The portraits are a bit different from the original concept art, but the in-game pixel art is just P E R F E C T. It being similar to Into the Breach is also a plus in my book.

Excited for this and glad its coming to the switch. Just finished CARDS RPG and i'm looking to add more trpgs to my game calendar this year as my backlog is being whittled down. Currently playing marvel ultimate alliance 3 (wanted to play a hero game since i was hoping Capes would be good but i wasnt impressed) which isnt a trpg. Then i have fell seal in my backlog along with re-runs of unicorn overlord and redemption reapers.

The thing that annoys me is that in this era of truth based tactical games, we got squads of 3, like WHY?! Our platforms can handle more then that now, l can't wait for a game like Xcom where you can upgrade your squad to 6. Lamplighters league was good but what killed it for me was the trash stealth mechanic & only being able to have 3 people in your party.

They nailed the aesthetic of the game and the gameplay with the Into the Breach elements seems interesting, so definitely a day one buy for me. I seriously recommend you play the original Metal Slug series so you can get all the references and unique mechanics, they're peak run and gun sidescrollers and since they're arcade games, they don't take long to beat.

I liked Into the Breach but I hope this has more to offer... not that ITB just didn't hook me because of the difficulty curve. I didn't want to stick around and master it because rng hits so hard in those types of games.

I can't wait to learn more about Fio's abilities. I suspect they will involve a Machine Gun because once they started giving character special traits in the main series games hers is starting with a Machine Gun. Maybe healing and buffing as well since she's planning to go into sports medicine after serving in the military and in the SNK vs Capcom card fighting games she has a healing ability.

into the breach was an ok title. I don't remember disliking it, but I think maybe the rogue-lite elements may have been a bit too thick for my taste. i've heard of the metal slug franchise but don't have much investment, but it might be neat to see how it turns out.

Yeah, they intended to release in 2022 when they announced it. But then it got delayed twice to 2024.

Wait this never came out? I figured it must have come out years ago and it just was bad enough that it didn't create enough buzz for me to take notice. Glad that's not the case and there's still a good chance for this to turn out good, as I've always loved Metal Slug's pixels and sprites

DUDE! I used to play Metal Slug 4 as a kid so much! On the PS2, I think. Such a fun game. Did know this was a thing that was happening. I should keep an eye out for it.

The biggest question I have is - will multiplayer be available? Metal slug has been a game I have enjoyed in my youth as couch multiplayer. Even if it is just two players would be great

Same way as Unicorn Overlord was a massive refinement of the basic Ogre Battle gameplay and style, would love if Metal Slug Tactics refined the mechanics of Into the Breach (a game I love that has plenty of flaws). Either way, looking forward to this one!
