This was the official start of the BU but as I often talk about we flesh out their charcters by watching the videos before this. They met at school (N.O, Boy with Love) they served detention and served it in an old classroom (music room). So here though they spend time away from each other and with their families and "start" the BU. This was set after most of them (all but JK) were out of school. JK was hurting because the guys were busy with their lives and weren't paying attention to JK so he was getting bullied. V was dealing with the DV of his father towards him and his sister. Jimin was put in a hospital because of his trauma. J-Hope was also traumatized by his mother leaving him so he thought he had narcolepsy. Suga was depressed because he knew the fire was set by his mother and her depression and RM was working hard and sending money back to his mom because his dad was sick. He lived in a train car. Jin had just come back from America and saw all this trauma and wanted to save his brothers.
It's in one of the short films. It happens at a carnival, she says close your eyes puts a snicker in his hand then dips. That's why Hobi's curled in the fetal position laying on a bed of Snickers in broken down carnival rides store room or whatever, in fake love 💜 borahae Army's let's try Not to spoil tooo much I have hope of him doing the story. It'd be so fun! 💜
花様年華 is the album title, also called "화양연화" or "The Most Beautiful Moment In Life". We call it HYYH because in Korean, it is pronounced Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa. It is the HYYH trilogy, with HYYH pt1, HYYH pt2, and Epilogue: Young Forever Albums. it is the official start in BTS second era as well as the official start of the BU. So, when you see 花様年華 it means it's from the albums. In physical copies, you can find 花様年華 Notes in all of their albums after HYYH was released. These are from the BU I became an ARMY in early 2015 and I get so happy to see others react to the mvs from then. These meant so much to me that I got a 花様年華 tattoo back then too. Thank you for reacting to these💜 I'm so glad that they are still including 花様年華 notes in all their albums and still carrying it on. I'm sure chapter 2 will start fresh, but either way, I'm just happy that the BU was more than just HYYH era. I still vividly remember how we all were frantically trying to figure out the story, only to be given more and more as time went one. It was such a crazy and magical time. I absolutely loved it If you want to know the official timeline (as stated by BigHit) while avoiding spoilers, here is all of the things you need to dive into the BU!! BU summons me lol.... This was what got me into BTS.... It was so interesting, whenever BTS dropped literally anything, the fandom went full detective mode, read philosophy, mythology, astrology books, I learnt SO Much during these times just to figure out parts of the storyline.... All we had to go on was notes and these vague mv's and certain things that would come up in every MV.... It was difficult but so much fun lol I miss those days
The BU is incredible! The visual storytelling is absolutely AMAZING, and the guys' acting is phenomenal. It's a long and deep journey, but it really is worth it!!!!
For You is one of their 12? "Japanese Only" songs and it is such a cute story in the mv. This never had subs but if you check Enjoy BTS More, she has done this with English subs. I so struggle with I Need You because I just can't unsee what V is doing in the mv. The song itself is so pretty. 2015 was such a great year for BTS, as they finally won a music show and things only accelerated from there.
Pet theory about Army. The Bu traumatized us so much seeing how hurt they are separated vs happy together which is how BTS is. Stronger together. So the enlistment and them separated is giving us BU flashbacks because we can’t handle them being apart 😂💜💜😂. No but seriously the whole BU is an incredible piece of art ambitious in its scope. I desperately want a BTS movie.
This is why I love our boys so much. Each song evokes so many different feelings in me. A total natural high every single time ! Such amazing talent. Thanks again John for an always awesome reaction !!!! Looking forward to the next set x 💜🙏💜🙏💜🙏💜 Borahae
Yoongi had the Accident way before debut he didn't tell management for fear of being kicked out and no way of paying his college tuition so kept quiet until years later when he couldn't bare the pain anymore.
The BU aside, the video has some very deep meanings to it. They're showing how so many people hide the reality of the pain in their private lives and only show happiness and contentment to others. Most of the guys have no idea about what the others are going through. Also, each of the boys represent a major issue that people, particularly teenagers and young adults, face. JK ran away from home and is homeless. RM represents poverty. Jimin is depression. Yoongi is suicidal thoughts. Hobi is drug addiction, including prescription drugs, and Taehyung is domestic violence. BTS has this ability to create a single song and it's music video that can represent multiple meanings and messages. The lyrics in this should be "I need you, friend" but "girl" sounded better. The song is about a toxic relationship but can be interpreted in other ways. The MV is the BU, the specific issues that people face, the way we never know what someone is going through in private, as well as however people may personally interpret the MV and lyrics of the song. There's a hell of a lot to unpack here, and that's before you actually get into the BU.
