FYI, in 2016 this album Master of Puppets was added to the US Library of Congress registry of works that are “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
I love these Metallica reactions. Not even a complete Metallica fan either. Metal has a stereotype that it's all hate, anger, devil worship and other nonsense. You guys are seeing, and reading first hand there is a lot of intellectualism and provoking thoughts behind the songs. Just like lyrical hip hop. The instruments to produce the music may be completely different but there is a meaningful message. Good on this channel for their thoroughness. Not just for metal, but for all genres of music
yup,. the instruments accentuate the meaning like a good musical score does for a movie. it's not accident that the sound and pace of the instruments fluctuate between sounding like a cavalry charge into battle (a galloping bass), and then the thrash playing of guitars and drums sounds like the guns themselves.
Ha, this comment is so true and shows that cancel culture is not a new thing. For those same reasons Metal has been on the cancel table, even to court.
Orion is the most celebrated and know instrumental they have. Absolutely worth a reaction video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c8qrwON1-zE.html
Song 1) Battery -- about being controlled by anger | Song 2) Master of Puppets -- controlled by drugs | Song 3) The Thing That Should Not be -- controlled by insanity | Song 4) Sanitarium -- controlled by people who think you're insane but maybe you aren't | Song 5) Disposable Heroes -- controlled by patriotism or the draft or whatever sends you to war | Song 6) Leper Messiah -- controlled by religion | Song 7) Orion -- just a cool instrumental but I consider this the moment of bliss when the listener realizes their own master... Song 8) Damage Inc... what the listener does to the master that is now exposed... just my take, but there does seem to a consistent theme with calling out our masters.
Some things to fix: The Thing That Should Not Be: about Cthulhu Sanitarium: About a man in a mental asylum who goes insane and plans to kill all of his doctors
Battery was about a local they played in if I'm remembering correctly. The thing that should not be is about followers to Chtulhu. Welcome home Sanitarium is about a patient in a mental asylum being abused by the doctors and planning a violent revolt with other patients and Orion was a song that was composed mainly by cliff and was basically just left in because it was good
This song hits hard , I am an Army recon Desert Storm veteran and no one gets this song more that someone who spent time in the suck. Loving all your reactions guys, keep being you and having fun.
Leper Messiah is also one of my favorites. It’s crazy because I was a teen when I started listening to them. I didn’t understand the depth of the lyrics also we had no way to look up lyrics at that time if they weren’t in the albums. So unfortunately I missed the deep meanings of the songs for a LONG time.
@@markherring3513 not religion as a whole, the fake television or some traveling evangelists who are obviously using a religion to extort money from unsuspecting but truly faithful people. Leper messiah translates to false prophet in this song. I did a bunch of research on it for a paper, once upon a time, when I was in school.
Always have loved this song as I spent 16 years in the infantry as a disposable troop. Somehow I made it through after being wounded a few times. Thanks everyone for your service!
Whole record is about control - drugs, violence, disease, war, mental illness. This album sits at the top for me as far as metal goes. It's so powerful and well recorded and they did it when they were young. Metallica is where they are because of their level of creativity. They just have it.
I think its time for you guys to experience the most aggressive song by Metallica, a little rare gem that even fans sometimes forgets called Dyers Eve, known for the most aggressive drums by Lars Ulrich, and the most technical advanced guitar solo by Kirk Hammet, and some of the most wild and raw lyrics by James Hetfield.
I’m gonna apologize in advance, I honestly don’t mean to be a dick but I’m sure it’ll be taken as that. So-A little rare gem that even fans sometimes forget? Bro have you ever actually mingled within the fanbase? It’s a fan favorite. Dyer’s Eve has a very favorable reputation among fans. Also, it’s on AJFA, there’s nothing rare about it. Anyway, no I don’t think _it’s time_ for them to experience it. Somewhere down line for sure, but as of right now they ain’t even got through all the essential tracks yet.
@@yancylinn8055 ...that song is not on that album. Whiskey in the jarro is horrible. I was embarrassed for them and quit listening to Metallica after they did that. Damn song sounds like a nursery rhyme.
