Fast cuts and zooms, highly edited dialogue, industrial-tinged electronic remixes, sped-up street scenes, spunky narrated voiceovers, “alternative” aesthetic, and LOTS of sunglasses... Oh the early 2000’s!
And there was reasons why he "focking left the band!" The some kind of monster documentary doesn't really address what went on. Jason Newsted did reveal in the Squinto?( very sure that's the name) interview he did to why he no longer was part of the Metallica line up. Think people need to get educated on it. I am (as I've watched the interview) and it's why I'm pretty pissy with big traps yapping their fuzken gums about Jason and his departure from Metallica. Learn before you run ya fuxken mouths is the moral to the story.
Totally remember this. This was back when MTV was still about Music Television. Used to love how they'd play current music at the time throughout the show. I haven't watched MTV in over a decade probably.
This. Man, this segment used to go behind the scenes of basically all my favourite videos at the time. I don't know about other people, but MTV really helped building the foundations of my culture in music and I've got no shame being open about it. This one in particular was the very first Metallica song and video I ever listened to and watched, therefore I should thank MTV for making me know my favourite band of all time (and countless other awesome bands as well). But at the same time I can't let slide all the void that has been left since a lot of time now. MTV isn't a thing anymore in my country and it's not really a bad thing, since in the last 12 years they just stopped dealing with music, choosing to air useless teen shows and other shit. It's a bless we have RU-vid with content like this, it even improves MTV's concept by letting the user decide what, when, how and where he likes to watch something.
This was long past MTVs hayday. MTV used to be a channel that played music videos. In the 90s they were more about television shows with occasional rare shows that were pseudo music video based like Total Request Live. This is not prime MTV this is literally 2000 - 2001.
You can definitely hear the St Anger sound start to creep into their music on this song! I hear the St Anger snare, just not AS bad, and at least the bass is more present.
Most of their music during this era was heavily influenced by Newsted. If you look at what Metallica was making then and look at what Jason's new band was doing after Metallica you can see major similarities in the sound and the expression of the music.
The influence that 90s TV editors took from remix culture, resulting in having 120 camera changes per minute, is the greatest crime ever committed against television.
**The mid-late 90’s to early 2000’s was a really big rebirth of the music video. MTV’s TRL had a lot to do with it, but it was a really great time for that medium of getting music. It’s a shame the same big production isn’t put into it anymore.**
"Metallica writes songs for Metallica." - James Hetfield. May I say that their timing are so on point, MI-II is everything and it is as big as Metallica so they're match made in heaven. Good call!!! Very fitting. Great music video as always, very original Metallica. But I wonder if the band ever play this song in one of their concerts :D
@@gianwinters yes I saw on the first show for the 40th anniv, quite shocking since I get used to replay their shows in Europe and U.S. and I rarely find them playing it, at least from what I found but this song is my least fav yet couldn’t think of a perfect soundtrack for MI! 🤟🏻
Producer: Ok! Kirk! You run from Plane, Jason stay... James, Drive like Dominic Torreto and Lars... JUMP FUCK OVER FROM FUCKING BUILDING! Lars: Something wrong and i can feel it
@Scott Birdyboy it's debatable.. both held their own. But up to until Jason felt not good enough, unappreciated and wanted to do some side stuff with his papa Willie project. I bloody miss him in the band. He gave it a decent crack after his Metallica gig. I say good on him 💜
I remember this being broadcast after school, it was a monday just microwaved a frozen burrito and sat to watch this. Loved the song and was so optimistic about their future, I was like hell yeah this means were getting a new album soon. I couldn't have been more wrong or disappointed. To me this is the last metallica song. I still feel the warm sun and fresh spring air in my face walking home from school that day. My own personal life was turned upside down as my parents and myself fell into coke and meth and my step brother got heavy into drinking. I was drinking smoking weed. Girlfriends had me fucked up and my whole town got torn to shit by meth. Got expelled for wearing a trench coat after columbine and ordered to spend three days in a psych ward because of what they claimed was homicidal literature, aka history books I was doing reports on of the holocaust, hiroshima, charles manson. Then 911 happened. The world ended that summer as we were thrown into a black hole to hell because of that satanic ritual. Fuck the reptiles.
i'm fairly certain this was my first time seeing who Metallica was and who they looked like. Looking back now is really odd, like look at these Dad's trying to slug out a song and video for Tom Cruise's hit movie. This is a peak important making of Video