For You really has nothing to do with the BU. It's off they Japanese single album. So that is why it is different from I Need U, Run etc. I think at the time Suga being a delivery driver is a coincidence, as the boys all take on different jobs. And if I am not mistaken the company knew about Suga's part time job but didn't know about his accident till much later. Hope this helps.
I Thank you for such good reactions. I have literally cried watching these videos, even though I know them by heart. BTS is very important in my life, I have changed a lot since 2016, thanks to them. They have filled my heart with so much love. My admiration has no limits
I agree! Their acting skills are so good. I always said that V could play an awesome villain that everyone can't help but love because he has an unreadable poker face that looks intimidating. Now i have added Suga to that list because of his portrayal of the King in Daechwita and now Haegeum. I love the mv of For You. It's so sweet how his brothers saved up their own money from work to send JK to see his girl. Wow, watching these old videos and how much younger they were brings a smile to my face 😊 ARMY, What is the order of songs in the BU?
The BU is absolutely incredible but also super confusing at times. It crosses music videos, games, a whole ass comic on webtoon, notes from albums, etc. The BU is extensive and super hard to understand sometimes. There’s so much content when it comes to the BU. I think you’ll really love it!
This series of videos is so phenomenal. I Need You is one of my absolute favorites of theirs from a cinematic and symbolic standpoint. A small thing like Taehyung’s hood being up or down in a scene changes the meaning, and I loooove that. And then there’s Dope which is one of the best hype dances ever!!! Looking forward to seeing you dive into the BU.
I had to go back and check, but in I Need U, when RM drops the lollipop from his mouth, it hits the cash on the ground as a cigarette. I had heard that lollipops often stand in for cigs because it's frowned upon, especially for idols, which makes the smoking in Haegeum even more of a potent gesture. Love this format, and your reactions, as always! ^_^
When you saw JK's girl with her bike, did anyone else think of the bicycles and little girl in Jin's Astronaut? There's a behind-the-scenes video with captions for the I Need U mv. It is upbeat and sometimes funny, which helps balance out the violence and sadness of the mv in my memories. 💜
Hi John and family, good morning from the UK. Thank you for going back to our 7Boys' roots. Actually, they sang deep and meaningful songs then....so tight...so dedicated...so good but funny too.
The bu was always confusing af to me since it spans over so many different media (comics, novellas, mvs, short films) but theres a youtube video by Xceleste "bts storyline summary+ explained 2020 update" that saved my life, that you can check out once your done exploring on your own !
Oh this is your first time hearing “for you”? I could have sworn you reacted to this but I also don’t have a great memory so I’m probably wrong lol. I definitely think you should react to the choreography version of this MV tho if you get a chance 😯the full choreo itself is so beautiful and elegant (there are a lot of parts that remind me of the waltz and different ballroom type dances). They really outdid themselves with this one honestly I’m so impressed with whoever choreographed this one back then 😁👌🏾💜
There's a lot of material comprising the BU and I've only been an ARMY since 2020, so I cheated a bit and watched X Celeste's video explaining it. A word of warning ... have a box of tissues ready! I know there's a lot of speculation as to whether the Film Out video was included in the BU. I'm curious to know/find out if they will continue or finish the story when they come back together in '25. For You is such a sweet song. There's a choreo video too, it reminds me a lot of 50s Doo-Wop .
The words at the start of the MV roughly translate to "the most beautiful moment in life" which is the name of the albums, but also the name of this chapter of the BU (the second chapter is called the map of the soul)
'For You' mv is about a long-distance relationship. It was a song for Japanese fans who didn't see it often at the time. It shows the members trying to help Jungkook, who is earning money by doing part-time work to go see his lover, and I know that one of the common jobs, delivery driver, is Suga, who has experience driving a bike.
John Suga did mentioned it to the members that he was a delivery driver. I think it was on either break the silence or burn the stage.. It when Jungkook's health wasn't good in Chile.
to note: I don't remember where I read this but I believe those were Namjoon's words and he said that originally a chorus for I need U was meant to be "I need you friend", which makes even more sense in the whole BU
Also the fact that all the japanese versions also have hints to the BU in their MVs... maybe check them out and the japanese releases in general like Dont Leave Me
Xceleste has a great video that condenses the BU. But after the guys announced Chapter 2 , I’ve been going back and handwriting some of their older English translated lyrics. (I find it a relaxing and mindful practice.) And I often find a deeper meaning to many of the songs without trying to tie them to the BU. It’s been a lot of fun. And while the BU is interesting and fun, I believe each song can easily stand alone.
For You as one of Japanese songs is one of my favorites. I have a special place in my heart fo BTS's Japanese releases. You should check them out John I think you would like them. Not as a Rocker, but they are mellow.
Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Yes, love I Need U. It's a fav. THE MV IS PART OF THEIR HIDDEN BU STORYLINE IN SOME OF THEIR SONGS. So it's a lot. But they won their 1st award after this song. This is the start of the BU yes. The whole entire MV is the BU storyline. This story is deep complex and heartbreaking. This MV depicts suicide, overdose, and the hardships of life. It shows that when they are together they are happy and have no worries. But each one is hiding baggage and are suffering alone. This song resonated with fans and this story is why BTS are the best. Suga was the one on the bed and burned the room. V killed his dad who was hurting his sis. So we got physical abuse. JK did not fight back because he wanted the pain. They were beating up JK because he bumped into them. He is in pain because he lost his friend. Suga killed himself in the fire. Jimin is depressed and tried to kill himself by drowning in the tub. Hobi overdosed. RM is upset because he lost his friends and is alone. Jin is really important in the story and not spoiling... =0p So BTS never sings about girls. Not really. In this case girl means friend. Oh yes JK did get hit by a car. Love the song its a banger. But oh boy is the MV complex and deep. This song got them more notice in US and Korea. They won their 1st award for this song. This was huge! They really let the cat out of the bag with this story. Glad u liked the song. =0] Hugs. -2019 ARMY NY USA 💜 ᴊɪɴɪᴍɪɴʀᴏʟʟꜱ said on 11/27/21; I'm saying this again so that you don't forget the order of the BU universe!! . One of the first things fans learn about BTS is they don't mess around when it comes to their music videos. Each of the group's visuals is stunning, and they never fail to leave the viewer thinking about its possible meaning behind it. As new fans start to piece together BTS' music videos, they begin to realize that many of them actually connect. The overarching storyline is known as the Bangtan Universe(BU), and it exists not just in BTS' visuals, but in their webtoons and short stories as well. Since it can get pretty complicated, here's every BTS video that's in the Bangtan Universe. . To summarize, the BU involves a fictional storyline that has all the BTS members playing their own character. These characters have their own backstory, but they all connect in some way. If you see certain scenes or symbols repeating in BTS' music videos, that's because fans concluded the story involves some very shocking stuff that I ain't spoiling, you have to figure the story out yourself😂. It can be difficult trying to differentiate which videos are part of the BU, but according to fans, those that belong to this world will have the words "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment" at the bottom of the video's description. However, just because some videos don't have it, doesn't mean they're not connected. According to fans, here's every BTS video that's in the BU. THE BU UNIVERSE VIDEOS IN ORDER THAT YOU HAVE TO REACT TO- . 1. "I Need U" MV (original version) 2. HYYH On Stage: Prologue 3. "Run" MV 4. "I Need U" MV (Japanese version) [its not really necessary to watch this but if you wanna get more details i guess you can watch it.] 5. "Run" MV (Japanese version) [this is also not necessary unless u want more details] 6. Epilogue: Young Forever 7. Wings short films {1.Begin, 2.Lie, 3.Stigma, 4.First Love, 5.Reflection, 6.Mama, 7.Awake} 8. "Blood Sweat &Tears" MV 9. "Blood Swear &Tears" MV (Japanese version) [its necessary this time.] 10. Love Yourself Highlight Reels 11. Euphoria: Theme Of Love Yourself Wonder 12. "Fake Love" teasers 13. "Fake Love" MV (Extended version) 14. Jin's "Epiphany" 15. "Film out" MV [BTS' "Film Out" doesn't have anything about the BU listed in its video description, but ARMYs are convinced it's still part of the group's fictional world. Since it makes many references toward their "Fake Love" MV, fans think "Film Out" takes place in an alternate universe, which could explain its connection to the rest of BTS' visuals without being directly involved in the BU] After watching all of these and making your own theories you must wanna know the whole real story right? Then you should watch the whole storyline summary + explained by xCeleste. [Watch the recent one] link- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2-DEu3ZJtEU.html Saladita12 said on 8/23/22 When RM wrote the lyrics he wrote "I need u friend", but if you sing it like that it doesn't sound good, so he changed it to "I need u girl", but the real meaning is that I need u friend, so it's a breakup song and at the same time it fits into the story they're doing. So there's a thing called BTS Universe. It's a story line. You need to watch all the MV's in order to understand it and "I NEED U" is the first part of the storyline. It's almost like a puzzle but lemme tell you it will blow your mind. The storyline itself is very deep and YES it includes Fake Love! RM - works in a gas station, the clients treat him like shit (throwing money on the ground instead of giving it to him, etc) and imagery of him smoking. Jin - in a room alone, the flower petals start burning, he is a very important character in the storyline. (All the MVs under the same storyline can be found by looking at the description of the videos, they are marked with "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment"). Suga - in a motel, missing someone (scene in the bed), buys gasoline and burns the room with himself inside (suicide). J-Hope - is sick and needs meds (apparently suffers from narcolepsy, he actually has munchausen’s syndrome), but abuses the drugs and passes out in the sidewalk of a road from an overdose Jimin - in the bathtub burning a photo, he seems in distress and scared, tries to drown himself V - catches his dad (the dad is the alcoholic one, not V) abusing his sister, in anger and adrenaline attacks his dad and accidentally kills him Jungkook - gets into street fights, seems to not care about anything (depression), ends up being hit by a car at the end.
