From the trailer, I’m pretty sure these aren’t not-personas, but may more be like the demon forms of Digital Devil Saga. More a transformation than a stand.
I’m extremely interested in the “turn back the clock” prompt at the bottom left at 3:05. I don’t remember there being something like that in either SMT or Persona.
First thing that came to mind was Catherine where you can undo a turn... My god, this game is just an amalgamation of all of the projects that Hashino has lead.
I had the same impression with the press turn thingies, but someone responded telling me about the screenshot of the skill list and the fact the skills are marked with a certain amount of those press turn-like icons, and now I'm more inclined to believe it's more like a consumable 'à la' honkai star rail.
The Synthesis command is one of the things im really interested in for this game, its separate from the archetype command which is just that characters spells but synthesis use multiple party members and press turns to use spells like digital devil sagas combo system. The jp trailer is actually a little different in one part, when they open the synthesis menu they actually move to a different spell and Strohl steps back and hulkenberg and heismay take his place behind the MC using seeker. Its a really interesting system i want to see more of.
Archetypes seem to be pretty unique for Atlus as they clearly have job names and the protagonist changes archetype/job throughout the trailer from Seeker to Soul Hacker. Moreover they seem to have 20 ranks from 1 to 20. To me it's a lot closer to a Bravely Default (or many many FF games) job system rather than Personas which is super exciting to me as I think that kind of gameplay is a lot more fun in terms of combat and customization (Persona 3 to 5 are annoying for having the main protag being super overpowered compared to everyone else).
@@corruptedteka Soul Hacker is a pretty important term in the megaten "universe" there's two games around that concept (which changes a bit tbh). I mean sure, xenoblade does a similar system but they didn't invent anything really in terms of class system.
The persona-likes are a little disappointing, but the idea I’m getting from them is starting to warm up to me watching this video At around 7:54 Hulkenberg (the red hair elf) has the designation “Knight” but at 8:04 she has “Paladin” instead. With the persona-likes being called “Archetypes”, I think that the job names Seeker, Knight, Fighter etc. are actually the specific names for these Archetypes. It could be that these Archetypes fill the role more of a job/class system than actual personas. Idk I just find it really funny that these Archetypes are well.. actual fantasy rpg archetypes
@@Macca In another part of the trailer, you can see that 3 of the party members "mastered" their archetypes, which would imply that these are more akin to traditional classes as well! Maybe you level them up, and when you master it you can move on to another one or upgrade it?
And there's just straight up soul hacker as an archetype The synthesis system is interesting to me, it reminds me of the combo spell system from digital devil saga using multiple party members and press turns to use spells
For years I thought Re Fantasy was going to be Playstation exclusive so I wasn’t sitting around waiting for it, so this was a pleasant surprise coming to Xbox. I think the frame dips were such an Atlus move. I feel like this is an old game that’s been done for a while but Atlus just sat on it until all the Persona ports were done and didn’t put ANY more resources into optimizing it for consoles.
I doubt it’s gonna be an Xbox exclusive. If anything it’s probably the same thing that happened when the persona 3,4, and 5 ports were revealed. They were first revealed by Xbox and confirmed for Xbox systems. Then a few days later the ports were revealed to be on PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. So fingers cross that this is the same situation for Metaphor:ReFantazio.
Why would they have finished it and left jt unoptimised to release sometime next year? The frame drops are clearly a sign that its still in development. Honestly I think that the game is probably nearly done in terms of everything and most of the next year will be optimisation
I love persona, I love mainline SMT. This game looks great and I'm looking forward to getting my grubby hands on it as well as the remake of P3. The P5 tactics game aint for me but I'm sure someone's happy about its existence.
I'll play devil's advocate: it's nice the trailer includes actual gameplay footage, framerate issues and all, rather than being entirely cinematics. Hopefully the issues get smoothed out in the next year (or more) of development though!
All i wish and hope is that they announce a version for either the PlayStation and/or Nintendo Switch. Otherwise there's no way in hell am I going to play the game. I got no Xbox other than my old 360 and my pc is shit, couldn't even run p4g. Spent money for nothing.
This syntesis or archetype idk, it reminds me of the atma avatars of digital devil saga, bc you can see the protagonist turning into it in the trailer idk
theres also apparantly a class system, you can see in different screen shots where the MC is the "seeker" class and later in the screenshot of the dragon fight you can see he has the "soul hacker" class. The same goes for the rest of the party indicating there may be either a class evolution system or possibly even a final fantasy style job system??
I do wonder what happened to that redhead chick that was in the first artwork they released for Re Fantasy though. Can't wait to see more of this game.
It seems the archetypes are the equivalent to the job system in traditional FF games. So you can customize the party based on those archetypes. It seems they are going with something more jrpg traditional, while bringing he social aspect that persona has, and the original press turn system that SMT has. I'm personally very interested, and hope there will be a demo to test out, to see how it feels.
