Understanding metalanguage is fundamental to being able to write well. The words ‘verb’, ‘noun’ and ‘adjective’ are all examples of metalanguage - words we use to describe other words.
As part of their school improvement plan, North Adelaide Primary School teachers have applied the primary literacy guidebooks in their teaching of metalanguage to give students the tools to improve their writing.