A little hint to watch for in any of the videos especially ones going forward, watch for breaking glass, it is a given that this song will be a part of the BU. Not telling you anymore than that. LOL
Noooo! I'm having heart palpitations cuz you missed the end of Run 😭🤦♀️😁 Go back, you'll need the clues lol. By the way onstage prologue (a short film with Butterfly as the soundtrack) goes between I Need You and Run, then Young Forever. I guess that doesn't work so well with your videos by year project but when you decide to really do the BU you might want to restart. It's confusing AF lol. It's also ok to just enjoy the songs for their own sake 💜
Every video that is part of the BU is marked as such in the video description. I always love your reactions, but I thought you knew by now to wait until the very end!
Taehyung was actually cast in a drama called Hwarang Suga was in the accident before they even debuted. I think it was back in 2012...and he had that job secretly. After the accident he apparently lied about the cause and said that he fell down stairs. because he was apparently not allowed to have another job other than his work at BigHit...but he still had to pay for school so he delivered food on the side. i'm not sure when he told the members and BigHit the truth...but yeah. Suga was in pain every day.
Suga had the accident where he suffered a shoulder injury in 2012 but he didn’t told anyone about it fearing that wouldn’t be able to debut with BTS. And the Korean Hangul means Flower tree if Google translate is correct, John.
You should check out the LIVE PERFORMANCES AND DANCE PRACTICES OF THESE SONGS. ALL AMAZING! CHECK OUT THESE SONGS TOO HOLD ME TIGHT LET ME KNOW LOVE IS NOT OVER WISHING ON A STAR LIGHTS
Thank you very much for this reaction. I found your channel while watching Dimash's reaction videos. I occasionally listen to KPOP and appreciate your reaction video to BTS. Please, will you do a reaction video to another South Korean group ( Not KPOP) called Forestella? They have done a lot of different renditions of well-known songs like Bad Romance ( Lady Gaga), Shape of You (Ed Sheeran), We Are The Champions, and Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen), but, two of my favorite songs of them are Save Our Lives and a song called Champions.
Cont... Hi, i am back. Good reaction(FOR YOU), ty. I am glad u liked this one. Such lovely vocals. Sweet choreo too. Love their fits in this one. They all looked great. This one feels like the same vibe as another song. They smooth with it. Also, Aegyo is very big in Korea. And many groups create songs with that in mind. So this one to me is within that genre if u want to call it that. =0p Suga had the accident in his trainee days. Before 2013. So they might have known. He might have suggested it. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💜 Good reaction(Dope), ty. Love this song. Adore the choreo and fits. It's JK singing the high note actually. In the early vids its was Jimin but slowly JK got more of these parts and as u watch more everyone on the vocal line can hit highs'. JK is center so he gets the most lines and has the most stable voice. Jimin has the highest voice but the others are great too. Though on the recording it maybe Jimin who is singing the high, hmm. The more u hear them the more u will get used to their voices. In Dope Jin was a doc. V was Conan the detective from an anime/manga. Jimin was a businessman to me. Here are the lyrics for Dope doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/?s=dope . Pls check this site for the lyrics they are accurate. As/hleyder/ said on 1/18/21 The Korean word that is translated into "Dope" for the title of this song doesn't really mean "dope" in the way we, as English speakers, would interpret that word. It is a somewhat weak translation that loses a lot of the important double meaning of the Korean word used in my opinion. The word they actually use would be more accurately translated as "sick", a word that has more of a double meaning in English as both something that is really cool ("That's so sick, man!") and also a negative physical experience. The Korean word literally means drenched in sweat or something to that extent (mind you, I am not Korean, I got this from watching a reaction by some older Korean men), but is now used as slang by younger Koreans to mean "awesome". So they are both saying they are really awesome, but they are also saying they are working their butts off. I've noticed in a lot of commentary videos, they often pair Dope and Baepsae together as an example of songs in which they are talking about the struggles of their generation. And the fact that Dope and Baepsae are also the two songs in which they explicitly refer to the "three giving-up generation" and the "five giving-up generation" (in RM's solo) I think that this song while obviously talking about how hard they themselves have worked is also probably a commentary on how hard their generation is having to work. Based on that, I think they are intentionally reflecting various careers to give a nod to