As a metal chick it beyond warms my heart to see life long hip hop fans give metal a chance ( I like both). So your Metallica reactions just make me smile and not stop 😁
@@figu6ka379 You misunderstood my stmt. I was replying to MistaGitGud ...who was slamming the OP. So, obviously MistaGitGud thinks the Black Album and later are the "real" Metallica or just as good. My point was to say that the Black Album was a sell-out ...and it was, they even admit it in their own ways. There is NO way pre-Black Album Metallica ...or ANY Metallica with Cliff Burton or Dave Mustaine would have recorded the Black Album ...as it IS Brittany Spears candy pop. Peace.
I was 15 when this album came out in 1986 (I'm 51 now.) I used to put this on my Walkman on cassette to walk 2 miles to school everyday. I woke up to their albums sometimes. No one where I was knew who they were and I actually got ridiculed for having their logo as a patch on my Jean jacket. No one could pronounce their name right. Most people said "metal licka". To see you you guys finally seeing what I literally grew up with every day my Sophomore year in High School is pretty cool. I love watching you guys get the beat, appreciate the music, and then the deep understanding behind the lyrics. Thank you for taking the time to understand and not just assuming it's not worth it.
I just called my Uncle who’s a real history buff especially American Military history. He worked at Maritime Military college here in New York until he just retired and I asked him about this song and I got a serious history lesson! Point as usual thank you guys! Much love to you over there. ❤❤❤
Man, watching you guys getting excited and reacting to these Metallica tracks makes me jealous. I remember the first time I heard them, which was the same day I saw them for the first time at The Monsters of Rock in 1988. They opened with Battery, and right away it was like nothing else I had ever seen or heard, and the crowd was reaction so visceral, I knew it was something special and I would be forever changed from my safe little radio rock box. The reactions I would have were so awesome, and even still have sometimes when you haven’t heard one in awhile is just awesome. I’m jealous of you guys being able to experience for the first time, and your reactions have been great, and have made me remember what it was like. Thanks guys!
Metallica is a fantastic band. They have deep meanings to there songs. You guys should definitely do a reaction to metallicas “one”. That is a good one!!
I love watching you dive into one of my all-time favorite band Metallica been listening since 86. Also can’t wait for you to dip your toes in the tool and believe me the tool army will be on your side
I have always loved Metallica, grew up on them with cousins that were 10 years older than me introducing me as a kid. Seeing your reactions has brought a lot of happiness to me as it reminds of what it was like for me when I first listened to them. I love seeing people who were not previously in the metal scene listen and really enjoy something that I enjoy so much. You have also got me relistening to all their albums in order again, just to relive some old memories.
You guys nailed it, the entire album of master of puppets is about being controlled, whether it's from: drugs (Master of Puppets), military (Disposable Heros), anger/abuse (Battery), insanity (Welcome Home), religion (Leper Messiah), corporations (Damage, INC), schizophrenia (The Thing That Should Not Be), uncertainty (Orion)
Orion is simply a very good instrumental, Welcome home Sanitarium is just the story of an abused asylum patient that turns agaisnt the doctors, Battery i heard was inspired by a local they played at and The Thing that should not be is about the followers of Chtulhu
This makes me think of my dad, Vietnam vet and he will NOT talk about his service. He’ll talk you under the table about anything else but that. He’s my favorite hero.
My favorite Metallica song ever, and I’ve been a die-hard fan since 1991 as a dorky 13 year old. They’ve honestly helped me overcome some heavy sh*t and I love to watch the younger generation discover these songs and lyrics. I’ve been binge-watching your Metallica reactions because they’re so pure and honest and I love it.
@@Steve-cm2ys well they do have several (very successful) live albums, but they also know there are many weirdos out there that don't understand why live is better
Loving the Metallica reactions, y’all! I’m glad y’all are looking up the meaning of the songs before listening that way there’s minimal misinterpretation. Keep up the good work!
You've GOT TO REACT TO THEIR LIVE CONCERT IN SEATTLE 1989!!!! That will give you true appreciation of their talent, to see it performed live! As opposed to whack ass music today.
Guys, I love your channel and watch it all the time. I was in the Air Force for 26.5 years. We were trained just like the other branches of the service. War was what we prepared for. First 10 years was just exercising and learning how to operate during a war time situation... train, train train. It was us against the Russians and it was at the height of the Cold War. Then we had Desert Storm and I deployed and fought for our country. Got the shit scared out of me a few times and it did not really matter. We did what we did and dying was a consequence for keeping America free. Then from 94 until I retied in 07 I was involved in constant conflict. It did not matter who we were fighting against, orders were orders and you follow them, no questions asked. War was just what we signed up for. I put myself in harms way more than once and at the end of the day, I made it. It did not matter. I could have hid behind a desk but I volunteered for anything and anything. That is what we do. If I was to have died, I know it would have not been for nothing and my wife would have understood... in her eyes I would have been a hero. But I lived and my wife still looks at me as a hero. I did not do this for myself but for you. Rudy, MSgt USAF, Retired 1981-2007 AMMO! Keep on keeping it real my brothers!
