Wow, huge thank you Noah! 16 is a tricky time indeed, the voice is constantly changing in those teenage years. The good life is a great song! The raspy voice thing is something I personally love and incorporate into my own sound. Since Myles sings super clean I didn't add a whole lot of rasp to this cover. But guys like Chris Cornell, Russell Allen, Dio, thats my favorite to sing. There's a few things to developing distortion and compression with the voice, and there are different ways of approaching it. For me, it's about warming up completely clean, and slowly adding the distortion in once I'm warm. The more intense the distortion, the less air you want to try to use, otherwise you'll blow out your voice quick. Imagine the compression and power starting from the diaphragm, and try to focus on keeping the throat and vocal chords relaxed while almost "choking back" on the air a bit. Experiment and take it slow, it took me a while to develop that sound after years of admittedly sloppy unimpressive clean singing.