all the people who are working really, really hard in their careers while others are out partying. The "we" becomes more collective, then. "Those of us who are working our butts off while everyone else is partying ... we're awesome." So in RM's verse he says (no idea about accuracy of translation, again, not Korean, lol). "Given up on 3? Given up on 5?? I like the number 6. How about giving up on 6?" The older generations in Korea, as well as the Korean media, often refer to millennials as the generation that has given up. It started out as having given up three things, courtship, marriage, and childbirth. Then it advanced to a word that means they'd given up on five things, thereby adding employment and home ownership. Eventually it jumped to seven things when they added that they had given up on relationships and even hope. That's why RM adds in his verse that he'll stop at 6 (after making some weird word play that I don't totally understand that involves beef ...) and then says, "Can I get a little bit of hope?" Basically saying they refuse to give up on everything. Then he calls out the older generations/media for condemning them while they are working so hard and he calls out the millennials for just taking it and tells them to take their energy, they aren't alone, don't give up, take some hope, wake up and go. I've never actually watched an explanation video for Dope, so this is what I've personally pieced together based on explanations I've heard about some of the words/phrases used in the song, so somebody else may know more. But I think people tend to focus on the dancing a lot in this song and disregard the lyrics mostly because there is a lot of meaning lost in translation for this one. Good reaction(RUN), ty. Really like this song. It is such a bop. =0] I suggest you check out xCeleste's storyline explanations after you finish the storyline. That is so helpful. JK was hit by the car 100%. The last scene is super important. JK smiles looking at us but who was he looking at. Watch the MV again pls. =0p This one was important. V survived his jump is how i interpret that. Jimin tried to kill himself in the bath and he met up with Hobi in the hospital psych ward so they alive. The car attack Army told me was them looking for the car that dissed RM. So glad you liked the song too. That was the album name The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 2. =0) I just got that Nirvana shirt. =0p This is the 3rd video in the BU storyline! Nanah Art said on 3/28/23 Fun fact: Tae wrote the melody for the bridge and Jk wrote the lyrics for the bridge. RM, Suga and Jhope are also credited in the song💜💜💜
Hi John, yeah BU is incredible 💜💜💜 I love this and I hope you will check the story line movie... Love your reactions, not just BTS..my boifriend is crazy metal fan 🙈🤩
Again, try to watch the Japanese versions of these songs as well. You won't be able to react to them here because of copyright strikes, but they help you to understand.
Wait, I just realized... You did Epilogue: Young Forever in 2016, but you didn't include HYYH on stage: Prologue for 2015. It's for their other song Butterfly and it's such a good MV that you missed 😭
24:20 many i armys don't know about this, in this part the roadblocked drivers do not react to the actions of the boys and just speak. "You bastard, get out of the car"
I know this is about BTS, but I wanted to ask if you could check out Dreamcatcher, they are a girl kpop group who mix rock and edm in their music. They're amazing, I really recommend their songs.
@ 20:29 - RM is shown w a loli (which represents a cigarette) and a tall cup of coffee that shows where he turned into an adult, his loss if innocence per se 😢
Me to I get confused about the BU you need to read the books /wee toon, see the MV's and I think there is a Manga (I'm not sure) then the story stopped at the end which is not the end of the story 🤔🤔 I don't know I'm still confused about it until this day
NO. Yoongi didnt tell the boys that he was a delivery boy and he had an accident. He told them he fell down the stairs that's why his shoulder hurts. Even Bang PD didnt know about it until years later.
Maybe you need to watch and do reaction for Bts Universe story line in MOT album. I m new Army also curious abt this. If you can do live video n discussions abt this among us.. should be more exciting..😅😅😊😊
@@C_l0v3r This is so not true. Have you seen his content on BTS. He's been invested in them since he dived down the rabbit hole and his reactions have been 100% genuine to the point of him crying. He also not long ago met up with 2 other big BTS creators.
I dont think he is aware of it at the moment. He was just concentrating on actual MV released in 2015. Someone has put in the comments all the BU content in chronological order so hopefully he can go back and watch that before moving on. I remember watching alot of BU MVs without even realising there was a whole connecting storyline and certainly didn't know about prologue, epilogue, highlight reel, Japanese versions etc.. I had to start from scratch once I realised.
