He definately came out the bigger man in the whole thing. And I think they knew that and still do. They fucked up, but some time has past so who knows now.
.....Jason was a pussy and acted like a child. No Jason still has a drug problem lol, stop saying dumb random shit. Even this idiot who commented didnt make sense. Both of you should just go live together. Hopefully you both think a toaster in the tub is good for your skin and try it
I'm not saying either party couldnt have handled it differently but you're just a troll through and through, you're arguing in your opinion, about things that are FACTS. Your opinion does not over rule facts. So in FACT, you're the one who is babbling senseless bullshit. Now five back into mommies muff and have her make you some hot pockets, your basement central heating is ready for you to be on your computer for another week.
In hindsight I think Jason would still be in the band.. I like Rob but we ALL lost something when he left.. The band, The fans and ultimately Jason. Metalica is the beast that can't be stopped, I mean they are still HUGE I find it hard to believe Jason doesn't ever think what if...
It was always too big to James and lars to give up. Too much gone through. If you really think about how long a day is and how many years they have been together, it's like your left and right nut, literally, that's deep. Lol
That’s not necessarily a good thing considering that they have a lot of shit records. IMO they look like KISS now: 2 ego maniacs holding to a lowering quality sinking ship.
I think watching James' journey over the years has helped me address issues within myself, that held me back from being better. I'd love to give him a hug and just let him know how much he has helped me
99% of musicians would give their left nut to taste the success of Metallica... the question is, would the average person still be able to survive themselves from it almost 40 years later? These guys are the best.
Metallica is an anomaly. To find a group of people who can go through so much together for decades, survive all the ups and downs and still get along with eachother, is incredible. The reason we don't see other Metallicas is because it takes a very specific conditions for such longevity to work. I think one of the reasons is because they always felt like outsiders and found kinship amongst eachother. Metallica really is like a family, and you can't turn your back on family.
@@Deathshuck I 100% agree. The tipping point really was what we all saw in Some Kind of Monster, when all of them hit "mid-life-crisis" and really had to take a hard look at themselves. The fact that they were able to do that and survive as a band, and literally "grow up" and actually finally enjoy their successes in life. We should all be so fortunate.
@@stevennorris7181 And now Rob is in the band bigger than they have ever been. I don't hate Jason tho, I love him to death too, but Rob is a perfect fit for Metallica, and it's obvious that they feel the same and care about him.
My first concert was Metallica. The black album. But I had been a fan for a few years prior so I had learned the other 3 albums and was really excited to see them live. That was the year of the “snake pit” but it didn’t matter to me because I was in the bleed seats , literally the highest seat in the Summit (Houston) and a young black guy with the DK wife beater shirt and combat boots set next to me . And we smoked weed all night together. No opening act just the short 30 minute short movie of the bands life that far and then they played for like 2 hours and my neck hurt for a week after that. Since then I have had my career in chasing bands and seeing shows. But Metallica being the first all those bands had a lot to live up to. Seeing something about in addiction myself I blew it off. But when I got sober and seen it again it was relatable and powerful. I never had a brother like you do in each other. And I guess that’s what I truly was envious of all these years seeing bands , was that brotherly love. So thankful that a band my best friend said “ you gotta hear this band” turned about to be such a cool band as Metallica .
After seeing Some Kind of Monster years ago... James became the coolest guy in rock & roll. To see the human side of an icon was really refreshing. As an old school Metallica fan... I pretty much stopped listening to them after the first 4 albums. Though the movie didn't make me start listening to the stuff that they came up with later... it made me appreciate the people who made the music even more.
All of this is at Jason's expense. And to this day, they have yet to take responsibility for their actions and publically apologize to him. He proved himself to be the bigger man in a lose-lose situation.
Yeh I often thought if they would have just cleaned the slate and sat down properly with Jason we'd still have the man in the band. I mean Rob got welcomed into the band with kindness.. No hazing,no hoops to jump through (yeh also the money) but man.. Me being Jason I'd feel a bit hurt. He gave metallica 150% I still love Tallica but he deserved better.
@@robbythunder6386 this exactly, James could've been the bigger man, but no, his pride and ego got in the way. They could've still had Jason and let him do his project while James was in rehab.
I saw Metallica at the Rose bowl, Pasadena, CA. The hardwired tour, and I think they played better than ever. I saw them in the early days once in the 80's and again in Phoenix AZ. mid 90's, but they were beyond amazing during the hardwired tour. Sober, healthy, and Hetfields vocals sounded even better than 30 years ago . Metallica, true metal gods. Thank you.
I love how jason is saying "all the shit we have been through and we cant get through THIS?" But then he rationalizes a small feud between him and james, by LEAVING THE FOCKING BAND!!! If he would have stuck it out with the same therapist all the other guys thought was "stupid and useless" at first, too, he would have probably realized they need help. I commend phil for being a trooper and using his heart and not his wallet. He seems to actually CARE about his clients.
LOL wtf are yo talking about? That clown there is for the money, they are pathetic in that documentary. The result is one of the shittiest records ever recorded. These people had no respect for anyone but money and it’s been a quality downhill for them ever since, if not before. They’ll never get those first 5 albums soul again and that’s ok, but to me they just are a caricature of what they were.
