Yeah his story is unexpectedly sad. The fact that he was once a respected Colonel of the regular army explains at least somewhat while they went through the trouble of rescuing him from the martians
Now that I know I wonder how is possible that the heroes didn't side with him, especially after the denied resignation i mean. Is clear that the regular army is exploiting them as the leadership is to much corrupted to create a real plan.
@@kanehodder3459 but then he also started a war that lead to the death of literal millions and the ruination and sacking of entire cities and destabilization of entire countries lol He carved out the new borders of the world in blood. Saving him . . . Is no good unless you need a strategic weapon of some kind through his influence lol
16:48 "Allen O'neil, who survived their last encounter, had also made a comeback. Determined to get his revenge. This time he wasn't alone as he was helped by other soldiers. But he lost again and fell into the sea, where he was eaten by a killer whale. This time he's dead for sure. . . . . . . . Probably." . . . lol
A theory was actually circling about the killer whale being a secret submarine where Allen was actually saved by his comrades and the bones shown were not his, which makes it more probable than it being a real killer whale.
@@patataspotato6916 remember when we meet allen o niel in metal slug 3 and we thought we kill him at ms2?. Also we fight together we allen oneil to eliminate alien in final mission at ms3? Yeah good old times :)
As violent as this game is, the animations are so charming and eye catching. The design invested into this series has been consistently stellar, making the series timeless overall. I also love the characters. Marco in Neo Geo Coliseum was my favorite character in that game. He was just so well animated and fun to use.
Metal Slug Lore is so ridiculous it put Gears of War Lore to shame. LOL 😂 Long Story Short: After the end of *"The Pendulum Wars"* the World was at Peace for about 4 weeks until *"Emergence Day"* came and eventually *"The Locust War"* (Main Games 1-3) began etc. (That's gotta be a New Record.)
SNK is chalk full of unexpected character types - ethnic wise. Even their lore is down right captivating and yet the quality of the games remains solid.
"As they ran out of gas, they adapted their vehicles to operate without it." Lol Metal Slug 3 was wacky. SNK knew how to be creative, and they had a lot of fun doing it. This video was amazing. I can't wait for the second part!
Number 3 got a rare perfect 100 score in the now forgotten (Best Video Game Magazine Ever) Game Fan Magazine. Made me wanna play it as I had only owned 2 (X edition), 4 & 5 before. Ended up loving it just the same - unbiased. My kind of insanity in a 2D game. If I aint playing classic Contra titles or Gunstar Heroes, it's Metal Slug. Everyone else can enjoy their First Person Shooters as I won't contradict them. But I know what I love and why I love it.
Metal slug 3 was like.... really magical when i played it as a kid. Like. Wow. Regular war, then alien comes, then we become allies, etc. 3 and 6 is my fav.
Man I remember playing these games in the laundromat while waiting for clothes to wash/dry and because of that I see it as one of the Mexican experiences
@@TheBrazilRules they were pretty shitty ones, like clearly they weren’t from the actual manufacturers and would have multiple games that weren’t even from the same companies
@@TheBrazilRules nah but we had arcade cabinets, in my little town there was 3 liqour stores and each one had a cabinet, one of them being a neo geo arcade and the others with megaman x 1-3
One of the few youtubers I actually look forward to new videos from. You always make great videos no matter KOF or metal slug. Can’t wait to enjoy more content in the future 🙏🏽
By far, 3 is the best. It's epic, it was also the start of introducing HUGE variety of enemies in the follow-up games, and it has a grand scope and feel. By visuals alone, the game tells its story. And all of it sums up into a 5 mission clusterfuck of pure thrill and enjoyment.
man you should change the name of the channel to SNK Encyclopedia, anyway when i was a kid i always thought METAL SLUG 2 was based on INDEPENDENCE DAY MOVIE.
