Great reaction brother, if you wanna hear from James himself, he was on Joe Rogan recently, here's a link to a few minutes of them talking about this concert: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qmSgl4mwZ4Q.html James says 500,000 or 300,000 something like that. But most of my research resulted in over a million attendance and officials stop counting at some point and just let people in Cheers!

Back in the early 90's I found myself with an extra ticket to Metallica. I asked my roommate (a black guy) if he wanted to go. He was unsure and asked me what it would be like. I told him imagine seventeen thousand white guys chanting Die Die Die. He went anyway. Kenny B was a stand up dude.

People love Burton, but for me, Newsted was the soul of Metallica. It was never the same after he left.

In 1991, at the behest of Mikhail Gorbachev Tushino Airfield was used to host the free Monsters of Rock concert featuring AC/DC, Metallica, the Black Crowes, and Pantera. Official estimates placed the crowd at between 800,000 and 1,000,000 people. The crowd was unofficially estimated to number at least 1.5 million people. Furthermore, 200,000 people attended the "Inside Bram" backdoor tour. The "Bram" backstage tour was planned to tour through Germany, France, and Spain, but was canceled due to health issues.

The funniest thing about this is that THAT concert had 1.6 MILLION fans. But the record attendance for any concert was set in 1994. Located on Cococabana Beach in Brazil, a mind-numbing 3.5 MILLION people attended a New Year's Eve party. The Headlining act? ROD STEWART :D

When some metal heads complained that Metallica had sold out in changing their style with the Black album, Lars said , "Yeah, we sold out...every show". Brazil's another place that you will see ridiculously huge crowds..they love metal music and don't get too many tour stops, there. Check out some of Iron Maiden's "Rock in Rio" concert footage.

Actually Metallica was very successful before the change. At the time the change was more of a risk than sellout. They were just talented enough to pull it off. Someone name another band that's existed for 40 years, every album sounds unique and dominated thrash, heavy metal and rock. Every single album a huge success. Don't think about it because nobody else has the same accomplishments

If you're ever near Vegas, and Metallica comes to town, I'll gladly buy you a ticket. The energy at a Metallica show is immeasurable. Even after 35 years, the energy is intense. I have been to 6 shows over the years, and was not disappointed one time. People have said they sold out. Jason Newsted said it best. "We did sell out. Every seat in the house, everywhere we played"