Jason would probably still be in the band. James would've realized he was in the wrong (exactly as what actually happened) and he would've reconciled with jason. Simple fix. Jason left before james ever got the wake up call from the therapist plus his stint in rehab. Oh well
@@jorgecobospaz6936 james was booted out of the house by his wife after jason had already left. That was the wake up call. That's why james leaves the st anger recordings and goes to rehab
Kirk has become a sentimental soul in his older age... I think it comes from happiness and a life of fulfillment. I've always been a supporter of Kirk since the mid 80's. He's taken alot of shit (fuck you, Mustaine 🖕🏼) from both the media and fanbase, yet he's hung in there and been positive all these years.🤘
Well I'm sure with today's language and how that they basically will just throw in any wild and crazy f*"!? Up word in the English dictionary these days bro! You just might find a word as fu!*"? Up as the word squilions!!! Lol
*_"The presence of the cameras, I think...made us realize that we could not bullshit each other."_* -LARS ULRICH $40,000 per month for therapist Phil Towle to be at the beck-and-call of three people 24 hours a day on a running clock equates to only $55.55 per hour. For being a pivotal part in saving the biggest heavy metal band of all time, I'd say he was underpaid. Thank you Phil and thank you Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky for being the watchdog for the band to keep it honest and real. You all saved them. And an honorable mention to Bob Rock for sticking around during the worst.
Imagine if Jason had gone through this time with the band. I get the feeling that having the freedom and openness that Rob has, he would just be on the next level. That said, Metallica has had three world class bass players. Cliff, Jason and Rob all deserve to go down in history.
Shit,This movie changed my life!!Dude- i feel like im in the band!!😂🤦Lol after all?Metallica has been playen in my head since '86!!!🤷🤣Ide jus like to take this moment to say'🤝Thanks- Guys for Serenating my demented and twisted walk thru LIFE!!🙋🤘🇺🇸😊
When your ego gets out of control, some kind of monster happens. That' s the fuck'n key thing. Still nowadays I watch at it and get emotional, overall by perceiving the negativity that envolved their relationships at that time. I can't imagine the future of metal without you. God bless you forever, Metallica
I think james carried a deep regret for being the cause of jason to leave, with his "no side projects" thing. Completely hypocritical, but on the other hand egos fly in that industry, and some people become disconnected and make mistakes, or say things they dont really mean but their mind wont let them do what their conscience wants to do. It's a hell of a fight inside our heads.
They were 3 millimetres away from exploding and breaking up during that period...jason had the luck of playing with the angriest metallica, but the bad luck of experiencing the worst out of the members (maybe kirk not that much but you get my point)
So the night before his audition, Lars takes Rob out to drink to see what he’s made of. Loans him a shirt etc.... So Lars basically engineered the whole Rob Trujillo joining Metallica. He already knew who their guy was going to be. The other bass players were just a formality.
I guess i was caught up in the black harder tougher image of Metallica. I knew they had a softer side but theses guys are really feminine..not just soft? I respect them being truy emotional and honest because i need that too!! 🤘😎
There was great stuff at the end of this video, but it's promotion. Metallica is one greatest rock/metal groups in history, but "Some Kind of Monster" was them recording the album and arguing with each other. I think their crisis was genuine, but they didn't share anything.
Hats off to Metallica, for maturing the way they did, after Jason left. They treated him horribly...recognized it...then moved forward, and resolved to not make the same mistake with Rob. And Rob...is a great bass player...but he is also, a super great guy. Few bands would hire a relatively unknown, (yes...I know he was in Suicidal Tendencies, and that there was a crowd who followed and already knew of Rob, but getting into Metallica, put Rob into a whole nother level), bass player, and right away, by offering him a $1million sign on bonus, made him feel an established member of the band. Many other bands just hire a session musician to fill any voids left by an original member. The Rolling Stones did it when Bill Wyman left. And Metallica could have done the same thing. But chose, (and wisely so), to immediately make Rob feel as a valid member of the group. That sentiment, creats cohesion...and harmony...that simply cannot be paid for. Metallica...has matured with time. As one should......
As I've re-watched S-K-O-M I'm surprised James never choked out Lars... Specially when Lars got all up in his face.. I assume because James was sober at the point 😁
@stargazer _099 that's cool... I don't know any of them guys personally but I always thought highly of James, Cliff, Kirk, Lars & Jason... My statement is generally speaking about how tense things seemed to be during the process of Some Kind Of Monster... I think its grate things never got physical.. But the tension between Lars and James appeared to be hella thick!
I always thought SKOM was inappropriate even though you can understand in detail how the 'tallica boys are. I understand that it can be "Some Kind of Catharsis" for James, but also it's kind of uncomfortable to me the exposition of those feelings and secrets at the time they needed "Some Kind of Popularity" to promote their at that time "upcoming album". I think, Lars as usual, saw just another way to make of Metallica something trendy, and he had no problem to expose personal feelings and fed his ego making a movie of that. At the end of the day, I'll always respect Jason, he cared about Metallica as his musical project, whereas the other guys see Metallica as another business.
Jason is alive of not never mind but Rob,Lars, kirkand James enjoy the music and a lot of number one in the world they around the world.,. Fuckin Jason where the fuck are you
Its like Santa Clause or Superman ..... we dont wanna know its just clark Kent, or someone with a pillow & a santa suit on .... . What he said about Making good heavy music with positive energy ..... You can only make that transition once your big enough & rich enough & can afford to lose thousands upon thousands of fans. I wouldnt adviuce doing a movie like this Adter the release of Master of Puppets. , it wouldnt be "safe" enough financially So yeh after your really rich you can get yourself happy & make some music but it probably wont have that dark agression millions of people want to feed on, to get theire agressions out.