I never realised how much lore there was in one of the greatest arcade games I've played. I can't wait for part two. I'm really glad I found your channel
The way i played it was: l had a PS3 and i was 9 years old. It was also the last day of my gr.5 days, so i have all the time to play. Now everyone knows that when you open a PS3, There's a chance that it will crash or you have to restart. (NOT FLEXING!!!!!) That never happened to me. l have alot of games in PS3 (Like OG GAMES. Silent hill (i can't even play it cuz it so scary. I would let my big brother played it. wait wu-) Tekken, and more.) But i always choose. METAL SLUG, MS2, MS3. (My big brother was still in college so he was studying always. Meaning he rarely plays with me. BUT HE HAD TIME TO PLAY WITH MEEE.) Instead of just run n gun. Me and my brother would play the game to get all the secrets. Sometimes we would race to get the item or gun we want! (I liked flame shot, He also want flame shot) And the rest is we had fun and finish the games. Man. Good times, Thanks for reading (if u actually read.) Byes
Wow, didn’t know there were specific lore in the stages as well. I loved playing the Metal slug series, used to play co-op with my younger brother, it was one of his favourite games as well. IMO Metal Slug 3 was the best in the series, they had a lot of varieties in the enemies, stages as well weird supernatural stuff like zombies, mummies, yetis, etc. and the last stage was fun as hell! Great video! 👍
I play this series since I was kid and now when I'm a working adult I just found out one of my favorite arcade side scrolling game actually have a story beyond what show in gameplay and in game concept arts.
WOW. Played every single Metal Slug game to date but this makes me look at the whole series very differently. Thank you. Now as i play levels again, i will feel more attachment and interest since i know the lore behind them.
After the rise of indie games, I really start to appreciate the sprite work of older games like these. Things I never even bothered to care about when playing these games in their era.
Fun fact: Marco is 3 years older than Fio, and they are both Italian, the only difference is Marco was born in America in 2005, Fio was born in Italy in 2008.
So currently Marco is (or will be since it's not April 13th as of typing this) 17 and Fio is (or will be in October 2th as of typing this) 14. They both don't know that in 8 years from now, they'll fight against mummies, zombies, and aliens. Hahaha!
@@angelsartandgaming Six or seven years from now, actually. Fio turns 20 years old during her first appearance in Metal Slug 2, so MGS2 is in 2028 or 2029. So yeah, six or seven years from now, Marco, Fio, Tarma and Eri will fight against mummies, zombies, aliens and all that crap. LOL!

Really like how Marco and Tarma were just done and constantly wanted to resign from the army but were ultimately way too powerful as an asset to be let go until the wars were done.
I still remember walking into laundromats and hearing "THANK YOU! Heavy machine gun. Cant believe it's been so long since I started playing this game. I use to snack on chips and soda when playing as a kid now I snack on weed and beer while playing Metal Slug😄
Can't wait for you to do part 2! I never got the chance to get into Metal Slug. But watching the gameplay and hearing this whacky lore makes me wanna play some Metal Slug!
Guessing the Japanese army is also a reference to that lost Japanese soldier who kept thinking WW2 was ongoing years after it ended. They got lost and kept fighting for the second Mordern war and never realized what was really happening outside of their location. I had no idea that's what actually happened to them, I always thought they were just some weirdos.
I like all the details that are mentioned here. Though I have a few nitpicks: Huge Hermit was an accident for the most part. The story goes is that a Giant Shell-less Hermit Crab outgrew its shell and saw the rebels' large artillery piece as a new home. When the rebel army found out what happened to their artillery they just played along and trained it. Sol Dae Rokker was also apparently Mars People-tech. But it was worshipped as a divine entity by the ancient people who used to live there.
I disagree with one tiny detail you mentioned at the start, that being that X and 2 are the same. That's not exactly the case. The remake (X) adds many new details to the game to make the inclusion of the martians more subtle. In MS2, we only see them at the very end, which seems to come out of nowhere (kinda random). In MSX, however, they make 2 appearances in stage 1 and 1 in the Chinese neighborhood stage. These additions were not in the original version.
First time I played a Metal Slug game was during my university years. The arcade cabinet was located in the lobby of the gym building. I was waiting for class, noticed it, and instantly fell in love despite the amount of quarters it would eat. It is the perfect illustration of how a genre of video games develops for the better since Metal Slug is everything Contra style games could become over time.
