the T in Tao is meant to be pronounced softly. In English, this would sound more like Dao rather than Tao.

Thought provoking as always... The Tao brings to mind some gnostic ideas and shares principles with the Jungian self. Some other quotes that seem to be touching on something similar: Gospel of Thomas: 113, “the kingdom of the father is spread out over the earth, but men do not see it” “the nature of god is a circle whose center is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere.” - Voltaire

Correct me if I’m wrong, since I’ve only read parts of Zarathustra: But, didn’t Niche describe typical humanity as “dull animals” and that they’ve “lost something (I.e. religion)” therefore have lost something fundamental to our ancestors even though it isn’t great in and of itself anyway [talking about this in a negative light]? If this is true, I would think that a Daoist standpoint might not see these things in a negative light considering that humanity is still following The Way and what is natural under our circumstances? I also have no idea if that’s the consensus on the meaning of Zarathustra or even the keystone of Niche’s philosophy.

The Tao is something similar to or synonymous with the Logos. The fundamental principle. It is unfortunate that western philosophy has obscured the true idea of the Logos and identified it with logic. In fact in Chinese bibles Logos (see John 1) is translated as Tao.

The tao seems to be similar to the monad of neoplayonism. It is logically prior to being, because it is the cause of being. Therefore it can't participate in being because it woulf be contingent on that which causes being. And because it is prior to being, it is ineffable.

It's Dao and it's not one of those descriptions, it's all of them. This is the problem with rhetoricians insisting on describing spiritual matters...

Platonic ideas do not function like that and Taoism has no upper hand over Platonism.

Everyone was separated by continents, the ancient trade routes probably connected continental philosophies to some degree, but everyone separately independently arrived at their own interpretation of the metaphysical. You know, unless there were aliens zipping around trying to bridge the gaps before that.
