Presenter: Metallica
Album: Load
Lyrics:
Mama, she has taught me well
Told me when I's young
Son, your life's an open book
Don't close it 'fore it's done
The brightest flame burns quickest
That's what I heard her say
A son's heart's owed to mother
But I must find my way
Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still
"Rebel", my new last name
Wild blood in my veins
Apron strings around my neck
The mark that still remains
left home at an early age
Of what I heard was wrong
I never asked forgiveness
But when is said is done
Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still
Never I ask of you
What never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
Never I ask of you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
So let this heart be still
Mama, now I'm coming home
I'm not all you wished of me
But a mother's love for her son
Unspoken, help me be
Oh Yeah I took your love for granted
And all the things you said to me
I need your arms to welcome me
But a cold stone's all I see
Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still
Let my heart go
Mama, let my heart go
You never let my heart go
So let this heart be still
Never I ask of you
What never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
Never I ask of you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
So let this heart be still

I have a ton of respect for Hetfield. He went out of his safe zone from metal and wrote a song from the heart, regardless of how of how his fans would react. Tell me how many metal musicians have done that?

David Vincent of Morbid Angel started doing country, Adam Darski of Behemoth started also a country project, 3 members of death metal band Luciferion started a power metal band, members from Vinterland, Maze of Torment started Alfahanne a band mixing genres and a very long way from the extreme they played before.... and my list goes on and on, so Hetfield is not the only one, there are lots of guys out there who have done that. I respect them all for following their heart!

Screw the haters. I don't care if it's a country song. This still remains one of the deepest and most touching pieces Metallica has ever recorded. They are not bad albums in themselves but they are too wildly different from the thrash material that made Metallica famous. They should have put both these records out under an alterego of sorts that would have made sure they were recognized for the genius they contain. And you have to be a little older and more mature to appreciate these. Your average 17 year old metal head would just say “this sucks” and put on ….And Justice for All”

I've never understood why people hate everything Metallica has done after the Black Album solely because it doesn't sound like "Master of Puppets" or "Kill 'em All. I'll be willing to bet if other bands did "Load" through "St. Anger", those albums wouldn't receive nearly as much hate as they do.

Rusty Shackleford I don't understand why so much people hate Load and Reload albums and even Garage Inc. I thought they were great albums. People want the same sounding album year after year from a band or so it seems. That would be boring in my eyes i think its great that Bob Rock came into Metallica's lives and took them on new inventive roads not to say their albums without him at the helm were boring because they were brilliant.

This song is my favorite song (besides King Nothing) off of Load, not just because it's a good song but because it was written from the heart and soul of Hetfield, and doing something like that isn't easy, especially with what he normally would write. I have a lot of respect for James for going out of his way to write this song despite what his fans would say or think. Everyone may be left behind at times, and feel alone or unloved or without worth or reason or purpose, but please just remember one thing dude: No matter how you get treated in life, no matter how things go, no matter what happens or how people act towards you; you *do* have worth, and there is *always* someone who would miss you if you weren't here. I've been through a lot of horrible and a lot of empty in my time on this mudball, and I've seen a lot of the worst sides of people, and I can tell you from experience that, yeah, life is garbage at times. People are just the *worst* here and there. The world is a giant ball of 'fuck this noise' way more often than it should be. But there's always someone out there who cares about you and cares that you're still okay. There's always someone out there who's happy that you're still around. There's always someone out there who would be sad if you weren't. It doesn't always seem like it, but it's true all the same. It took me a long time and a hell of a lot of hurt to realize that, but once I did it made it a hell of a lot easier to keep moving forward, even when things took a turn for the shit-sandwich again. I don't know if it might help you or not to know it, but I hope it does. It certainly did for me, and it's probably even kept me from being dead in a ditch somewhere, considering the way things were going for me a few times. I hope it helps dude, I really, really do. "Never i ask of you but never i gave but you gave me your emptiness i now take to my grave." I like to think these lyrics are from his mother's perspective, she loved him despite the fact he wasn't all she hoped for him to be, and that James never learned what that love meant until it was too late and is full of regret. She just wanted him to show her love. One of the most emotional songs ever written.

...SONG OF THE DAY!!! 🤘🏿ULTRAMEGAROLOTA🤘🏿

To all those who say Metallica isn't good unless they do thrash, sit down and really listen to the message of these songs. It doesn't matter that they wanted to do something different, Metallica was always called the thinking man's band, well quit being so close minded and start thinking. This album is a masterpiece, no all Metallica albums are great. Every song has such a powerful message and you should listen to it, not just with your ears.

Honestly one of my favorite Metallica songs. My best friend and I were always the most fervent defenders of Load, some of Reload, and even St. Anger, when all of our other buddies shit on it. Yeah, I understand why all those albums got the flack they did, but I guess I was just always able to past what we all wanted Metallica to do and ended up appreciating what they actually ended up doing during those times. Now, just like the Star Wars prequels, they're looked at in a different light and a new admiration, which I love.

Funny that a thrash metal band puts out a better, more 'pure-country' country song than just about any country group that's playing these days. My wife listens to country, and the stuff on the radio doesn't sound anywhere near as country as this song. No 'neon Hee-Haw' or 'trailer-park glam' or 'bubble-gum country' or 'country hip hop' in this the way the stuff on the radio is. You'd think all the Tennessee Techno Country bands or whatever the hell it is that's playing today would be trying to sound like this to get the genre back to what it was, to reclaim that once-great heritage and legacy, but no. They keep grinding out bullshit about trucks and painted on jeans and garbage.

Yup Hank III wrote a song about it. Like to hear it? Here it goes.... "Well we're losing all the outlaws that had to stand their ground and they're being replaced by these kids from a manufactured town And they don't have no idea about sorrow and woe. Cause they're all just too damn busy kissin' ass on Music Row So I'm here to put the "dick" in Dixie and the "cunt" back in country Cause this kind of country I hear nowdays is a bunch of fuckin' shit to me ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' 'Cause the kind of country I hear nowdays is a bunch of fuckin' shit to me

I guess that's how you can tell really good music: it appeals to people who don't usually listen to "that sort of music". And of course, once something is famous again, you get huge crowds, a potential for fame and money, and a large percentage of crud. You might regret mentioning stuff like "neon Hee-Haw" or "bubble gum country", because now I am tempted to look it up. ("country hip hop" however sounds like something I wouldn't want to poke with a stick.) Much adoration to the Conrad Veidt icon.

Real country, any kind of folk music really, was meant to keep people happy in tough times when they had nothing else. The kind of people who listen to pop country, mostly young, southern suburbanites, want the aesthetic without any of the meaning behind it. They want the nice romantic images and the party-boy lifestyle without the hard work and working-class grit that kept it real.

here we can see it again: metallica is just a perfect band, they dont can only write metal songs they also can write songs like that. emotional songs like this or nothing else matters. and THIS is the fucking reason why metallica is so successfull. they can do every music very good and stay themselves! just a great band i love this song!

Load was a point of Metallica where the band members wanted to be different, which I think is fine. I mean, just because these albums aren't just thrash thrash speed Mustaine-wrote-the-solo albums doesn't make them bad at all. Hey, Megadeth did it too with Risk and Super Collider, but I don't think Megadeth is "dead" as some fans say. It's just different, you have to realize that if a band stays thrash metal for 30+ years that they'll still make thrash metal albums.

Anybody who is hating on this song needs to chill out. If he did write this song for his mother than he can do it anyway he pleases. Nobody here has the right to think they can decide how he expresses himself to his own mother. People claiming that this song isn't up to their standards as a fan is actually disrespectful. This album kicks ass just like every other one.