I remember playing some some of the Metal Slug games. They are really hard but damn they have some great animation. I love how you cover the lore of SNK games since they never get mentioned all that much. It’s interesting to see that they are all deeper than one would think. Well done with this video.
Awesome, I never knew the Metal Slug games have so much lore! Also, I love how you're slowly turning from a KoF-focused channel into an all-out SNK one! KoF, SamSho, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting and now Metal Slug! What are you going to cover next??
Metal Slug has always been one of my favorite game franchises. The art style is soooooo good. A remaster/HD version of some of the games would be great, for some reason the ports in the SNK collections play a bit clunky for my taste.
but who cares for the story? seriously. i was first introduced to metal slug by my thai friend he had it on psx and sold it as this massive game that is very well known in asia. we are in the early 2000nds here and none of my european frienda including me had ever heared of it. after that encounter i hunted down every copy i could get including the ngpc version...nowadays its all romdumps and i am glad for it. still think this is one of the best games that you play with anyone that comes to your house, no matter if they are gamers or not. its just a great series in vedeo games and i am happy that i got the recongintion it deserves. but seriously: who cares about the lore?
@@ShoryuGame no thank you. Your the best and will always support your channel since day one. Also I was to tell you honestly from the bottom of my heart. Thank you and hope thing are going well for you
This was an excellent video. You did an amazing job relaying the story. I always enjoy your videos, but this just felt like something special. Thank you for all you do and keep up the awesome work!
Fio was also a "Striker" in KOF 2000, Kinda upsetting she wasn't playable in that game, but I'm happy she eventually was in Maximum Impact 2, I'm still hoping to see one of the MS characters to become playable Fighters in future KOF installments, Hell, Marco & Fio actually made a Cameo in the Ikari Warriors ending in KOF 14 (It could be a foreshadow but who knows). My picks are Marco, Tarma & Eri (Sorry Fio, but I just found Eri way more Cooler).
I loved your video, thank you so much for doing this. I’m from Mexico and I grew up watching my older brothers playing KoF, and since I couldn’t compete, I would play this instead in the arcades. I didn’t know English but it didn’t matter, this game’s style says it all and even to this day I love seeing the ending of MS3.
Thanks for this video is a refresher of the lore of these games, I knew that they are more than they just look like, but still without any dialogue the animation themselves show a lot of story. When McDonalds and BK had Gamecubes and PS2s a local Wendy´s had NEOGEOs setup to free play and one of them had Metal Slug 1, X, 3 & 5, I played those games a lot with my sister and since then I hold them so dearly in my heart.
24:02-24:07 Okay Allen O'Neil basically sounds like the SNK equivalent of Wild Dog at this point. Didn't think Metal Slug lore was this deep. Sounds like the creators put a lot stuff together while drunk, yet it somehow really works.
I recently started playing Metal Slug games. I was a bit confused about the story but thanks to this video (and it's future sequels) I can finally understand the story. 🔥
The 3rd one was one of my childhood favorites and the one i replayed over and over again with my cousins just because of how fun and easily adaptable it was
Oh man I can't wait for part 2! I freaking love Metal Slug as a child and still do now as a adult! I wish they could bring back all of these games on one system or something ^_^ Btw Fio best girl!
Poor Marco and Tarma. They get the Solid Snake/ Sam Fisher treatment and are too good to quit. You used to see that a lot with older war movies like Rambo, which I'm guessing they got inspiration from, and it's so cool the games still hold up today. Thanks for covering the story!
Haha! Rambo is still alive and survived inside the whale. 🤣🤣 The game is very SNK. KoF to ne exact. Why? Because of the clones! 😊 Thank you for explaining the story of the game. I can't finish the game in 1 credit. It takes several credits for me to finish the game. 😅 So excited to know Trevor and Nadia and obvisously the Ikari Team. ❤
really nice to see someone explaining the lore of MS a very important part of my childhood. thanks, I appreciate it. Now I'm hyped to see the second part!
@@meganinten0078 I always felt her interaction with the Ikari Warriors team in KOF was hilarious. I beat it with her and I don't think she even had an ending.
