I appreciate your take on the band, I wish more people in the metal community would realize it’s OK to not like an album, but I feel like people can’t just not listen to an album they don’t like this genre. They must accuse the band of decisions that they have no idea even happened. Like many people my age in my mid 40s I was 12 when the black album came out and my parents just got his cable and the first music video that I really saw that grabbed me was Enter Sandman. The black album is really what got me not only into Metallica but it’s why I got into a lot of other bands too. Without that I’m not a metal fan today. By no means in saying the black album is the best metal album but I do think it is one of the most important metal albums . The first five albums are classic Metallica, I really like Load, I don’t consider it thrash metal but I feel like some people have this idea that they say it sucks but then when you ask them to tell you why it sucks the answer I get back is basically it’s not thrash so I feel like they’re making the argument that there is not any other good out side of Metal. Reload, say it’s bad, but the longer time goes by I’m one of those people that thinks they should’ve just made it one album instead of having two load albums and just trim the fat. Take the 3 worst songs of Load and replace them with The Unforgiven 2, Fuel and The Memory Remains. it took me almost a decade to realize the only songs I really like off reload are the three singles and I think those are by far the best songs and I’ve never been the guy that only likes the singles. That’s the only album in history of all the different genres I listen to that I can say that the only songs I like are the singles. St. Anger- you’re right there’s just no way to defend that. It’s just a bad album. But to be fair, I feel like people hold Metallica to a standard. They don’t hold other bands too. I listen to many different genres of music, mainly metal and hip-hop and there isn’t one artist out there that doesn’t have one bad album I feel like. I loved Death Magnetic. Still love that album to this day. No I’m not saying it’s anywhere as good as their first five albums but those first five albums to me are pretty damn good like some of the best of the best in my opinion but I thought DM was great. I remember everyone started giving that album praise the first few months it came out and then once the music snob started really cracking down on the production of the album I noticed people that were saying it was great when it first came out. We’re now bitching about the production. Because unfortunately, metal fans get pretty trendy sometimes with the things they bitch about. I’m not saying that the productions or anything like that but I think it’s been really overblown on the way people are making it sound like it’s a shit show. Hardwired to Self Destruct. it checks all the boxes that would define an album as a thrash album and I’m not saying it’s bad. It doesn’t suck but I feel like it’s kind of a mediocre album. There are two songs I really like on it but the rest of it it’s kind of forgettable. Not saying it’s by any means it’s just not an album that really stand out. If you would’ve told me that they really wrote all these songs at the same time they wrote DM but these were the songs that weren’t quite enough to make the album in their eyes but then they decided to release it eight years later I would believe it. I’m not saying that happened I’m just saying that’s what it sounds like. 72 Seasons- I love it. I think it is easily 10 times better than Hardwired. Hardwired really felt like the guys needed to make an album for the sake of making an album but 72 seasons has a lot of heart and soul in it to me like the guys really feel these songs. I love James vocals I love the groove to this album. I really can’t make up my mind which album I think is their best album since Rob joined the band, I go back-and-forth between 72 seasons and Death Magentic.

Cheers for that really well thought out comment dude 🤘 i do agree, sometimes if you’re pretty sure you’re not going to enjoy an album, not listening to it is an option. If you watch our other reviews on the channel, the vast majority are positive and always have been. I usually don't take the time to do negative reviews, because often when i don't like an album, it's just not my thing. I decided to cover this album for a number of reasons; 1. Metallica is good for engagement. This is one of our most successful videos and it's pretty obvious why. I wish being negative and ranty wasn't what get's the most views but that's how this game is played. It sucks 2. I had reasons I could put into words for why this album didnt work for me. If it was just simply "it's not my thing" I wouldn’t bother. But I actually had things to say. The song structure bothered me, the production is thin, the solos are poor. 3. I actually do love Metallica! If there is one thing in this video I do think I got wrong is that the rundown of my thoughts on Metallica's back catalogue is way too flippant and rushed. It comes across like i'm saying "first three albums great, everything else sucks". I do love those three albums most, but the rest of their career is way more nuanced than just "all bad". As you said, there are gems throughout the years. So I was going into this album hoping there would be something for me there, unfortunately there wasn't much and I had to be honest about that. Really glad you loved it though. As I say in the video, I never want to imply or suggest that people shouldn't enjoy things, or that you're an idiot or shill. It's great this album resonated with people, even if it didn’t me. Because I love heavy metal, and want people to be enjoying it.

I enjoyed this album though I agree that they drag single ideas out for too long and they don't take the longer songs to enough different places. I do think a key problem is the loudness and compression though, it just makes the ears tired, and you just feel like you're being hit by this big wall of sound and after a while your brain switches off with fatigue no matter how good or bad the actual songs are. I put on reload after and the sound and production is just amazing in comparison, the music breathes, and you can hear all the instruments properly.

I did consider mentioning whether the production was an issue on the album, but didn't feel qualified enough to really tell what was wrong with it. Thanks for commenting 🤘

Reload is awesome. Also went back to it after trying to give 72 album a chance. Drums are INCREDIBLY overpowering in 72 seasons.

I agree with the loudness and compression issue. I find this album very bland and I think the audio quality itself ruins it a lot. It really is just a wall of sound with no personality at all.

Maybe as they go in to their senior years they should release singles instead of albums. Then we'd get lux and 72 seasons instead of the rest of these snoozer tracks.

I agree with this review, this album is bad. There are a few bits of interesting stuff in the beginning of it but it soon becomes tedious and I find myself unable to listen through the whole album in one sitting. It's just a cash grab from Metallica. I feel they started with 2 good songs and wanted to do a full album so they just made something up on the spot to fill it out.

This is Metallica without a producer to challenge them. Lars said this was an easy album for them. It’s literally an album entirely of filler. With drums so simple they are distracting. Boring Pentatonic solos in every song. Bass you can’t hear. Drums are too loud. Songs that sound too long. It’s now my least favorite Metallica album. I can’t even listen to it. It’s so bad. And I like load and Saint anger. Lux is the best song on the album in my opinion, and it was the last song they wrote. They needed a short punchy track and they made it up on the spot.

I think the album is way better than st.anger. and lulu. Lol. Well it is better than load and reload too. I wished death magnetic was not recorded so crappy. Death magnetic is real good. I put this album with death magnetic. Really not bad. I think hardwired is little bit better. Overall the album is great. The solos could have been better. The art sucks. Just wished the name logo was on top. The music videos some are real shocking epileptic yellow and some videos they look distorted. The art looks like a clothing brochure and again a darn digipack.

I have seen a lot of people loving the first track. Had it not been so drawn out I probably would like it a lot more, but then I could say that for the whole album 😅

He's just an amateur fan who pretends to be the purest metalhead who tries to join in hating Metallica by condescendingly using Cliff as a shield which is bigger than Metallica itself. He doesn't understand that the basic pattern of Metallica music is Lars and James. he was actually jealous that AJFA was more progressive and wilder than the previous 3 albums. usually haters use cliff and mustaine as tools for their attacks on metallica to claim metallica is actually amateur. fans like this are really losers. they don't understand what music is. all they know is the style.

Their current producer Greg isn’t really a producer. He’s an engineer. He is a yes, man. I’ve watched a lot of reviews of this album and this is by far my favorite great job.