Love seeing you guys go back through Metallica's catalogue. Love to see you guys react to "Eye of the Beholder". This track is as relevant today, as it was over 30 years ago when it was written.
Applies to nearly everyone in past century that has served in these b.s. wars. Respect to those who were forced to serve. However if u just signed up and believed the lies then you're flat out ignorant and uninformed!
Ukrainians too. Stop acting like history started yesterday. The 2014 coup and ethnic cleansing in Eastern Ukraine dont just go away because "Russia Bad"
I absolutely love how all of yall are expanding yourselves to different genres of music. Metal music is more then loud, fast playing instruments. The lyrics is what gets your attention.
I’m so glad you guys took a liking to Metallica and it’s so cool to watch you guys explore them deeper. The more you listen to them, the more respect you’ll gain for them. Keep ‘em coming guys!
As a white dude, who grew up in Marrero, Lafayette, and new orleans having family in all three places, and as a musician here in Louisiana, I love you guys.
If you guys wanna check out Trapped Under Ice, it's probably the most "thrash metal" Metallica song. Or check out "All Nightmare Long" to see how badass Metallica still is 30 years into the game.
To live is to die... Is one of my favorite songs.. instrumental towards until the end.. Then .. harvest of sorrow. From the Justice album.. My favorite two songs on it..
Sooner or later you guys will react to the band called "Slayer". It's and old school thrash metal band just like Metallica but Slayer is a lot darker. A lot. That's where you will witness that some metal bands, especially veterans of the genre, can dive veeery deep and and in a veeery dark places. You might not like what Slayer is singing about but you will definately appreciate it's intricacy. On top of that, the way they play their metal is... well let's say the music itself creates a hellish vibe. Love your reactions. Greetings from Russia, Moscow.
Im about to see Metallica live for the 10th & 11th times…I love watching youngsters discovering & appreciating them as much as I have for over 30 years.
All us metal heads love that you guys get metal. We are all children of God. Metal would not exist if it wasn't for black/brown culture. But rap would have fell flat on its face if it wasn't for white culture. We metal heads bought the albums of RUN D.M.C. Public Enemy,NWA.We are not that different despite what Al Sharp-tongue & Rev. Jacka** says. We are American. No matter how we got here we learn and benefit off each other.Gog bless you and long live metal and hip hop🤘🤘🤘
This is one of the Metallica songs that the lyrics really hit me. Both my grandfather's drafted at rhe end of ww2 and into the Korean War. Both survived with bad PTSD, my one grandfather just passes away last July at 94 years old and the 21 gun salute at his funeral was beautiful. The way metallica can create a battlefield in your eyes through music is amazing. The drums sound like guns and I csnt explain how amazing this song is.
Most of Metallica's early albums had long intros which before the black album was normal for them and their popularity really sprung from the black album and everyone who wasn't already a fan jumped on the band wagon and started listening to the earlier stuff which made it even more popular, lucky for me being the fan I am I was listening to them from garage days on and already knew how good they were even before the black album was even thought of.
The performances of the songs “And justice for all”, “Blackened”and “The thing that should not be” were the best performances from that show in my opinion. Also, the performance of Damage inc at the Shoreline amphitheater, 1989 was the best .
What an amazing song huh guys! I always have wished Metallica would play this live every one of the 10 times I have seen them live. But I have only seen it once. Hope they play it on this next tour coming up! Great reaction again guys!
*** a couple of intense songs in regards to the effects war had on soldiers would be Alice and Chains "Rooster", and Tom Waits "Hell Broke Luce". These songs and the videos to them are incredible. They speak an incredible story for the soldier, what they deal with, experience, and the after effects.
I have to say, I’m new to your reactions, but I love it. Haha. It reminds me so much of me and my friends busting each others balls, listening to music - some more into the song, others into the lyrics, etc. great chemistry guys.
