I'm watching the expression in her face as she hits the notes of this piece...and I realize...I can finally understand how she chose to start making covers...like this...with none other than Metallica...I can see now why it all started for her...with Metallica... She's not just a rock fan..a hard rock aficionado..a metal enthusiast who happens to be a very gifted and talented pianist...She's way beyond that... She plays Metallica with the same passion..with the same fervor Alfred Brendel plays Schubert...Never thought I'd see that facial expression again...

There are people recording with a Mac just to pretend they are more "professional". And then you with Audacity, a completely free program, playing this masterpiece, and sounds so good...!!

What you say is true but again.. she's literally just playing 1 instrument and does not require a posh DAW for it. The rich piano sounds all come from the samples itself so i don't see why we would need a Pro tools or Cubase :P audacity is awesome

Yeah, it's very annoying that uncultured people think Apple is better for editing (Final Cut Pro), recording sound or whatever, when they really don't know what they should know to choose wisely. Then they usually pay too much for the same with a more reasonable price, so they are wasting the money while Apple gets richer and richer. The worst part is Apple dudes always say Microsoft is the devil, when they are even worse. Just look at what they do. Vika is marvelous, as always.

The most fascinating aspect of this wonderful rendition is that she barely looked at the keys while playing the entire song! It's a testament to the skill of the player that the notes are played by muscle memory and one can play it almost blindfolded! Bravo lady! More power to you! Cheers.

I've been listening to Metallica since 1986. I'm an ageing creaky old rocker and every time I see "Fade To Black Cover" I have this moment of worry, my special song is usually about to be mercilessly murdered once again... not this time... Wow! Speaking as a self taught metal guitarist and bassist I've always said that you either "listen" to songs or "hear" songs, you "hear". You don't get that feeling out of an instrument just by hitting all the right notes in sequence. I wish you every success in your music and please keep making these wonderful videos, you've given this jaded old metal head a big smile and a lump in the throat. Thank you.

That intro has got to be some of the most beautiful music ever written. Right up there with Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin. I have been watching your covers for years and you shine such a brilliant light on any music you play. I respect Metallica a lot more now too :)

I think in Amazement .. I think. I think metal flows in the veins of this lady. Warm and on fire, her blood must be filled with billions of specks of gold, sparks of platinum, all pumped by a pure heart's desire. Veins deliver pure passion to muscles and tendons as strong as steel wire. Music lives insides those veins and when Vika releases the catalyst from her soul .....and everything combines. When I was 15 this song spoke to me, I was at my wits end. My step father was an alcoholic and would hit me and berated me constantly, it nearly pushed me to the point of no return. I would listen to this and song and it all became clear to me, you can break a person down physically and emotionally but the soul is untouchable. And this song spoke directly to my soul.

I am mainly a guitarist, but I have been playing the piano a little bit on a few occasions every now and then since 2000, and I have always found it really hard to have my hands play separate melodies. I haven't really practised it that much at all, but it is really tricky when I do try it. I can however mix melodies with chords quite easily, and this allowed me to be a piano player during a medley performance of a bunch of "Grease" songs back in high school about 20 years ago.

According to legend the band was going through a rough patch. Some of their gear was stolen including Jose Arrendondo modded Marshalls. They never really found replacements for it and switches to Mesa Boogie heads soon after.

From 4:06 and onwards, do you actually have control of your fingers? they seem to be autopilot. so many notes in 1/16 or even more timing, and apparently no mistake.... Unbelievable, like a machine but with feelings

Nik M I know what you mean! she becomes one with the piano! you can see and feel how much she loves playing, when I was a kid I had to learn wish you were here for music class, I loved it, the feeling you get when you play is amazing! if my dad hadn't had to sell the piano I would of probably got quite good.
