@@jpserrano1605: I forget which interview it was, but Lars said he doesn't like the >ping< of the ride cymbal anymore. It's as if his hearing changed as he got older. Until I watched someone review every single Metallica song, I didn't realize how much he used it on Kill and Ride.
All the negativity going on,( oh my)and Ace your right it was awesome of him to share the whole show. I was there and obviously hearing live @ the show is diff from here..It was a KICK ASS performance!!
lars is actually playing well. you just cant hear any of it on the live feed. look up the bootleg vids uploaded by the people that actually went. You can hear the double bass and everything. As for het, hes doing alright in this performance but his other performances were better (ex. Fight fire with fire). Metallica is far from over, my friend
i was there too and i actually thought the mixing wasn't that great either. I went Sunday night and i think Rob's speakers were actually too loud. but still kickass nonetheless
Hey DarkJpower14, did you know that uhmm any cymbal can be played like a ride for a crazy effect and is used by many drummers to intensify certain parts of a song :)
I really wouldn't blame whoever mics his drums. Clearly Lars has a say in it, like he has with all Metallica matters, so he probably chose for it to be so damn quiet.
I agree. He randomly brought it back during Saint Anger and their recent cover of When a Blind Man Cries by Deep purple, but he never made it permanent, That's why you won't hear many songs before Master being played correctly, he doesn't even have the right cymbals. he just uses his China (Which sounds awful to me)
this is the thing why do i love metallicas lives very much. Every show is like a lottery, you dont know who and where would fuck up the notes. For professionals they play absolutely awful, James keeps failing creeping death's riff every two shows, Lars is a god of a bad drumming, Kirk's solos are 60% improvisation. The only guy who ruins everything is Rob : ) but this thing makes their lives look and sound fantastic, it became a part of the family, some kind of a musical charisma. Their performances should be used for educational purposes in music schools for beginner guitar and drum players.
On one hand you have Kirk's overuse of the wawa pedal, on the other you have a band who plays their own instruments. I'll take, plays their own instruments.
nothing else matters? are you kidding me? don't get me wrong, that's a really nice song, but that's one of the less representative of metallica style, also that's the kind of song they always play. In my case I'm looking forward for songs like The Call Of Ktulu or Escape, those kind of songs they rarely play ;)

Guuyyyss in songs like this, Ride is DEFFO NOT essential! China is undoubtedly the heavier sounding cymbal! Bleeding me needs a ride! Not overdriven songs!
Dude, stop being a fanboy. We all know that Lars is just doing this because he is lazy. As a drummer i know that it is MUCH easier to play double bass while your right arm is open. And his china sounds like shit at the same time.
