Kill em All at 9? What? That’s my favourite. Objectively it has to be top 4 or 5 at worst. I like 72 Seasons too. Definitely better then Hardwired for me. That had like 5 good songs and the rest are forgettable. 72 seasons is more upbeat too. I can’t stop playing it. Each to their own though

I wish Kill 'Em All wasn't so low, but otherwise great rating

Kill ‘Em All is also my #9. I love the album, but they did so much different stuff after that, and it doesn’t hold up as well for me. I’ve been a hardcore fan over 30 years. Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone in your opinion. Where we disagree hard is with 72 Seasons. It’s my #4, right behind the other 3 ‘80s classics.

Definitely respect your opinion, I know most people in the Metal community are very close minded, and we’ll go off the rails on anyone that has a slightly different opinion than they do but it’s your opinion and I respect it. For me, the first five Metallica albums are classic Metallica and it’s hard for me to rank one above the other with those first five. It just depends on what mood I’m in that day. But after the first five albums for me, their next best album is Death Magnetic. I really love that album and I think it is easily the best album from the current era of Metallica. I do disagree with you quite a bit on 72 seasons no I’m not saying it’s better than any of their first five albums, or even better than Death Magnetic, but I do think it is four times better than Hardwired and I’m not even saying that hardwired is a bad album but outside of the title track and spit out the bone. Most of the album doesn’t really do a whole lot for me. Like I said, it’s not that it’s bad there’s just nothing that sticks out is great other than those two songs. I think for me, 72 seasons is tied with load, and by the way, I love the load album. No it’s not thrash metal but to me, you don’t have to have an extreme metal album to make it a good album. I listen to all types of different music and to me. Load is really damn good music. But yeah, I definitely think 72 seasons is better than Reload, St. Anger and and Hardwired. I don’t agree with your take that they were just throwing stuff against the wall, I think with Metallica what it is, is that their best is so good that when they write a song that’s just good by comparison, it’s it just doesn’t look as good as it really is sometimes. I mean I’m saying it’s like their seventh best album so it’s not like I’m saying this should be a top-tier Metallica album but I really do enjoy it a lot. I think it’s some of the most personal lyrics James has ever done and it really does sound about like you would think and 80s metal band 40 years and is there a career would sound. I never expect them to write an album now that is going to be better than their first five. When you have legendary artist that their prime is over and think about it, they put out five classic albums. Most bands have one or two classic albums not five. And I know some people point to other bands like testament and overkill and point out how good they’re doing in the right they are doing great for being as old as they are but it’s easier to put out work that out Shane’s your earlier stuff when your earlier stuff wasn’t anywhere near as good as ride the lightning or master of puppets. And that’s not me bashing those other bands at all but let’s be real about it fans, like overkill and testament, they are getting more respect now than they ever did. 15, 20, 30 years ago no one ever talked about them. Now it’s cool to talk about them in for people to act like back in the day, they never listen to Metallica Slayer it was just overkill, exodus, and testament for them. Well, if that was the case, those guys would’ve sold a shit ton more albums. I think every artist has only so much really great music to write and if the first 30 years of your career you were holding back a lot then yeah I can see you unloading your best shit later on. But if your best work is done in the first 10 years of your career , then you’re never going to top that.

I totally agree with St. Anger being everyone's least favorite. If the production would've been a lot better and not that horrendous snare sound it wouldn't sound as bad. I actually really like 72 seasons. There's a lot of bangers on the new disc. I don't think you fully digested the new album. Takes at least like 4 listens to every song. Some are saying that James is singing better than ever for his age. I agree with that. The bass is mixed almost perfect. Your order is very strange, I think it's cause you're not a metal dude and/or you just got into them. The first 6 songs on hardwired Plus spit out the vibe is good. I hate all the unforgivens except the first one. This is like getting a review from someone that's only been listening to Metallica for a couple months...lol.

@@ZBilbs no problem man! At least we've all gotten past the morons who say "anything after and justice sucked" cause they wanna act like they're cool somehow. As if only like one your of music was ever cool in the first place. Bob Rock showed them a lot and taught them a lot about recording stuff. Greg Fidelman has been doing a great job of production/engineer.

It’s better than Hardwired I agree. Mainly to me because it’s faster. Hardwired would have made a good ep. It’s not perfect itself though. It could have been one or two track’s shorter

@@JCStorm76 definitely. That's why there first few albums were good. Ride the lightning had all bangers except "escape"...lol. When you concentrate on less songs those songs become better instead of stretching out more songs just for the sake of more songs. I wonder what the band would've sounded like if Cliff never died. If you think about it, Metallica blew up pretty quickly and that was all through word of mouth which nowadays is crazy. By 1986 and the Ozzy tour they were on the way and the black album is what broke them through to the mainstream.

The first 4 albums will always be my favorites, especially Master of Puppets & ...And Justice for All. After that, it gets very average to downright awful. Load & Reload are embarrasing as hell. 1. Master of Puppets 2. ...And Justice for All 3. Ride the Lightning 4. Kill 'Em All 5. Death Magnetic 6. Black Album 7. 72 Seasons 8. Hardwired...To Self Destruct 9. St. Anger 10. Load 11. Reload

I have a hard time listening to Death Magnetic. Not because of any particular songs that I find bad, but I find the production to be god awful that I get ear fatigue. Rick Rubin did them dirty by completely squashing their mix.

Man I couldn't disagree more about 72 Seasons. It's naive even to put it on a rating so early in the first place. I bet you've listened to it 2-3 times max. I also disagree with the list as a whole to be honest. Death Magnetic is easily the worse of the last 3 imho.
