Don’t forget Rudy was still pumping the Metazoo bundled boxes with his family hand drawn artwork promo. Many LGS got the shaft when they didn’t get the products early while a few stores got it and sold at decent profits. Did the owner Mike Waddell pay the IP for using Kuromi with the last set ? TCG had a fire sale on Metazoo Kuromi set when it wasn’t selling very well at 50% discount. One of the worst TCG managed company in history.

Mark i think that the reactions are just proof of the old saying: it is easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.

I would absolutely buy Metazoo boxes at $2 each. That's cheaper than firewood in the winter.

As a LGS owner, metazoo felt like one of the worst games possible to buy into. Games with basically 0 organic growth and a bunch of internet goons hyping it up is a massive red flag.

"Whale Wars" -- ok, that had me rolling. Imagine such a thing in the Magic world -- the security and insurance expenses would be insane.

The money was sent to Rudy Chan. He's got 10 more promos in the works. Think about it. Rudy celebrated 6.9 years of his channel (mostly magic videos) with metazoo mystery boxes. lol.

Where's the money? Im going to guess in some large suitcases, the walls of the house and in some offshore numbered accounts.

As someone who watched 99.9% of tcg's die over the last 30 years and someone who bought Rage boxes from EBgames for $6, if I had ANY Metazoo right now then I'd be undercutting everyone fast. You could have bought Kickstarter boxes directly from Metazoo, on their site for $78 a box. You could have done that all the way up until the day after the first Rudy video and 3 weeks later you could have sold those boxes for $2k easily. 6 months later, 3k and on and on over the following 6 months. Mike showed us the hundreds and hundreds of boxes he still had on stream that he said would be kept for prizes in the future. I would bet anything he dumped them fast haha I'm a huge Sorcery fan but I'm realistic. I can't wait to see your take on it!

It feels like aggressive monetization compromises the intent of what these games were meant to be; I was bummed out when this happened to videogames but it seems like more and more companies want to collect rent instead of providing me a memorable play experience. I wonder what TCG's will get a boost from metazoo's collapse? Pokemon seems like an easy choice, but there is going to be a certain amount of collectors that abandon the TCG world after a betrayal of this scale.

All the talk about how money was the selling point of MetaZoo reminds me of the Battle Spirits reboot where even the tutorial video said you'll make money from it. Not a single local store in my entire country wanted to touch Battle Spirits with a 50meter pole btw, just a small fun fact. And another fun fact according to the local owners Bandai very aggresively tried to shove down Battle Spirits down them just because they carried other Bandai TCGs. Yeah that doesn't sound like organically growing a community.

It does not matter that you missed one piece, they reprinting everything :) Rudy is the same with MTG on one hand Rudy is the champion of the poor LGS-es that get Amazoned but on the other hand he selling thousands of boxes a week to ballers under the LGS prices who dont need to buy at an LGS anymore :)

The Dungeons And Joypads YT channel had an eye-opening perspective about MetaZoo from a UK-based LGS perspective. That was a great, but depressing video. Sounds like Grand Archive has the right attitude to go far👍

I largely agree with the Metazoo comments; but the story about the LGS in the 90’s is concerning. Instead of buying an Unl. Lotus for $500 instead of buying Pokemon. Thats such a shortsighted view to take. If you just bought 125 Base Set Unlimited packs at $4 each you could sell them at $300 a piece today earning $37,500. That is $17,500 more than the cheapest Unl. Lotus on TCG at the time of writing this.

I hope you can keep true to the promise. I'm done with that game, no need to discuss it any further as to how, why and such it ended up where it did. After all, it cost a lot of LGS a lot of money and that harmed much more than just the few players and collectors.

.... Playmats with stitched edging with print on demand is a mere five bucks. Tcgs need to serve all the legs of the tripod. Metazoo served 1 (collectors). Not a way to sustain a business. Another reason I believe GA will collapse eventually. Stagnated growth it seems. Serving collectors and org play the most. Anyone that wants to play a game like this casually is more likely to just play FaB or One Piece or even Magic. Also their meta so far has been more stale than even og FaB.

Those people who make games do not understand $100+ booster boxes is not a game anymore, thats a days work for a starbucks barista lol! a game needs players! a lot of players look at WOTC when they started $1,95 once you have millions of players you can root them out like WOTC by making new boxes that are more expensive than older ones.

I have many thoughts about all of this. However, the way you started yesterday's video could be seen as heartless and cold, and when people have strong feelings toward something and someone comes along with little to no empathy and $#!+$ on it. People who are emotionally and financially tied to that will rally back hard. That's just psychology/ human nature

Who will tank first... Sorcery or Grand Archive?

Perfect tcg ideas for me is all cards are playable at an uncommon level and rare/sr/ etc.... are full art, foils, etc... the cool cards that are super playable would be valuable in their rare form. The players can play decks by busting a few boxes and the collectors and money bag players have chase cards.

As a 11yr old kid i saw an alpha black lotus in a display case with a sticker tag of $300. I knew it was alpha because the magazine said those were worth $300. Had no more than $50 in my pocket. Prolly wouldnt have bought the card if i had the money, beause what 11yr kid would spend that kind of money. I was stupid
