Unlucky Morpheus came about after Fuki and Shiren were in a band together that did cover songs of video game songs split up. Fuki told Shiren, that she had enjoyed working with him and hoped to do so again, so they started Unlucky Morpheus in 2008. To start with it was just a side project with just the 2 of them doing rearangements of a Japanese video game they both liked and played, called Touhou. Slowly over the years they have added members to the band, the last to join was Jill (violin) in 2016, there are 7 members in all, but normaly you only see 6. The other member is a male singer, Kasumi, he does some of the Touhou Arangement concerts they do and normally dresses in something realy odd, things the other members are not expecting. They only started to their own songs in 2014/2015 with Shiren writing the music and Fuki the lyrics. The bassist is really a jazz musician, and was the protege of Fujioka Mikio, who you may know from Babymetal's Kami band. Shiren started out playing pinao when he was very young, he also does Guitars, Harsh vocals, Bass, Keyboards, Programming, Drums, Percussion, Arrangement, Composition, Trumpet and various other instruments. A lot of people look on them as a supergroup which is both right and wrong. In the west a supergroup is when members of other bands get together and play. In Japan, because the Japanese metal scene is very small, so hard to make money from it, a lot of artists play in several bands at the same time. Shiren used to play in a few others, but gave them up due to his illness (Tenosynovitis), but kept going with Unlucky Morpheus as it is his own band. Fuki, well she just loves to work and is all over the place. In 15-years she has been involved in over 90 releases mostly album. she is in 2 bands the other is a side project, she also has a solo career and has done a load of guest appearances with other bands, but looks on UM as her main band. Fumiya (drummer) has worked with a few other bands and was a member of Galneryus untill about 3 months ago, and UM is now his only band. Appart from the bassist UM is their main band and do go and do other things with other bands. So they have gone from side porject to a full time band. One of the things you have to realise about metal in Japan is that it does have, what could be called a normal sized metal scene, but it's for western bands. If you go into a metal bar in Japan you only hear music from western band and they will not play anything Japanese otherwise they'll go out of bussiness. So the Japanese metal band scene is very small. Since Babymetal broke on to the western world and made it big, a lot of Japanese metal bands are starting to realise that the is a market out side Asia for them, so are slowly starting to come and play in the west. Unlucky Morpheus are one of those bands that has realised that they are starting to get popular, and more importanly overseas as well, as you seem to have to get known in the west to be able to get big in Japan, and want to do a world tour. I was lucky and saw them in London last year at a Japanese metal festival, the 1st time they have played out side Japan, in 2018 was the 1st time they ever did a tour of Japan. They have to be one of the best bands I have seen live, and what you see and hear in their videos, they can do live as well. As with a lot of metal bands in Japan UM have their own record label and self release, so if you want a phyical copy of their stuff you have to import it from Japan, which cost an arm and a leg to import, and UM release 1 or 2 albums/DVD's a year. They have 18 full albums and have done a few collaborations + some singles/mini albums. Maybe one of the reasons why Japanese videos seem to do more in their videos compaired to western band, is the Visual Kei movement, where it's not just about what you hear but also, about what you see. Visual Kei is a A-sexual movement, so you can get men dressing in female clothes and the other way around. Visual Kei bands tend to be heavy, but can be all over the place musicly and their videos have a lot of visual content, to the point of being weired and strange. The reason Shiren (harsh vocals) isnt on guitar full time in this song is because he has a health problem on his wrist (Tenosynovitis) and he cant play for long periods of time anymore, so some guitar parts are instead played by Jill (violin). In live shows Shiren plays a few songs and then rest for a couple songs, but dont count him out as he is the brains of the band, the main composer and a world class guitarist. This band is amazing, and you'll se that as you listen to more of them. Lovebites, Band Maid and UM top 3 bands out of Japan for me easily! Ill recommend you check out Black Pentagram MV from them. Best band ever. And Fuki, the vocalist is absolute legend of the japanese metal. Another legendary japanese metal vocalist is Yama-B, to check him out listen to Galneryus - New Legend, he has very specific voice, he was also in bands Iron Attack and Gunbridge

Shiren is the guy on the harsh vocals. He is the composer and a great guitarist but he have a condition and can't play much so they're incomporating more of his harsh vocals in the most recent songs so he don't need to get the guitar that much. In the live concerts he would play the guitar in some songs and only do the screaming on many others. Fuki, the female vocalist, is a metal legend in Japan, I love her singing but I think she shows off it better in some other songs. She is the one doing their costumes too! You can get a better sense of the band watching "CADAVER/REVADAC" with music sheets (guitars, violin and vocals use the same notes forward and then backwards) or maybe the live version of "Angreifer" or "Knight of Sword". They released recently a song in english where they pay tribute to André Matos (Angra, Shaman) who passed away last year. If you want more all female bands, you could try SCANDAL (they're very versatile, going from pop rock to pop punk, ska, hard rock, etc), starting from "A.M.D.K.J." or "Freedom Fighters". NEMOPHILA is another super band, they have only one MV for now, "Raitei", and they're amazing! DOLL$BOXX is another band where Fuki sings, start from "Shout Down". Mary's Blood is pretty good too, especially the song "Death Queen's March". Maybe ZETTAI CLUB (song "夢幻大スリラー"). BAND-MAID is a hard rock band you have to see live, maybe starting from "Play" or "Domination". Mutant Monster is more to punk/pop punk, try the "Abnormal" MV. And I guess it's enough bands to keep going from all-female japanese bands.

2 women in the band, Fuki vocalist and Jill Violin, Shiren on scream also plays keyboards and guitar but his has a medical condition in his hand so he has to take it easier now. All of them were or are still in other bands as UM was only a side project at the beginning to make Touhou game music arrangements, they are all video game nerds like myself. They have over 30 albums out since 2008 and Fuki has been on over 90 (Light Bringer, Dragon Guardian, Fuki Commune, Doll$boxx and multiple collabs like the last 1 Shred Racers) If you really want to see what they are capable of, react to Cadaver/Revadac with sheet music. Going blind in this one is best imo to avoid spoiling the reveal of what happens

CADAVER/REVADAC song from this band which i think a masterpiece. Essentially the 1st part is CADAVER & the 2nd part is REVADAC which is a reverse of CADAVER not just the name but musical composition as well.
