I like metallica songs with all james' riff and fill in melody. But I always find something interesting whenever I listen to bass track on any metallica song. It's like finding hidden gem that is buried under awesome riff. And I can't play bass.

I might get a bass, as a kid, i didnt really have that musical ear, it was hard to tell if it was bass or what, but now that i grew up, and heard this songs again, it reminded that the bass lines where always my favorite, i always let my bro play the lead on guitar hero, and i was always the bass.
If you listen to him play on the YEAR AND A HALF... videos you can hear that this is his tone. He even mentions how hard he hits the bass with his pick.

Hes already stated he can't play the songs like he'd want because of his shoulder surgeries he's had and how physically demanding some of the songs are.

You see exactly the way he plays the outro in the video from the Freddie Mercury tribute...five string Bass, he hits the low E on the first string, normal E on second string and E on the 3rd string 7th fret ( not at the same time ) hard to explain for me in English because i m French...but watch the video and you'll see what i mean ! 🤘

Probably tape-related distortion. I'd imagine that all the master tapes aren't in perfect condition. I'd be happy if someone who is more knowledgeable on the topic would explain more in-depth.
@@diemoopioofficial7757 This is the official bass track off guitar hero and to me it definitely sounds like Jason's playing and how it sounds on the original. Like I originally said, I suspect it is something to do with the tape. Maybe damage-related or just bad cutting.
Sounds to me like someone talking. Multiple takes would be done of each section of the song and then the preferred takes are cut together. It's possible a small bit of talking made it onto the tape. The Shortest Straw has a burp in it that is repeated multiple times throughout the song.
