I hope that Metamoris goes back to the bigger live crowds. It's neat to see all the world class black belts in attendance, and it really does make it exciting for the viewers (and probably the fighters!) to hear a knowledgeable crowd responding to the action on the mat. PS: It's crazy that the Boogeyman survived that arm bar.
Two great athletes. Dean is such a strong guy and his defence is super. Xande is probably my favourite fighter ever though and I absolutely love watching his game. Many thanks for posting this. :-)
Dean Lister / Lister Dean you are one of the best, OUsss! You are an amazing BJJ champion and an inspiration to us all. Those of you who say that Ribeiro was dominating Dean don't know Dean's style. He trains in a weak position to build up his escapes and strength in those positions. This is why he will give a opponent the dominant position many times, so that he can work his escapes and submissions from there. He did this with Ribeiro the whole match. Dean is a thinker, a very smart tactician. Ribeiro is also very good and definitely gave Dean a challenge. Neither one dominated, but Ribeiro's arm bar attempt was very well done. But so was Dean's escape. Two amazing BJJ champions who gave everyone a master class in BJJ at the highest level.
Why would anyone deliberately put themselves in a weaker position in an actual match? People do that during training and sparring, not an actual competition.
ileana adamez that wasn't my day :( in the future, i will reveal what has been going on lately, maybe a reason for my terrible performance... Barnett was the better man that day, my hat is off to him
I really loved this display of No Gi skill by both fighters! In my opinion, when you take away all those handholds and grips afforded by the gi, you really get to see the technical strength of the fighters in the best way.
Apples and oranges, apples and oranges. Some people are great with and some are great without, but both match styles present a unique challenge. No Gi doesn't involve as much grip strength, and Gi doesn't involve quite as much hip pressure and the submission defenses are a little less hard (what with gripping the Gi). Also you don't have to worry about reversals nearly as much in No Gi matches and in Gi matches it is much harder to pass guard.
Lukecash12 The key words here were "in my opinion" :p my opinion is based on my preference for faster paced matches, and the gi (mostly the plethora of grips it affords both fighters) seems to me to slow the pace. I appreciate the techniques in all forms of grappling, but IN MY OPINION, No Gi is better.
This match was awesome, although it got frustrating watching Xande refusing to initiate any kind of move that would put the fight to the ground. Definitely a new fan in Dean, such a humble guy off the mat too.
Lister Dean I'm glad you responded! I had no idea you had your own channel! I'm gonna check it out. I've known Xande for 6 years now and have to admit I was routing for him, but you guys had a fantastic match! Respect!!
helio is clearly a hater. I'm glad you put him in his place in a civil way. He's obviously trolling looking for an argument dean.hope to see u back in Texas with Dave Dunn. I'm proud to have trained attended as many seminars as I have of yours, and proud to be ranked under u brother.
would like to see Dean fight after he finally was tapped by Barnett. Now that he's not worried about his lame stint without being submitted in comp, maybe he'll actually fight someone, instead of trying to survive.
You think Dean was just surviving? Did you watch the whole fight or just the first part? Towards the end Dean was pushing all the action and attacking and xande was avoiding
"The Boogie Man has no specific appearance, and conceptions about it can vary drastically from household to household within the same community; in many cases, it has no set appearance in the mind of an adult or child, but is simply a non-specific embodiment of terror. In some cases, the bogeyman is a nickname for the Devil." You can't tap The Devil, Xande.
If I stayed on my back Xande would've broke my arm, by being on my side facing away, it gave me enough space and time to escape. Combination of experience and luck. My hat is off to Xande to get me in that submission ;)
definetly that was an amazing match ever ! when I'm rolling and my partner get me in an ambar position always try to escape with the same way but always ending taping jajaja wish you the best and hope watch you compete soon , bless !
Not a great match. As a fan it was fun to watch but the truth is, one guy was trying to put on a show and the other was probably paying more mind to his reputation. Pretending it's amazing doesn't help. All the biased commentary just distorts the action. I love Jiu Jitsu too but why not be objective and just let it be a sport sometimes?
Christopher, I appreciate criticism always (hopefully positive hehe) however since I pulled guard about 11 times and took all the chances, are you referring to Xande paying more mind to his reputation by seeking dominant positions or are you referring to me for taking the most chances and pulling guard against my opponent who has one of the greatest guard pass in history?
deanlister Trying to be positive. (thumbs up) I'm excited to see high level matches like these. I'm hoping it will catch on with the ladies. Started off strong but for me the match took a turn when it looked like Xande had no intention of pursuing a take down. Nothing wrong with sticking to a game plan. He probably did the right thing but it felt like too much. You trying to make up for it by taking on risk took the fun out of it. It was still pretty cool though.
