Do live, but go ahead and listen to other songs you haven't heard by them yet, there are about 50 songs to be surprised by yet. I suggest HEADBANGER or ROAD Of RESISTANCE, Live in Japan. Kitsune dao!

@@JohnReavesLive What do you by 'like this'? If you mean exactly like this then Broken by the Scream 'Sayonara Birthday'. If you mean similar then Hanabie 'We Love Sweets'. There are others to a greater or lesser extent. A lot of Japanese bands mix genres. I don't mean that Broken by the Scream is exactly like Babymetal. But they are the same concept. Most Japanese metal bands are similar in some way to Babymetal. I could recommend 20 more bands. Nemophila is not very similar to Babymetal but they are incredible. I recommend Nemophila 'Dissension'. That is usually the first one people react to. As far as being exactly like Babymetal there is LADYBABY 'NIPON MANJU'. I don't know if that counts because they were actually a parody homage to Babymetal for a commercial. But it was very good and turned into an actual group untill their singer got deported. Passcode is also the same concept as Babymetal but I can't recommend them because I don't like them.

_Ossu!_ Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal Galaxy 🦊🤘 Another golden reaction to this song, it seems we got a Karate weekend and I'm glad for that. Cool to see you're starting with this one. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (that's why you see some cuteness there, kawaii means cute in japanese), mixing Jpop (no kpop involved) with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "Baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist. *MoaMetal* scream and dance. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. None of them are related. _"Karate"_ is one of their stronger weapons along with _"Road Of Resistance"._ Is an uplifting song about keep fighting besides the obstacles, and if you take a closer look at the end you'll see in the eyes of their rivals that they're fighting against no other than themselves. You're not the first one finding anime vibes on BabyMetal songs, the only other song I could find with anime vibes besides this one is _"Syncopation"_ you'll love that song. When this song and MV was released in 2016 they had 17 (MoaMetal and YuiMetal) and 18 yo (SuMetal the lead singer you saw in the middle). We know Amuse is very hard to deal with copyright blocked issues, fortunately we can help you with that if you go to *Babymetal Reactor Resource* channel you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them. You can also put some heavy opacity and translucent effect to avoid those issues. However there are some safe clips to react like those from Legend 1997 or some of Budokan 2014 or previous to this year, but the usual fans recommendation is always try to avoid live compilations and Glastonbury performance whenever you can. If you want another exponent of their 2nd album you got "Road Of Resistance" live in Japan 2015 at the official channel, is heavily blocked so please take precautions to avoid being blocked. Try to aim to live performance with the Kami Band sound, they're a blast and that is when the whole group really shine when doing live performance. You got this song Karate live at Download Festival 2016 safe to react if you want to come back another day and share with us. Btw you said you're progressive metal fan and because of that you'll get a lot of recommendation to watch "Tales Of The Destinies", my suggestion is to wait at least after hearing a couple of songs from 1st and 2nd album before going for that song since that was performed one time only and is tied to another special song for BM fans and is called "The One", you won't get the meaning if you don't travel this journey a little bit after knowing what they did previous years. And finally, just a friendly advice, remember to not related this group and what they do to any kpop, fans don't like that, if any you can name jpop, that's more accurate relationship. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘

Thank you for your loads of information. I’m sure John will appreciate that. While I know nothing about J-Pop, much less kawaii metal J-Pop, I found their story to be very interesting. It certainly caught my attention. I probably won’t be following them, but this group is very good. Even though my ethnicity is Japanese, I am American and know nothing about the music industry in Japan (I’ve been into BTS & more K-Pop). Lately, I was watching the eAudition competition through Hybe Labels and it caught my attention because it is basically a Japanese group (with a couple of nonJapanese members), and I was enjoying hearing them speak in Japanese (though I can’t understand it, I can recognize some words now & then) and wanted to see what differences there were between the personalities of Japanese idols vs Korean idols. I may get into more J-Pop as time goes on, but BTS & K-Pop takes up most of my free time. (See my separate comment to John)

