alexstone108 lol same thing happened to me, i was like dude mehhh, and now i love it so much, that middle part that has like a double solo, that shit brings tears to my eyes
so true. That's why I love Metallica. At first I thought meh 2 good songs on the album (hardwired and spit out the bone). 2n time lissening, hey I remember this part, okay 4 good songs etc etc. Metallica 4 ever.
As a veteran Metallica fan (Kill em All, Ride, Master, & Justice decade), I'm so very glad that this band is still producing new music today & that you guys & girls, the current generation, is really getting into their new releases & providing solid feedback. The journey for me personally with Metallica from the early 80's had been incredible. Watching & listening to them for almost 35 years has given me so much & I'm just beside myself with the impact that they're still having today. Love your commentary & love the comments, you guys & girls are spot on, you get what Metallica is about & what their music has to offer.
I listened to the song myself a couple of times, and then immediately made my way to your channel to see what you thought, Chainsaw. Haha I have arrived very early .
Chainsaw Reacts Ya I hear ya, it's all turning out great. This one I think wins for me because it contains a few more tricks up its sleeve, and ups a few dynamics that I have been looking for in the new material. The album is gonna be a juggernaut.
Chainsaw Reacts hope the others dont dissappoint me but honestely i can say this one is better than and justice for all and kill'em all and death magnetic its epic
Only song i liked from first listen was Hardwired. I did not like Moth nor Atlas from the first listen but at 5th listen of both they are stuck into my head. Metallica
sonny krauze Yeah, the intro is kinda similar, but the rest is totally different. It's funny though that you said the drums are similar. Drumming in Dyers is much more impressing than this.
My ranking of the Hardwired album: 12: ManUNkind 11: Here Comes Revenge 10: Confusion 9: Hardwired 8: Murder One 7: Am I Savage? 6: Dream No More 5: Atlas Rise 4: Halo on Fire 3: Now That We're Dead 2: Moth Into Flame 1: Spit Out the Bone
Yes Iron Maiden, that's why this like it so much to me, is the sound of my two favorites bands Maiden and Metallica. More thrash but not more of the same; they are Metallica¡
Great video! Agree completely! I've listened to the Atlas, Rise! at least 20 times by now, it is AMAZING! That instrumental middle section from brutal riff at 3.14 is just WOW! All three are fantastic in their own way but I think I like the Atlas the most now, the flow, the riffs, the energy, chorus... everything is fantastic. At this point I'm convinced this is going to be the album to admire from start to finish
Chainsaw, Love your reactions my friend! always detailed and honest, awesome reactions man, watched your full reactions for the album. Cheers! keep it up
i heard alot of hate around this song and really i don't get why... this is metallica how we want it! it may not be as catchy as moth into flame or as thrashie as hardwired but this is metallica at his best in my opinion.
I heard this the second Metallica uploaded this, we have very same observations about their respective nods to Iron Maiden on this song:-) awesome midsection
Fun's fact: This song is the fastest track on the HTSD album (to my surprise)!! And, this is like a little tribute to Iron Maiden as you've recognized it in this reaction!!!
I was waiting for your reaction : totally agree with you, I can feel some Maiden vibe in there (good thing, love the Irons too). As for which song is first, I'd say Moth but I listened to it alsmot every day. I should wait for Atlas to grow on me. I loved Death Magnetic (still love it), was a bit disappointed by Beyond Magnetic. When they put the hours of work, the result is there, it is just brilliant
"was a bit disappointed by Beyond Magnetic". Me too, some of the parts were to repetitive. But they did right. There's a reason why they decided to not put these songs on "Death Magnetic"... ;-)
Yes,you're right. I figured they actually released Beyond Magnetic to stop the massive Lulu flood everywhere. But this new album sounds really promising. 17 days to go ! The wait is killing me...
Stéphane PISKORZ I know how the waiting feels. The tension grows. I haven't felt that way for a long time, waiting for an album to come out. And it's about time. By the way, if you are an old school thrash metal fan like me (yes, I was a teen in the 1980s) or just like the old school stuff, I can recommend you the new Testament and Death Angel albums. Both are great. Check them out.
Sure I will check them out ! No, I'm not an old school thrash metal fan : I actually discovered Metallica when I was a freshman, and that was Unforgiven II, off the Reload album, and that was in 2000. I expanded my horizons afterwards, listening to their most recent albums first and then their first albums, although that was not intended. The good thing is I like both styles, old metallica and new). And then I went on a quest to discover new metal bands that I would like equally : Iron Maiden could be one, but metallica just gets the highest ranking. After came many more : Helloween, Black Sabbath (Dio period only, I can't stand Ozzy's voice), Dio (RIP !), Jorn, Virgin Steele, all these among my favorites. Actually listening to Rainbow right now, I'm having a break from listening to Moth into Flame and Atlas Rise ;-)
Stéphane PISKORZ Come on, Ozzy-era Sabbath is fucking great! Paranoid is one of the best albums ever done. Also, if you like Jorn you should check out his old band Ark. Their 2nd album Burn The Sun is really good.
exactly my reaction word for word.. Even the Iron Maiden bit. If you are going to Do a Metallica Song and add Iron Maiden Riffs to it you are the definition of winning.