Regarding the UI style, I think FF10 should get a shout out for a similar vibrant color palette and strong brush strokes, although not as elaborate as Metaphor.
Wait... Marth... Remember way back when Nintendo and Atlus agreed to collaborate on an SMT/Fire emblem crossover? One wonders if the protagonist's design is a holdover from those days? It could be a coincidence, or they could both be drawing inspiration from a common ancestor
I think it's more like transformations. SMT have demons, Persona have "not demons" I mean most of the personas are demons From SMT. And Metaphor i think it's more like transformations perhaps the character transform into the "not demon" "not Persona" monster. It would make sense because there is a Persona original anime that does that where the MC transforms into the Persona
Then go play Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, or the plethora of generic fantasy RPGs where that already exists. Atlus has their own unique systems and those are what the majority of their dedicated fans are attracted to. Why do you want them to change up their style just for the sake of it?
For those who are curious, the latest usage of magnetite was the in name only system in Dx2. Basically, there were two major restrictions to prevent players from abusing the fusion to go full ftp consequence free. The first is that demons obtained from the gacha cannot be fused in the cathedral of shadows. The second is that fusions in the cathedral of shadows require magnetite to be fused. I really wasn't a fan of this mechanic when I played Dx2, it only serves to not so subtly tell you that the gacha is more cost efficient while making the cathedral borderline useless.
The redhead looks like the girl from Re Fantasy's earliest promo art. To be honest, when I saw her design used for Yoshisawa from P5R, I wondered if this concept had been abandoned?
@@megabyte01 It's similar in the sense of "redhead blue eye elf" but she has a much different outfit and, most interesting to me, very classic Japanese elf ears. Very long and sharp and with the little tuft of hair/fur on the end. Along with some other classic anime callbacks like riding the sword ala Daicon bunnygirl, they definitely did a neat take on fantasy that isn't pure Tolkien, which is great to see.
Or the one piece jokes aside i think that the story revolves around you being a hero in a light novel or you're a light novel writer that has writers block and gets transported to a fantasy world but has the ability to travel back to our world in a way kinda similar to a recent anime called i got cheat skills in another world and became overpowered in the real(?) one
For some reason, the look of this game makes me wonder if Koei is a support studio or if their Warriors engine is being used. Something about the way the characters look and the aliasing around the edges looks so similar to Fire Emblem Three Houses and all the recent Warriors games. Maybe it's already been announced they're involved and I just missed it.
The one thing I have to say is just that I wish for their new project that isn't Megaten they were more willing to actually step away from Megaten. As it stands it looks like we're literally just getting a new Megaten subseries in everything but name. Is that a huge issue though? Not really, it's not like that'll hold the game back in any way shape or form.
Yea i like how theyre exploring new kinds of games outside of persona. Even though its implied Catherine is in the same world as persona , its still its own game in the end as a separate genre , and an interesting one too
Xbox exclusive Persona? Will buying the physical of this. Either its going to be amazing and become a staple to the JRPG world or its going to be a good entry in JRPGs but do horribly in sales.
10:48 😂😂 nah man look it again i dont think it just another persona again there mp skill there mag skill maybe skill you can used only after transforming or in human state
Everyone says they don't like all the extra bull that Atlus adds in re-releases and how they'd rather have the actual original experience until Atlus actually does that now it'd all *no we gotta our Maries and Alexes pleeeeaassee* No thanks I'll pass on undermining major character deaths, inferior gameplay with character flandarization in Answer, and being able to damn near romance a literal child thanks I prefer P3 without that baggage.
To be fair, I think that P5T could be VERY neat and Atlus has shown talent for tactical RPGs, but I agree that this game looks a lot more hype and fun than P5T. Right now I'd rank them in order of Monark > P5T >>>>>> P3R, especially if P3 remains "incomplete".
This is the first time I've heard of this game, but it looks SO damn cool! Just sucks that I won't be able to play it myself since my computer is garbage and would spontaneously combust if I were to try to play it on that and I dont own an Xbox (And even if it did release elsewhere, lets be honest, this was never gonna release on Switch cause it would *not* be able to run this. Lmao). I still find it weird that it *isn't* releasing on PS tho. For a JRPG, its kinda weird that its effectively an Xbox exclusive (In terms of consoles).
I'm getting really tired of SMTards calling this another Persona game, because to me it looks much more like Fire Emblem with Bravely Default + DDS battle mechanics. Just because it has social simulator elements doesn't make it another Persona. If social sims aren't your cup of tea then that's fine, but stop repeating the narrative that it's a "medieval Persona" when all we've seen thus far is the menu UI. However, based on the class system and just the overall presentation I can already tell that this game will likely be more gameplay-heavy than dialogue-heavy, which already separates it from Persona. I expect that it'll be comparable to Final Fantasy in terms of the balance between gameplay and plot/dialogue.
I love me some Persona, and as cool as Metaphor looks I’m actually really disappointed by all the similarities to Persona. I wanted something really different, we still have P6 coming sometime in the near future.
