This is the kind of video I love to see on checking out pros and cons of something...delivered quickly with no useless filler or stupid intros. When I need more detail, there will be other videos with it. Thanx for your brevity and clarity.
Hey Matt, I would love to see a cut away diagram or mocked up display of this house’s walls and windows/doors. The kind that show all the layers and how they are fastened. So interesting.
Hi Matt . . At first I was unsure about the look of this build . . Now really like . It has an 'honest' look about it . No stick on frills but functional clean lines . Good one .
Agreed, thanks for sharing. I've noticed in recent years that they have come a long ways with metal siding...not nearly as much the commercial utility look any look any more. Some of these new office complexes really look nice with styles of metal, masonry and color coordination.
I am planning on building a metal home, not a Quonset hut but similar. I would love to see your recommendations for how to go about your methods on they style of building! Your videos are so informative, thank you for all you do!
I work in the oil fields around East Texas and NW Louisiana and I see many of the old field offices from the 30's still standing, they called them dog houses and they were completely clad in metal.
Dear Matt, I`m writing you from Chile, thank you for you very informative video Can you do a video showing the process of roofing and siding with corrugated metal, I want to do the same (I´m not a crafstman) and I want to know the best way to insulated properly, (how many layers of what), the insulation, how to join the corners, avoid leaks, etc, you would make me so happy, please!!!!!!! Thank You!!, regards Gustavo.
You are correct on that. I have thought about many times, why don't more people use metal siding. The reason being it is cheap, easy to install, and lasts a long time. However, many people do not like it because of aesthetics.
So I’m here in NE Florida and have some questions about underlayment for metal roofing on purlins what are some of your thoughts on it and products that you might use. We are going to have a vaulted ceiling on one half of the home what ventilation problems may I run into so I’m not going at this blind
How would this do on a house in Alaska? We have a stucco home that received damage on an outer wall from last November’s 7.0 earthquake. Husband hasn’t repair it yet since he has no idea how to repair stucco. I think this would be a great alternative to use and border the entire outside of house with it. What are your thoughts? And it should be easy to removed to repair any further wall damage from any future earthquakes, right?
Nice . If I'm planning to construction glue 2 inch formular insulation outside of 1/2 inch plywood on my sides and roof, can I screw a metal roof into the 2x6 roof truss studs over the insulation? Wont there be give over time?
You should watch the the video he did that showed rot doing it that way after only two years. Must add a water barrier between the plywood and exterior insulation.
What's the wind rating on metal over wood? Would any county in Florida let you build a residential housewithout plywood or drywall? ... just metal skin over 2x4s framing , 2" Styrofoam insulation and MDF paneling on the inside?
I did not see any caulk between your L-shape metal trim and the siding. Is that not needed to keep water from getting behind there or do you simply rely on the rainscreen to prevent water damage in this application?
I wanted metal because of longevity and the modern metal sidings nowadays looks so food especially the wood look with rich wood textures and colors but i decided not to do it because of 1.) the cost of those metal sidings installation is triple the cost, because it takes longer to install and additional cost is the materials you put underneath the sidings to insulate it, metal heats up fast and can get really cold, it’s not something im willing to pay on a house that I will sell in the future. 2.) Steel siding tends to make loud noises when it expands and contract.
What if you live near the ocean or humid area? Is rust an issue. Many of the houses here on the south eastern coast line have issues with metal parts rusting within a year, unless you use stainless steal(expensive). Thank you for your time
+Jay H They Kynar finish has a pretty long warranty (20 years I believe) so you'll go a long time without rust. But, I would check with the manufacturer regarding salt water exposure. This is essentially a galvanized product and not stainless. MR
And with metal no termites. Btw why is a radiant barrier needed with metal siding? The metal skin is the barrier providing you use unpainted galvulume or similitude finish.
Correct. But during construction they used a radiant barrier lined insulation sheathing. And in doing So effectively gave the structure a double Radiant barrier if I’m understanding his process.
Matt Risinger we went with all metal roofing and siding on our DIY home build here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A0tE36wCl3U.html One of the challenges I found was the limited ways to deal with wall penetrations such as having an outdoor spigot, light, or outlet. I was looking for something more than just 'caulk it' as a solution. Got creative with some 3/4" watertight bulkhead connectors for the outlets and got some rubber grommets to fit the spigot opening. Love your videos, keep up the great work.
I live in the Hill Country of Texas. Do you know a builder that builds metal houses? I just bought some property and I am looking for a builder to build a metal house that has a contemporary look.
Corrugated steel roofing and to some extent siding is widely used in Australia, which gets hot. You just need to have appropriate wrapping and insulation of the structure
not so much at night but you will get it with rapid temperature change eg. sunny summer day with passing clouds. If heating or cooling is gradual its not usually even noticeable
The thieves can remove the sheet just as easily unfortunately, but all the same this is a common choice in Australia at $12/m2 supplied. Just don't ever put the sheets vertical on a wall.
@@jl9678 vertical is still functional, but looking at a building from a distance with vertical corrugated walls and roofing is a shocking look. I'm no fashionista but same gose for vertical strip shirts I'm told.
way more decorative options are available that you probably haven't seen. I work for a company that specializes in metal roof and wall panels and you have a lot of different variations, materials, and finishes.