@jakemuller8626 Год назад
@@misosoup8030 Don't mention it, is my pleasure to share little things I know as well many others fans do. Dunno about Hybe Labels band or group you mentioned, not an expert J-pop either, just a few things here and there since i know J-pop way before Kpop blew up after Psy, and I know some Kpop before Psy, when BTS and Blackpink arrived i wasn't following Kpop scene anymore but i know they're big of course, even one member of the "avengers" (new BabyMetal dancers) was fan of Blackpink and participated in a kpop survival show called "Girls Planet 999" (Kep1er group came out from that show), sadly she couldn't go further the first stage despite all the support she had from BM fans. Anyway if any, i recommend you to watch "Why I love BabyMetal" from "Nobita From Japan" to get an idea why BM is so different for japanese POV and why you should give them a chance since you won't find anything alike to BM in any other group, although they're all grown up now and there's certain factors you and all of us won't experience anymore because time changes, you still got a lot of material to experience and enjoy their journey and how they reach to this point, we're waiting for more eventually and we know they still got something more to explore the unique sound and visuals they're trying to express. Trust me, your time watching them will worth every second. Feel free to ask me whatever you need and I'll do my best to help you out.🦊🤘

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. They created their own genre "Kawaii Metal" (ie cute metal) a blend of metal with JPop (not KPop - they are Japanese, not Korean - some people are very sensitive about the difference). They have about 50 songs so far covering virtually every metal genre (djent, prog, speed, power, thrash, black, death, folk etc) but mixing in many other musical styles and genres with the metal - not just pop, also ska, reggae, Finnish polka, Bollywood, Latino, dub step, rap, hip hop and more. They are first and foremost a live performance act, their official videos and studio albums are very good, but they just give you a taste of what they are capable of and how their songs should sound. You won't hear Su-metal's natural vocals until you see them live - and she is incredible. 'Karate' live at Download UK 2016 would be a good one for you to see how good they are that they can even perform at a festival in torrential English rain. Su-metal is lead vocalist and the whole concept was formed around her vocal talents and stage presence - even though she was still only 12 when they started in 2010. You are right, she is exceptionally talented. Yuimetal and Moametal are the other two girls - both 18 months younger than Su and both also very talented singers, dancers and performers. Su will be 25 in December, Moa and Yui are 23 now. Sadly Yui last performed in October 2017 and left the band in October 2018 after a 12 month absence for undisclosed health reasons. Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo and from 2019 through 2021 they were supported by any one of three girls (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) who took turns dancing in the third spot. Dreamcatcher are fans of BABYMETAL, so are influenced but, as you said, not quite the same. A few have tried to do what BABYMETAL do, none has come close yet, they really are unique and very special. 'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - as with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards. In the video the figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that). They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time. This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".

⚡ 💀 💕 / 👻 👻 👻 Lead singer Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, or just "Su") was 18 years old when this music video was released in late March of 2016. Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) were both 16. BABYMETAL's producer Kei Kobayashi (Kobametal, or Koba) became aware of Su around 2009, when she was the youngest member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's. He was so impressed by her stage presence and "no holds back" singing that he decided to form a metal group around her. It took several years for that plan to really take off. And, BTW, good thinking. Live performances are where they really shine. Looks like some great suggestions in the comments.