The length of the intro is kind of unjustified. In previous (classic) albums they always justified the length of the intro with either an acoustic ballad, or slow increase in volume, or some other interesting instrumentation. But here it's just unnecessary.
2016 has been a fantastic year for metal. So many of my favorite bands have released, or are going to release, albums this year. It's the only part of the year that hasn't flat out sucked. lol
Honestly speaking, this is the most fluid song out of the three. It keeps flowing like a stream. Amazing. Love the power metal feel to this song. . . superb. If you notice, James is doing the vocals in a "little" power metal vocals style too i.e. the atlas rise part.
James hasnt sounded this good in sooooo many years man! I feel like lyrically and vocally Atlas has risen!!! Kirks solos on this album are reeeeeeaaaallllly interesting... everysingle one has surprised me but this one imparticular is fucking masterfully done.... he's a metal GOD thats why MetallicA fans talked shit about Mustaine in the 80's Kirk is amazing man
I remember very well where I was the first time that I heard this song. I was in my car and a Radio Italian rock has passed. I went crazy, the volume to maximum and whatsapp audio immediately active to make her feel my friends. I was mad, fantastic!
Agreed. Moth Into Flame is still my fave, and honestly may be a Grammy level song. This one has that early 80's driving British metal sound. The main riff is pretty basic and doesn't grab your attention like MIF, but still really good. The middle is the best part with those beautiful harmony parts. This album is going to be epic.
We are so happy with this song! Glad you enjoyed it as well. We just may have to have you back on the show to do a complete review of the new album \m/
5:13 You had the same reaction I had at that part. Don't get me wrong the whole song is good but dear fucking god that part blows my mind every time and I've heard it 30 times by now. Knowing that Metallica can write shit like that and play shit like that still puts my mind at ease. The rest of the album is nothing to worry about anymore.
Chain - keep it up. Great analysis. They are opening the Royal Arena in Feb 2017 in Copenhagen. The very first event to play there. Do I have tickets? Of cuz Regarding the new songs, I pick up trails to both Ride and DM. Also I was so delighted when the Dane lost his love for the metallic tin drum (as of St. Anger) That was a terrible twist. But again. Love your comments /TT
I absolutely love that you can hear their influences on this song. I can hear Kiss, Maiden, Priest, Motorhead, and all of the other mid 70s American hard rock bands and early British metal bands from the early 80s.
I cannot help myself, I gotta make my comment too :) When I was listening into it for the first time, I was asking myself - is this really Metallica ? Wow ! So interresting guitar lines bellow vocal line and than later in the song these very nice harmonies... Definitelly something NEW, when I compare this song with all the previous songs they ever composed. This song isn't "radio song" and I will need some more time to find all the "hidden notes". :) What I already love on this album are clear and sharp guitars. Yummiii. Life's good \,,/
my comment on Metallica's channel was that this sounded the closest to any Kill em All track since KEA because it is so heavily influenced by the NWOBHM sound (thus all the Maiden comments) The best thing so far about all 3 released tracks is how great James sounds, he's actually stretching his vocals even beyond the more complex stuff he did in the Loads with tracks like Moth and Atlas Rise. After DM came out my response to the question of what to expect for the follow up, i said it would be better, and so far i think that prediction is coming true. They "rediscovered" themselves with DM, so it was easy for me to assume that once they got in that creative groove that the follow up would just naturally be better. You could even hear some of it seep into Lulu, some of those riffs were amazing and almost lament they got used on that.
The more I hear this track, the more epic I think it is. I believe it's gonna be a classic Metallica classic! Top drawer Metallica. And love the NWOBHM flavour, especially the middle section. Awesome! 🤘
5:12 I don't know why but this part makes me think about a... final battle type of thing, like you have been grinding a lot of EXP and you are losing, but you are not willing to give up and you continue.
hey Chainsaw, you boy Pauly from Toronto... I couldn't not agree with you more... Atlas Rise kicks serious ass. I love Metallica more then anything......
I listened to Hardwired... and Moth into Flame about 5 times each and they still haven't really hooked me. This song was good on the first listen, and totally hooked me after a couple listens. Try listening to it 3 or so times and then wait till the next day and listen to it again. If you don't love it you have no soul
Chainsaw Reacts the song is so great not as great as Moth Into Flame Or Hardwired but Atlas Rise is still pretty amazing I really don't think think that we gonna be disappointed with the Album I think it's gonna be awesome Metallica Rules 👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸
I honestly liked this song the most. Maybe not suprising since Iron Maiden is my favourite band and it seems they were inspired by them for some of the riffs in this song. Moth Into Flame was really good as well. The only song I'm not a big fan of is Hardwired. It's an okay song. Lyrics were really disappointing in that song imo.
