscribers like myself have visited his booth ever since then so it's nice seeing him getting some exposure to his shop. With that being said, I bought a near pristine condition Dreamcast from him still in the box! It was the only one he had in stock too, and he sold it to me at a fair price. I recommend his booth if you are in Hawaii for sure. His booth has a ton of cool stuff in his collection and lots of imports for retro consoles I never seen before!

Man this makes me miss Hawaii even more. I also stayed in Oahu for a week when I went. Thanks for sharing!

My wife and I just went to Oahu for our honeymoon last year. It was both our first time's in Hawai'i! What a beautiful place it is! It's great to see you enjoying life and hunting for those games!

My grandfather was in WW2 so I grew up eating spam. I fry it with butter and it tastes like a cross between ham and bacon. I get a bag of frozen vegetables and zap them in the microwave. I put the spam and vegetables over rice with some oyster sauce. I also put fried spam in my Mac and Cheese.

Kauai is a great island to visit. It's where a lot of movies are filmed. There is borderline no game stores though. Kauai is very laid back and rural, so perfect for relaxing

It truly is a criminal that this channel doesn't have more subs. Just absolutely criminal.

PS1 has so many great titles that aren't talked about. The ultimate "hidden gem" system.

kauaii is my favorite of all the islands. its the smallest of all the islands but man its incredible, from Grand canyon views to the beach just minutes away.

So crazy , wife and I went there for part of our honeymoon 20 years ago, and this all still looks so familiar. Such a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing!

I miss home, we do have some of the best food in the world. So many cultures packed on the island. Didn’t know book off in Hawaii had so many retro games. Great video man! Makes me want to visit again very soon!

That looks like an awesome vacation, as far as visiting other islands I can't recommend Kauai enough. It's the garden island lots of cool things to see. Not a whole lot of big city buildings and everything, its super laid back.

Oh man, what memories. I traveled in 2018 and visited 2 GameStop stores that had GameCube games, and the fantastic swapmeet with RetroMax where I bought Sega Genesis games, but he sold me a PS3 game without the disc! no sign of the BookOffs, I would have visited them if I had known of their existence. Congratulations for the trip.

This was incredible. I know I will most likely never get to experience this in person, but if I do I feel I would love it, just due to this video showing it off. You should def do a gamers guide to visiting places (which you have done essentially - almost like a travel channel style series, between here, Japan, other US cities, etc.) I also keep forgetting how tall you are, you seem like you tower over just about everyone you're around. That Swap Meet looked so incredible, I just love those style of sales and experiences. Such an outstanding journey and video to accompany it. Beautiful place, amazing scenery, and actually a pretty good gaming scene. Love the Prototype series, need to go back and finish off the playthrough I was doing and Do the hard playthrough, such a cool game. Some great pickups there. The rainbow building was featured in the more recent Godzilla movies! Also, the Prince hotel used to be a hospital in the 90s! The stadium you were at is set to be demolished! That marina that was a part of your view was used in the opening of the famed TV show Gilligan's Island!! Aloha!!

Ahhh Honolulu is my home 😍I like how you interspersed Hawai`i stuff with your gaming hunts! I haven't been to the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet in forever, good to see it's as huge as always 😝 I would say if you go back, you should definitely try Hawai`i island, Volcanoes National Park is totally worth it 👍..you can stay there for a couple of days, a week is a bit much. Kaua`i is also great, and is called the Garden Isle because it is VERY green and good for hiking. It's also home to the Grand Canyon of Hawai`i, Waimea Canyon.

You're the definition of work hard in your 20s-30s and then enjoy your life in your 40s and 50s. Dont wait until your 60 and up. Love to see you traveling again

I used to go to a book off almost every saturday in southern california when i use to live there and bought all kinds of stuff. Was one of my favorite places to go.

My parents took a cruise to Hawaii and loved every minute of it. The food on the ship was all you can eat steak and lobster. There were activities every day and excursions to the island, including going out on a catamaran.

Watching this video as someone who lives in Hawaii is a little weird but glad you had a good time. Idea's and the Swap Meet are great hidden gems!

Hawaii is beautiful! I’ve always wanted to go. My mother’s first duty station in the army was actually Fort Shafter which is in Hawaii! She spent a few years there but I’ve never been.

I was stationed there for 5 years and just left this year. Absolutely loved it.

That jungle fun arcade has been there since I was a kid. There use to be some classic arcades in the other malls but they finally closed down a few years ago. The original buy and trade store on Oahu was toys and joys but they retired and closed about a decade ago. I recently found a used game at book off that had a toys and joys sticker on it and I had to buy it just for that reason!!!

The humidity in SC is what makes it hotter than it is, unfortunately.

I recommend Kauai. Such a beautiful island. We went to Kauai and Oahu this year.. Next year we are going to the big island.

The Polynesian Cultural Center on the north shore in Lai'e is a fun time. Lots of cool little shrimp trucks and shave ice places up there too... not to mention the Hukilau Cafe (ONO GRINDS BRAH!)

Since I'm from Brazil, I don't know how things are in US, but the poke dish is kinda usual here in big downtown areas... There's a bunch of poke restaurants here... I believe it's because the tropical weather, since poke is kind of a cold dish in general... But with the right combination, it's a very tasteful food! Regarding the swap meet... Man, we have those here in Brazil! Basically the same name! And same stuff... You find all the things you expect, including games, electronics, clothing, food.... With tents and things on the floor.... I think I need to visit Hawaii! Thanks Metal Jesus for another tourism video and game hunting! I watch'em all!

We have a bookoff right down the road from us in San Diego. It is a great spot! Some of the prices are insane though. Hawaii is a magical place! I personally prefer Maui but Oahu has some great spots.

Book Off has a location in New York. Pretty cool shop, wanted to grab an Ultimate Madoka statue there but probably not the best idea to walk around with something huge that costs $200 while in Manhattan.