Nice reaction. Welcome to the foxhole. As you've already been told Babymetal is a Japanese group. As the group got bigger even the Japanese government took notice. In 2015 they got Babymetal to join their "Cool Japan" program. Mostly it was a program to show new things Japan was doing and trying to get the international community to be interested in Japan. What better way to show what was new and cool at the time then with the countries rising international stars Babymetal who's video for Give Me Chocolate went viral in 2014. To say Babymetal is a big deal is an understatement of a lifetime. Babymetals biggest deal is performing live. They worked hard to get where they are. They are Japan's number one heavy music group. Their main focus in music is Kawaii Metal. It started with them. There are others who have Kawaii metal songs. but not many are only Kawaii metal. With that said even Babymetal have grown what Kawaii metal is. Basically, it's a combination of JPOP and Metal. However, Babymetal have gone way beyond that simple model. They have somehow combined music genres that never really have been combined before and sometimes multiple genres at the same time. And it works for them. But they don't stop there as even their dance routines are a combination of dance styles. In time you will get to hear just how amazingly talented Su-metal, their lead singer is. As she can sing in a combination of vocal styles. Babymetals no one trick pony. As they're creating new tricks from song to song and album to album. First rule of Babymetal "Don't Think, Feel". They want you to feel the music shooting through you. Their songs hit even hard live so it's hard not to in concert. lol. Second if you find yourself feeling happier after listening to Babymetal. Don't worry this is only natural. This is the magic of Kawaii metal. Enjoy the rest of your journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. See You

I never heard of this group, but I decided to watch this morning (with my ☕️) because I saw the first sentence from a Commenter (Jeff Schreifels) that they are in fact Japanese & therefore J-Pop, which intrigued me. Like you John, I wondered what their ages were, so I looked them up. Sumetal (Suzuka) will be 25 in December, Moametal (Moa) and Yuimetal (Yui) are both 23. They were formed in 2010, so they were quite young (ages 11-12) at that time (teeny boppers)! They definitely are ‘cute’, which is why they are called a ‘kawaii’ metal band. The 2 Commenters here, Jeff Schreifels and Jake Muller, gave loads of information, which I didn’t know of. I never would have imagined that cute young Japanese women would’ve formed a metal band. I also read that the 3rd member, Yui, left the group in 2018 due to health reasons, so the remaining 2 (Suzuka & Moa) now perform with backup dancers. I probably won’t be following them, but this was very interesting to me!! I see why you would like them, John!👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫶🏼

Main Question you must ask yourself why did it take so long to listen to BabyMetal. As mentioned by Grington 300 300 Dreamcatcher are fans of BabyMetal there basically Kpops answer to BabyMetal ( as mentioned no Kpop here ) . Good but not even close in my opinion . You need to hear them and see them live they are even better . You mentioned the lead vocalist Su-Metal . She was recently voted 6th best female metal singer in the world. More better known Western vocalists beating her . The 2 other girls ( now women) are very accomplished singers and performers in there own right . But without Su vocals and incredible stage presence no BabyMetal . Although Moa and Yui are very important to BabyMetal as proven when Yui left through ill-health they had a hard time adjusting to her not being there . There is no one out there like BabyMetal. Many have tried and failed. BabyMetal are unique there is something really special about them . Hope you react to more BabyMetal and welcome to the Foxhole 🤘🦊🤘😁

Thanks from Japan, BABYMETAL's homeland 有難う💛。 BM is the best phenomenon in music I have ever experienced in my 67-year-long life. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

It's actually J-pop rather than K-pop. Su-metal's (Suzuka Nakamoto) voice is the foundation of Babymetal. Their producer, Kei Kobayashi, had an idea to combine the power of metal with the kawaii of j-pop and when he heard Su singing with her former group Karen Girls he knew that he had found a voice that would work across both genres. She also has the stage presence to command a crowd and when combined with Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi they make a compellingly original group. The final component is BM's amazing backing band, The Kami Band. BM started in 2010 as a sub-unit of the Amuse Talent Agency's school themed J-pop group, Sakura Gakuin. When BM started Su was 12 and Yui and Moa 10 and in this video they are probably around 18 and 16. Karate is all about fighting against foes both internal and external and the power of friendship to bring you through troubles. It's interesting that the obvious foes are not Japanese and are doing kung fu/Shaolin moves thus setting up the traditional karate vs kung fu conflict as shown in many martial arts movies. Karate is a great example of how BM can emotionally modulate a performance. They start out heavy and by the end it's more intimate and quiet drawing you in before slamming back into some metal riffs, soaring Su singing and a final quiet conclusion. Many songs start of quiet and get louder by the end to emphasize some sort of climax, but Karate turns that on it's head and the effect is to draw you in. It's an anthem that makes a lot of people cry. The payoff at the end is that the white robed figures are the girls themselves and you can even see a reflection of each girl in the eyes when their masks are shattered. So watch out for those personal demons and trust in your friends. Next check out "Headbanger - Legend 1997".

