this song is super epic. The version with the orquestra is a smasher, shame that you didn't like it that much. Top 3 of that record for me :)

This one is definitely my favorite from the Hardwired album. I absolutely love Kirk's lead work on the outro, the way it starts simple and just builds and builds.

That 'hard cut' seemed hard because you were expecting a fourth cycle through the preceding riff and you only got three of them. *snap* oh, we're here now?

To be completely honest, I doubt you'll like it after some time. This is my favorite hardwired song, but I fell in love with it instantly. I don't know how to explain why. I love the hard cut. Also love James vocals, and just the overall feel of this song. For me, it's similar to St. Anger in the way of why I like it. It feels wrong, it feels weird, gives a weird vibe, there are some things that make me say "why", but yet somehow all together I can't help loving it. I guess it has a special feel that makes it work! P.s. The quality of these videos keeps getting better, keep it up!

It's cool that it isn't your favorite. I certainly disagree with a few of your points, but it all comes down to personal taste. I do ask that you give it a few more listens, maybe check out a live or S&M2 versions. I do think you will agree that- regardless of your thoughts of the rest of the album- Hardwired seems to combine all of Metallica's catalog. You have a couple straight thrashers, a super heavy song, a couple that would fit perfectly on the Black Album, and a couple that could be placed on Load or Reload. Hardwired To Self Destruct might not be the best but it has something for every Metallica fan.
@Starcoma
@Starcoma 4 года назад
I am certainly enjoying the album as a whole. Hell, when I first listened to Master of Puppets, there were songs I didn’t like straight away. I’m certain I will take more of a liking with repeat listens for sure.
@pdegan2814
@pdegan2814 4 года назад
I actually think this one doesn't translate as well to live performances compared to a lot of their other tracks. I think part of it is the vocal range is pretty challenging, and Kirk's timing on some of his lead lines isn't as good in the live performances. Plus the quality of the audio mix on the album version gives it a lot more power, especially with James' vocals in the chorus, and the guitar lines in the intro. I agree with you that Hardwired in many ways feels like a great combination of Metallica's various styles over the years. I absolutely consider it to be one of their strongest albums if you take each one of them as a whole.

nah, last solo is james, it's too obvious. True that Kirk plays it in the videoclip, but it's still a James solo

@@99FLC *nod* not just the tone, definitely the same as the rhythm previously... but also "too perfect". That's not a criticism, the man's played super-precise rhythm guitar for decades, and it shows up in solos as a specific quality. Hard to explain properly.

Usually the best Metallica songs are always what we call “growers”. Due to the conplexity of their music, too much to take in, once you appreciate the context and patterns you feel the music. And most of their songs are always like that

Well let me tell you it's Metallica it's suppose to make different solo's and riffs.For my opinion it's better than the same riffs and solo's like other Rock bands. Metallica is one of the thrash metal musician's that you at least expected. That what makes Metallica so special.

I get what you are saying. And you are right. Once you watch the videos of the making of each of these songs, they actually pull parts from songs they feel do not work in a song and then move them around if they work. It’s something they have done for a very long time. I think this song will grow on you though. Great review

At first i thought it's an ok song, when i saw them play it live i fell in love with it. Then i saw it live at S&M2 and started loving it even more. Album version feels kinda lacking compared to live versions. Edit: The James intro for it on the Worldwired EU tour was chilling to witness live

Their live playing of this song is MUCH better. James has a cool little intro that’s not on the album and on the second(?) verse he SCREAMS the second “obey” in an almost death metal growl. OBAAAAAAAAAYYGGGHHHHHHHH

I love the different ideas thrown in their songs. And Justice For All is all about that. Just a bunch of riffs thrown together, and its why its my favorite album of all time. This is easily a top 3-4 song on this album. I don't think youll enjoy the rest of the album if this one ranked low for ya haha.

He will probably will like Here Comes Revenge the song has a “special vibe to it”. After 8 years of not listening to new music from Metallica (Not counting Beyond Magnetic as they are leftover songs from Death Magnetic [even though I love them] and Lulu doesn’t exist) when I first listened to Halo On Fire I felt that something that was missing returned on that very same moment. This song reminded me a lot of Fade to Black structure and melody. Then I saw a comment in Spit out the bone video where they said that listening to that song felt like when you reencounter a long lost friend after 25 years of not seeing each other. THAT exact same feeling is what I felt when listening to Halo On Fire.

The video argument is already here, but Kirk plays it live as well. Doesn't seem like James would just hand over such a major solo in a regularly played song. Nothing in the behind-the-scenes shows James playing it either IIRC, and he's very much the type to make sure he gets credit for whatever he plays, all the way back to the "all rhythm, acoustic, harmony guitars by Hetfield" bit in the Justice liner notes.
@playermartin286
@playermartin286 4 года назад
Breakdance Bartholomew just listen to the sound. It’s not kirk’s tone.
@smittyramirez522
@smittyramirez522 4 года назад
@@playermartin286 Around 6 and a half minutes into the making of video, James/Lars/Rob are listening to the ending which fades out on the lead melody. James says there's supposed to be a solo in there somewhere - by a minute later he says they'll choose whichever version of the vocals are better and "he'll solo over the other thing", referring to Kirk. A little after 12 minutes in the whole band are playing the same part and Kirk is handling the lead, though it also seems to be before there was an extended solo at the end. Aside from some improvisation, the tone itself is not dissimilar to what's on the album. Nothing concrete but it's food for thought. I can see James having tracked the melody that starts everything off, but to these ears it could very well be Kirk playing the actual solo from there (and there is plenty to support that being the case). The final note even has his typically fast vibrato.
