Hello! I read a post about this song that after Lionel Ritchie heard Dimash’s version of Hello, he had his attorneys restrain Dimash from ever singing it again. Dimash- our Prince of World Peace;) Lionel Ritchie should feel honored that Dimash wanted to sing Hello!
From what I've heard, Ritchie did give Dimash props for this performance but you still have to get permission to perform someone else's song in a show like this.
There is no evidence on the internet of this. LR asked his lawyers about Adele’s version but it was about the title of the song and they said he has no patent on the title of the song hello. There is nothing anywhere on Dimash and LR having a conflict on the song
This was the year after he competed. He was an honored guest performer, not a contestant. I have this on recording and blast thru the whole house!! 😎 p.s. DQ refers to his voice "as my instrument", not my voice.

Wonderful. What a beautiful cover. He even makes the covers he sings his own and brings his own elements to the song that you would never expect. He is so awesome. I grew up with Hello by Lionel Richie. I loved this song. But to be honest, I like Dimash’s version much better. Sorry Lionel. The melismas give me goosebumps without end. At the end he says “I love you” in Mandarin and then in Kazakh. This performance took place in 2018 in the same competition where he appeared in 2017. In 2018 he was a guest. The people in the background were singers and the audience (they are the jury-members). Unfortunately, Lionel Richie banned Dimash from singing the song again and I dont know if that’s still the case today. The flute is called Sygyzgy and is mainly played in the Kyrgyz and Kazakh regions. According to Wikepedia it is traditionally played by shepherd horse herders. A wonderful sound. Haven't you seen Dimash singing "Show Must Go On" from Queen yet? Well... he made it justice. I mean, Freddie would be clapping frenetically! It was his 1st time singing in English at I Am Singer. He had to learn the lyrics phonetically - so don't expect a perfect pronunciation. The older man in a white shirt, sitting in the back room is called Tengri. Dimash does a fantastic duet with him called Swan Goose. They perform it with a Mongolian throat singing group. It’s very unusual, with up beat and slow portions of the song. They both change languages during the song too. Some of Dimash’s collaborations are really fun. Drunken Concubine with Li Yugang, is a mash up with Diva Dance, Thanks for your reaction, You have such a soothing voice.
This was the bonus episode, so they weren't really competing, its a benefit show for charity. I think that year was for the environment. Dimash absolutely made that song his own. What you don't see here is Jessie J was backstage listening to him sing and was amazed.

At the end of the second verse, Dimash sang "I love you" in Mandarin ("Wo ai ni") to the Chinese audience, and again in the third verse, adding "I love you" in Kazakh, before whispering "Thank you" in Mandarin at the end. Dimash beautifully incorporates Middle Eastern?Turkish runs in the song. His friend, Erlan Bekchurin, did the musical arrangement for this performance, as well as most of his other arrangements. The flute is called a sybyzgy, a traditional Kazakh flute, and precursor to the modern flutes. This is my favorite rendition of the song; even better than the original in my humble opinion.

Also towards the end of this performance , the camera cuts to a guy wearing a tan jacket with a darker shirt . This is Jam , the lead singer for the Chinese band Lion and now a good friend of Dimash. Check out his expression and then remember he heard all 13 performances of Dimash from the 2017 I Am Singer. He and the Lion band placed third on The Singer in 2017. (. The Arab Man cut out the melismas from the video and only talks about them later on. I don’t understand why he did that (unless his reaction was too powerful to that and he didn’t want the world to see it).
@ Ellana Ts......I was so shocked and disappointed when I discovered The Arab Man had cut out the Melissa part!! 😢😢 I wrote him a note asking why but haven't heard back. Maybe it was because he said that Dimash had just totally blown away all the singers in his country, at something , the taleen, that is their thing. So sad!! 😔😔
Hello John how clever of you that you noticed the language change Dimash did not sing this song in the competition, he performed it a year later, in 2018, as a special guest lionel richie banned dimash from singing the song again dimash says i love you in kazakh english and chinese mandarin brilliantly replaced the English "I Love You" with the Chinese Wo-Ai-Ni, meaning the same thing. Sybyzgy flute [made of wood 50 cm with 3-7 holes] gives a touch of mystique to the song. cordial greetings from the netherlands

If you want to do other songs that you are familiar with and that are in English, great options are The Show Must Go On (from Singer 2017), and All By Myself. I think you'll really enjoy both and find new aspects to Dimash's performing. Apart from the changes of composition, Dimash is sooo good at bringing the meaning of every word - it's happens because of re- phrasing - he does it to all of of the songs he covers. Extraordinary!!!!
Yes, Dimash puts his own unique and expert stamp on this favourite. It's important to understand that at this time Dimash had very little conversational English, and learned all the words phonetically.