BABYMETAL are the originators of Kawaii Metal (Cute Metal) They mix JPop elements with every kind of metal genre and other genres as well. Every BABYMETAL song is different. You will hear djent, speed, Celtic, metalcore, rap, death metal, thrash, nu metal, power metal, industrial metal, prog, ska, folk metal, EDM and others! I am NOT kidding... one of their songs has 3 or more genres mixed in the same song!! BABYMETAL was formed around the lead singer Su-metal over 10 years ago. She is will be 25 this year and has been performing in some way since the age of 5!! There is a lot of info and later after a few videos you could watch CrypticMisery Guide to BABYMETAL. BABYMETAL has a few great official MVs (Karate, Megitsune, Iine (capital i, i, n, e) and Dokie Dokie Morning) which are worth watching but BABYMETAL excels LIVE. They have about 50 songs in their repertoire so you can't go wrong with any. Just don't watch BABYMETAL Death! (Legend 1997 show) until you have watched a few other videos first because you are not ready for that performance yet! 😇 BTW... the Legend 1997 refers to Su-metal's birth year. Ok I spoke too much, so I subbed to watch you fall into the Foxhole where we are waiting for you. (Lot of fox lore in BABYMETAL. The girls saw the metal devil horns people do with their hands and when they tried it, their middle fingers and thumb came to a point and made the hand look like a fox 🦊 that you see in a shadow play. At the end of Karate official MV you see them hold their hands this way. The producer thought that was a Kawaii metal way and flew with it, so you will see a ton of fox lore) 🤘🦊🤘

Great reaction, looking forward to your follow up reaction. Babymetal has part of their origin in J-Pop, but they are more a metal band, but clearly not your average metal band either. 🙂 The singer you mentioned is at the center of Babymetal. Karate is one of their most djenty songs, because what is interesting most Babymetal songs takes inspiration from a different metal sub-genre. And maybe the best part they are best live !

You might be surprised how much better this can still become. Not all of their songs are djenty like this, they cover a whole range of Metal subgenres mixed with all sorts of other musical genres. There are not many genres that they haven‘t touched. And somehow they always make it work perfectly. Looking forward to your next reaction!

Ahh the classic questions which as you can see the BM fans have answered. Karate is one of the very few MV fans suggest (the other is Megitsune). BM is however a LIVE band. They are better live! They literally step up the performance with live audiences. So yeah watch live videos (they have done Download festival several times, also Reading and even Glastonbury - though the sound engineer from the BBC sucked that day). We as fans have watched them grow from little girls (literally) to amazing young women. Most of their newer MV are simply from shows and their shows.. WOW! BM songs are not just songs - they are performances and the songs are often stories ) Karate is about facing your inner demons and fears and how we are stronger together to overcome. The dance, songs and lyrics are all tied together with meaning often. Also be aware they jump metal genres insanely and their songs are all very different. As to another song the classic "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" live at the Sonisphere Festival 2014 - this was there first taste of a large metal festival audience and their first large gig outside Japan and they are young (I think 17 for Su and just turned 15 for Yui and Moa). They were largely unheard by most metal fans back then - but they won a massive following that day and you can see why (and outsold every other band for merch that weekend!). And of course for a guitar fan it can only be Rondo of Nightmare with Mischief of the Gods intro (this is a specific live show from the legendary Budokan venue in Japan and the backing band - known as the Kami Band all have a chance to show off their skills - and oh by these are some of the best). For Su's voice I personally love No Rain, No Rainbow from Legend S - a show in her home town of Hiroshima for her 20th birthday which in japan is when you are considered and adult

First, Babymetal is a great live act, my recommend is when you do Babymetal songs you should do live version, since they're even better Live than in studio, instrumental are much harder Live, the vocal much better Live without processing effects. Next you should check out Headbanger (Live Legend 1997), Megitsune, or Road of Resistance (Official). Or you can check out Live version of this song - Karate live Download 2016

