Very helpful video! I'm an electric guitar beginner, just bought my Ibanez AZES 2 days ago with the intention of learning metal and rock.. I've found it hard to get my guitar to really have that metal-y/rock kick to it with the amp like you do, though. I'm currently playing on some crappy beginner one but am awaiting a peavy vypyr 30w soon. How can I set up amp settings to have that twang?

Hey bro! A lot of the tone is from EQ and the actual quality of the equipment you're using, especially pickups and amp settings. For me, rhythm tones are best on the bridge pickup or 2nd position with an SSS/HSS setup. For the Amp, I like Bass at about 10:00, Mid around 1:00 and Treble at 1:00 or lower if you have a high output pickup or if it's still too sharp sounding at that level. Presence I keep lower between 10:00-1:00, and I push my Master to around 2:00-3:00. If anything is too much or little, just adjust accordingly. If your sound is too muddy and bassy, Lower the bass and increase the treble. If it's too sharp sounding, lower the Treble and boost the mids. Gain should be around halfway at 12:00 or so, maybe a little higher depending on how much gain you want and if you're supplementing with an overdrive or distortion pedal. If you are using an OD or Dist pedal with your setup, the Gain should be lower between 9:00-12:00. Hope this helps my man! Good luck finding your tones. It's a process and you'll learn to hear better the more you tweak your sound. \m/

Nice vid. The song 11th hour by Lamb of God comes to mind. They use that D minor 9 sound in the chorus but also a super dissonant version during the outro.

What I do is tune the high E down to a C so you get easy dissonance when you bar the G B and C strings

"Id," and its opposite, "ego," are both derived from theories devised by Sigmund Freud. If I remember correctly, it's basically that people have two distinct personalities within their mind that are "vying for control," as it were. "Id," refers to the primitive instinctual side of ourselves. (Our Lizard Brain) It's shameless and crude; like the caveman that still lives somewhere inside of all of us. Whereas "Ego," refers to the more tame, rational side of ourselves. When someone refers to their conscience in the sense of say, "I was gonna steal that candy bar from that baby that wouldn't shut the f*** up... But my Conscience wouldn't let me..." Conscience in That sense is like your "Ego." It's sensible, humble, blah blah blahhh. So in a sense, Id and Ego are kinda like The Devil and The Angel sitting on your shoulders whispering in your ear and persuading you to do stuff. Just translated into scientific medical jargon.

Learn Melodic Hardcore songs by It Prevails, Misery Signals and Seasons in Wreckage, Also, some Novelist songs like Under Different Welkins, Gravity, and Heal The Wound taught me that chord progression! They use the same chords in a lot of their more melodic and pretty sounding songs like those mentioned above. You can always set up a lesson with me and I'll teach you all you wanna know! \m/

by posting a close up video of him playing a riff he *has* taught you that riff - click on the video's settings (the little gear icon in the bottom right) and set the playback speed too 0.25 and do exactly what he's doing.fingerwise. slowly speed the video up. make sure you tell the guy thank you! i'd email him if i were you. whether or not you were joking, demanding something from this dude for free is the kind of things that makes people give up on RU-vid.