To answer your question of whether there are any other bands like Babymetal... yes, but not really. If you search around for kawaii metal, you will find several bands who try to imitate Babymetal either musically or aesthetically, and many of them are quite good (I am fond of Desurabbits [Deathrabbits] and Iron Bunny). But all of them try to stick within the confines of the kawaii metal genre, whereas Babymetal keep pushing its boundaries, and even transcend them sometimes (an impressive accomplishment for the inventors of the genre). Enjoy your journey!

You need to check out how good they are live. Babymetal fans always recommend that people watch Babymetal live performances because that is where they truly shine. If you think they are good in a music video, you will be blown away by how they deliver live on stage and how hard the crowds go off. Babymetal's repertoire is surprisingly diverse because they like to play around with elements of other genres in their songs, so its hard to pin them down to one sound. The following are a few of their more classically metal songs that you might like to check out: Gimme Chocolate, Headbanger, Megitsune, Road of Resistance, Catch Me If You Can.

As a Japanese, I will tell you one thing. BABYMETAL is not a fusion of Kpop. Kpop is Korean music. We are Japanese. Dreamcatcher is a Korean music group, right? Well, I know that Kpop seems to be popular all over the world. And I respect that other genres of Korean contents are winning some awards in the US. I like some Korean movies, and I'm glad as a fan of BM that you like it, but I will say this, BM will never make their hips shake obscenely like Kpop. On the contrary, I love BM because they don't do that and they play with their music. Well, Dreamcatdher seems not to do it so much... Excuse me but thank you from Japan.

I am so stoked you are checking out BABYMETAL! Had a feeling you would enjoy it! The inspiration for BABYMETAL was to create a new genre of ‘kawaii’ + ‘metal’. This is a group you should absolutely watch live (their session band - KAMIBAND kill it live!), although their MVs are a lot of fun too. Unfortunately they do not add subtitles to their videos, and some videos get blocked by their company. Not all the songs are as deep, but carrying good messages and positive energy and are just very enjoyable to listen to. And pretty much all their songs have high choreography so are really entertaining to watch. Su-Metal is my favourite Japanese vocalist. She is flawless in every performance. A great song to check out would be Road of Resistance- (Official Live in Japan), gives me goosebumps every time!

Su-Metal's voice is angelic and will fit in a symphonic metal band (Epica is the one that comes to mind or something like that) even dough, there is not a proper comparison since they are their own genre. Great reaction, thanks! Yeah... Su-metal is an amazing vocalist. And wait until you watch and listen to the live performances. Yep, she's a killer in the recording booth but on stage she's called the Queen. And it's for a very good reason. "Karate" is on their poppier side even structurally. But that initial riff comes from nowhere and hits you like a bus. The lyrics are serious and meaningful, basically about resilience. They have a huge range from cute and funny (but always metal infused) to seriously metal and even dark. I'd like to suggest you "Headbanger" particularly the live version from the Legend 1997 concert. And one more thing: expect the unexpected and prepare to be surprised. Welcome and enjoy tour BABYMETAL journey! Until next time!

Quick 2 cents: They span just about every genre of metal, not many of their songs sound alike, but if you pick a few songs to listen to, be aware they have fast/slow/heavy/ballad/prog/hip-hop/pop/metal/electronic mixed in to every album. You can expect the unexpected. They have been around over 10 years and officially started at 14/15 Y.O. so their music AND their vocal abilities have progressed with them.

They invented the Kwai metal genre. They have been in hiatus since 2019 but have been letting little pieces out of new stuff. If you want to see a classic live then you must see their first ever international live at Sonisphere UK 2014 with the song Ijime, Dame, Zettai. The significance of this was they were on a main stage and there were thousands of metalheads waiting to celebrate or destroy this new band? from Japan. Be careful though as their Amuse management love destroying Reactors with copyright hits. Yet some are still up so good luck.
